I'm actually playing through Joker 2 right now. First DQ Monsters game, having a blast.
Not sure I like how monster synthesis seems to have no rhyme or reason for what two monsters turn into though, unless I'm missing something.

That's something that irked me as well.
Joker 2 is my single most favorite monster raising game, but synthesis really does feel like it doesn't make much sense.
