He was kinda funny in a time where there weren't much webcomics around, and also provided you were young enough to enjoy his crude humor. Keep in mind this was like more thana decade ago. For some reason momentum carried him forward and somehow people still read him out of comfort I imagine, I doubt he's making any considerable number of new fans.
I like how it seems that he is looking forward if you cover the left half of his face and then it seems like he is looking sideways if you cover the right half.

Well we did make fun of it a lot but in the end it wasn't so outstandingly bad.
Seen worse attempts at comic relief characters.
He clearly used the dodge and burn tools for shading. Regardless the end result is flat and there are conflicting light sources all over the place.
