Because obsidian made the first few hours of their RPG disgustingly linear. And if you're playing on Hardcore mode it becomes evident it was an afterthought, because the enemies down the road use weapons that cripple you, and there isn't a single fucking doctor in the entire southern half of the mojave.

it's not necessarily speed running, you should try to explore other options if you're doing multiple playthroughs. for example, if you have Boone as a follower when you first enter Nipton he will kill Vulpes and that gets you one step closer to unlocking his quest.

Meaning once you leave Goodsprings, you have to go through primm, that burning town, all the way to novac until you finally find someone to patch you up. There's some hydra, sure, but considering the enemies on the starting stretch ALL USE DYNAMITE, it's really poorly balanced. Once you' arrive in novac you never have limb issues again, but the mandatory first few hours it's pretty much your biggest concern by a lot because of some questionable design choices.

Unless you skip Primm or playing on casual or savescumming, it's almost guaranteed to happen to you because the enemies use dynamite. And this is the beginning of the game, I'm sure the autistic motherfuckers still playing New Vegas after all these years may have an easier time, but it's still a terrible way to balance the starting stretch of road that you're basically required by the main quest to travel.

i agree that there should be a doctor who sells medical supplies at the Outpost. but still, the powder gangers don't attack you if you have a neutral reputation with them. you don't have to do the goodsprings quest right off the bat, you can cut back through scorpion gulch later. and even if you do the quest, you can simply walk offroad so they don't detect you. once you get past Primm there are no more powder gangers.

One in Novac, and the game intends for you to go to Goodsprings Ptimm Mojave Outpost to Novac through to Boulder City and Vegas before you explore. You're supposed to be hot on the trail of your attmepted killers until Vegas. Why do you think the credit check is so only 2000 caps something dirt cheap to most players who explore early. Freeside is another hub to complete before Vegas. You're supposed to go through that before most of everything else.

Exactly, and if you decide to go through Primm, chances are you have to go through the Mojave outpost, Nipton, and all the way up to Novac crippled, because they didn't think to put a doctor outside primm or in the mojave outpost despite intending you to start the game facing enemies that easily cripple you.
