no, but half life (the first one) was a huge success because of its gameplay and BECAUSE the story aspect was kept minimalistic (it was good, and it was part of the success, but it's anything but a book). This is why tons of people prefer the original half life to half life 2.

Emergent storytelling is still storytelling though. I'd say half the fun in games like M&B or CK2 comes from these little stories developing during gameplay. Also, M&B has some lore to its world. Not a lot of lore, but lore nonetheless.
