Shit is constantly breaking down, everything is done manually. You have to pick the right ppe for the job or else you die. Ctulhu, demons, shadow creatures and other monsters are on the plant. You can play Fallout games to get this feeling if your disciplined enough to not just use the most OP equipment you can find and just a double barrel and a wrench with leather armour, but the real appeal of the movies is the cars and no game really pulls it off, theyre either pit fighters or the car is just a mode of transit, the vehicles should be characters themselves.

You want us to accept that some games would have been better as movies? Sure. In return, you should accept that there are things movies cannot do. A movie can show you characters doing things they feel bad about, but it can't make you feel responsible for those actions. A game can. I think that makes it better suited to conveying the horror a soldier might experience in war, because in addition to shock and fear, it can induce guilt as well.

Honestly, the subject matter isn't nearly as important as the scale of the thing. I'd like to see more games like Shadow of the Colossus or Dark Souls, where enemies and structures you encounter on a regular basis are truly massive- and the game doesn't get lazy by making the rest of the world a barely-involved backdrop for throwing big things around with no overall purpose.

Here now, I like when mediums take advantage of their field, like I dont think books do action well and I dont expect them to, Im not saying that games are weak in every regard, player input is why they are good, but its also why you cant pull of certain things, the player is in control of the events on screen rather than events that are planned and coordinated by someone with a vision that wants you to think and feel a certain way by the way they have meticulously crafted their movie and placed the camera at a certain angle to catch a characters response to something. The result of trying to do that is David Cage, where he wants you to experience his vision but the gameplay is merely incidental and gets in the way of what the story is trying to do, and it shouldve just been a movie so you arent constantly being taken out of the experience by having to press X to dodge.
Again, you got to name examples of these things you are talking about, you seem to have something in mind.

I can think of quite a few games where the story couldn't have been effectively told by a movie, but I hesitate because I'm not sure I can name any that wouldn't immediately be met with "that story is shit so a movie of it would be better".
I can, however, bring up how foolish it is to say that an emotionally effective story must be told in one sitting, seeing as movies are the only artistic medium I can think of that is usually restricted to that. Even plays have an intermission. It's entirely possible for a game's creator to estimate the length of breaks between story segments and take that into account.

The base concept was really great, it only lacked a bigger and more interesting world, a heavier focus on gear gathering, more stealth options, and possibly more mechanics to interact with the superintendant.
It really shows how untapped the potential of Halo is. There were so many great elements from the start that they literally only had to make bigger maps and smaller enemy groups to make it into an entirely different game.
