If you've ever played this game or even watched a 100% LP of it you'll know exactly why. I even went back years later and 100%'d Banjo-Kazooie. Mostly without a guide, but I gave up on the 4 hidden notes in Rusty Bucket Bay and was so sick of its instakill gimmick that I just went "fuck it" on Click Clock Wood. DK64 though, that shit can fuck right off. Even watching someone play through that shit is excruciating.
Even then, I bugged my game and got a banana with Tiny that I wasn't supposed to, so now I'm stuck with 6/5 bananas on her and 4/5 on someone else. I think it was one of the hub world areas, I helicoptered and just barely nicked a banana I wasn't supposed to.

I can't stress it enough, DK64 is like if you took a collectathon and made it self-parody.
Like what, just as far as basic shit alone goes you have like 100 bananas, 20 coins, 5 medals per level per Kong, then like 5 blueprints per Kong scattered throughout the game, then you have 201 (or was it 101?) golden bananas throughout the game, then you have those fairies that you have to photograph for the "cheats" menu, half of which were either useless or just more shit you had to beat to 100%. Plus you have to get all the upgrades which all boil down to jump in barrel -> go to location in special form or crouch on pad -> go to location in special form. Plus you have to beat that gauntlet of minigames with certain scores and times, and then you gotta beat the two arcade games, Donkey Kong and Jetpac with the same stuff, then you have the marlin and rhino challenges in the "cheats" menu, and I think there were even special coin collectibles just to GET the 2 classic arcade games. I think I might be forgetting some shit. The only thing that stops that from being like 20 times stupider than Super Mario Sunshine's blue coin shit was that at least everything in DK64 had a checklist in-game. I couldn't make this shit up, but I think it finally made people realize why collectathons were a load of shit.
