I can't remember the last time I saw a new game come out with a cool cover. It's all front and center space mahreen or whoever the fuck the protagonist is.

I can't imagine that you're forced to put much effort into cover art these days.
It's not like kids are going to blockbuster and picking out a random game. And kids don't go to the store and pick something random to buy (do they?). Video games are so popular that I feel like they would know about the game from online somewhere before they see the box art.

No you're totally right, the Internet makes it very easy to pick something out. Even when I was younger in the early 00's I would buy games soley on the cover. I bought Freedom Fighters and Chibi Robo like that and both ended up being GOAT

There's some. You could say GTAV if only for keeping it's cover theme consistent with every title.
