It has been said that /v/ is the worst forum for videogames except all the others that I have tried.
It's a shithole, but at least it's not any of the other shitholes.
I love anonymous posting and having threads that can last 2-48 hours. That's the only way to do it in my opinion.
/v/ is funny and insightful, but so contrarian and full of shit at times, it's really hard to take /v'/'s recommendations seriously. Also the ignorance of Console players against PC players, makes this place even less credible.
Also, 90% of the time the PC Fags are right, and as an Xbox one owner and a PC owner, Microsoft cucked the fuck out of me, I should have stayed Ps4+Wii+PC forever.
It's shit, but not necessarily any more or less shit than most other sites. It's just shit for different reasons.
I think it's the best place to talk about video games. I know it has its fair share of problems, but I feel like the anonymity is perfect for discussion and avoiding circlejerks and drama.
Even though casuals now permeate it, /v/ is sadly the best option available.

As someone who has been on Neogaf for nearly a decade and was recently perma-banned. I will tell you that Neogaf really does have a hivemind or set way you must think and if you go against the grain the chance of getting banned (temp or perm) is pretty fucking high. I will say though that there are great small communities in there, where the cancer mainly stays to those main topics. I've talked to a lot of current and ex-members who agree that there are heavy issues with the mods and their egos and the way things are conducted if you disagree, especially when it comes to things such as, for example, "Link should be a girl." In most of those threads it's honestly bait unless you are a super PC/SJW - which many proudly identify there as.
Also with everyone posting those stupid PS4 drones and shit, you do realize this happens ever new console cycle where the console that is owned by a large majority (last gen was Xbox 360 for the large majority) you would think they were paid by Microsoft to post.
And with any gaming forum there are idiots that post stupid shit, didn't mean there were normal people who didn't want anything to with that shit.

You can get honest discussion and real legitimate critical opinions on a variety of topics here.
The problem? That good discussion and information happens once every thousand days. Mainly because the users here have this weird obsession with trying to be ironic and funny at all times, even if no one pays attention to the "joke". At times it feels more like an "amateur standups" board than a video game board. Memes and "witty" one-liners ruin any chance of having legitimate conversation.
And I don't mean the usual "you're fucking retarded" reply, which usually stems from rage at someone. I mean actual tryhards wanting to be funny on the internet to a bunch of anonymous strangers.
