JPN release had a bitchin' soundtrack for one... was always a pleasure to time-travel through each stage and experience the different palettes and layouts.
Time-attack mode was well done, keeping record of each stage's fastest clear time and showing a sum "Game" clear to boot.
I think it's the paragon Sonic game, though 1/2/3&K all have plenty to like about them as well.
Nothing aside from maybe the soundtrack. It doesn't hold a candle to the actual Genesis games.

I'm beginning to like it more than the genesis games to be honest. More variety in playthroughs unlike the otherwise solid Sonic 2, and I'll take Wacky Workbench over most of the back half of Sonic 3 and Knuckles.

Art direction, soundtracks, time travel, comfiness, replay value, Metal Sonic, animated movies, SONIC BOOM SONIC BOOM, TOOT TOOT SONIC WARRIOR, IN THE AIR
The art style/visual look of the levels (which should've became the main art style moving forward)
The music for both soundtracks.
The unique bosses (even though they were really easy)
The time travel concept was really fucking cool.
It introduced the best Sonic character.

It's such complete and absolute garbage, worse than 06 and definitively worse than every contemporary platformer.

I only played with the JP soundtrack. If its some sort of reference to that, then I can't say I know what you are talking about.

But what did you like about it?
It's got my favorite visual aesthetic (Everything is so vibrant and colorful and crisp), not one but two fantastic soundtracks (Their both top tier, not sure why one or the other ever gets hate) and it's got my favorite design for Sonic. Seriously, not sure why they didn't stick with this. Managed to make him look both cute and snarkyI think it'd mesh well with the Boom styled Sonic. Keep the proportions and style of CD Sonic, but give him the bandages and a red Strider scarf

Some of that background talk reminds me of mid-90s Funimation DBZ dubs. I think Funimation actually was involved in the game in some way.

It's not about how one is good and the other is shit, its about which one is better.
Think of it like Protoype and Infamous. They were both pretty ok games, but if could only play one, which one is more worth your time.
