The first Hitman movie did kind of understand the source material.
The only thing they did radically wrong was they gave 47 too much of a personality, which I can kind of understand considering they wanted people to actually care about him, but the whole being betrayed and going after the people who wronged him wasn't far off and how he went about it was straight out of the games. The subway sequence was particularly bad but, to be fair, that was done behind the director's back. It was originally never meant to be in the film.
Silent Hill sure as shit didn't understand the source material. He thought the whole thing was really about maternity.
