From a competitive standpoint, posion is pretty good, now more than ever thanks to it being one of fairy's two weaknesses. However in a regular playthrough it's not that useful since it's easier to just plow through everything than using stuff like toxic or toxic spikes.

Poison is immune to toxic, has 100% with toxic unlike everyone else, is only weak to the less often used psychic type and ground which is easily circumvented, and resists fighting. On top of that it hard counters fairy.
