Damn, vermintide was such a half-baked game. It was beautifully set up, had great ideas, was designed well, but the fucking gameplay execution was so clunky.

It just needs more maps and some more map objectives, like killing a fucking rat abomination by destroying a dam or something.

People just watched the cinematic trailers over and over and made up a game in their heads, then got furious when the game wasn't that.
Konami shenanigans also made the late-game feel rushed, which it was.
All in all, it was still my GOTY of 2015. The gameplay kept me hooked for a long time.

Not really strategy heavy, your interceptors do most of the heavy lifting and the bigger ships dont come into play until late game when its too late to matter.
Theyre good at pre-occupying bigger ships and turrets tho.
For the most part you dont need strategy

Great game. Early versions were about territory control, you traveled around a galaxy from system to system, and would get a procedurally generated combat encounter that;d allow you to take control of that system. You'd have to conquer most of the galaxy this way in order to corner the main enemy and finally kill him and his henchmen.

They decided to scrap that system.

Instead you've got a campaign, with handcrafted encounters and systems. I applaud that, handcrafting usually results in higher quality.

The resulting campaign is 2 hours long. No real replayability, no variance. 2 hours. 20 bucks.

FUCKING DROPPED.

All because of 'Testers feedback' pushing for more and more simplification of the system.

No it isn't. The melee combat get old super fast. There are people playing it to grind rather than paying for fun.
Each chapter is about the length of one L4D chapter (from start to next safe house). Afterward you go to a lobby to wait for at least several minutes for the next game

I never want to touch it ever again.

>They will just up the framerate/resolution
first developer that sticks to 720p and 30fps, but increases the effects, will have the prettier visuals in the previews, trailers and hypetrain, which will result in more sales. Current console games are not limited in framerate because the hardware can't handle more. They're limited because the framerate's sufficient for most players, and the power can be used for visuals instead

the console is not part of the game, and it's understood that there be dragons.
Does the game by default force you to stay in conversations? Like, is the player doing anything in the webm that the game prevents, and requires some debug unlock?

>a reasonable way
why is the game giving you the ability to do all these things, when you're not supposed to do them?
You may not like it, but part of open world/sandbox design is to account for the unthinkable, to make the world behave consistently even when (especially when) the player is entirely off the rails. It would be trivial for the doc to react differently, to prevent exiting of conversations, to have the attack kill that npc (it's a flag ffs) and so on. The developer did none of these. They gave the player all the abilities, and in a way, all the ways to break the game terribly. That is fundamentally bad design.

You're that insufferable cunt in tabletop roleplaying games who plays an edgelord psychopath that disrupts the game for everyone.

The sort of game you're thinking of is basically unmakeable, no-one is going to programme a storyline for every possible contingency, that's even in Deus Ex.

So if you want to play the game in the shittiest way possible and then whine that it's the developer's fault they didn't cater to people who wanted to play the game in the most retarded and illogical way possible, then don't expect anyone to take you seriously.

He probably wanted that endless play aspect that games like Mount & Blade championed, but HotDS was first and foremost a homage to the older space fighters like TIE Fighter. I guess he prioritized a small, slick, well-designed 4 hour campaign over a bloated under-developed buggy mess of a generated campaign. I can empathize.

>The sort of game you're thinking of is basically unmakeable
I presented 3, very simple to implement, solutions. Most other RPG sandboxes do them

>no-one is going to programme a storyline for every possible contingency
I did not suggest that. What you do is either prevent the action (bonus points if you manage to hide that you're preventing it), or you go for a quick game over.

>the shittiest way possible
The player is doing nothing exceptional in that webm. Just turning around, checking on the NPC. The dev must have anticipated it.

>the most retarded and illogical way possible
You do understand that the very action in that webm was performed during playtesting at least once? Probably several times? Playtesting is all about doing the unthinkable, illogical, and not what the game suggests. So, has playtesting sucked, or couldn't the dev be bothered to implement a consistent solution? Both are pretty good indicators for a serious lack of quality

should have refined the generator to make it less generic. Good procedural generators take some work.

>I guess he prioritized a small, slick, well-designed 4 hour campaign over a bloated under-developed buggy mess of a generated campaign
should have made a mission editor then instead of a generator.

So, you're saying the dev couldn't make up their mind? Does not give me much confidence for the rest of the "game"
>>
>>342828276
Actually, dude's right. It's a simple flag for the kid to not wake up and that was fucking easy to do. It has nothing to do with "getting out of menus or conversations" or anything else. The kid could have been permanently asleep. But he wasn't. Fallout used to be intricate. Look what it's become.

All of them are unnecessary, because most people play the game properly.
>Most other RPG sandboxes do them
Name one that does this in the way you're specifying.

> What you do is either prevent the action (bonus points if you manage to hide that you're preventing it), or you go for a quick game over.
Again, they don't need to, because most people play the game in a manner that's consistent with the game experience and not in a way that sets out to deliberately disrupt it

>The player is doing nothing exceptional in that webm. Just turning around, checking on the NPC.
He hits him with a fucking weapon, moron.

> Playtesting is all about doing the unthinkable, illogical, and not what the game suggests
Playtesting is mostly to check for bugs and problem points in the game. No-one is going to playtest to check whether someone is playing the game in the most retarded way thinkable.

So again, you really have nothing to say other than: "it's a shittily made game because it doesn't cater to people who don't play games like everyone else"

Seen Dwarf Fortress? Best procedural generation you'll find at the moment. Game's a total shitfest, but that generator is top. Last I checked it was a single person working on it. You won't write such a generator overnight. But it's far from impossible to write it at all.
>>

any one of them would have prevented the webm and the laughs. The dev failed.

nothing in the game keeps you from exiting conversations or shooting NPCs. That's entirely proper play.

>He hits him with a fucking weapon
hitting characters just so happens to be a primary interaction in such games. These games usually have very sophisticated reactions for bad guys being hit by weapons. It's the responsibility of the developer to code reactions for good guys, or prevent usage on good guys. Otherwise you get game-world-inconsistent responses.

>Playtesting is mostly to check for bugs and problem points in the game
That webm is a pretty big bug

>No-one is going to playtest to check whether someone is playing the game in the most retarded way thinkable.
haven't done much playtesting, have you? It's all about the corner cases. The responsibility of a tester is literally to break the game. That's all they're for.

Aside from the fact that you're a kid who isn't very seasoned, obviously because you can't stop spewing insults. But it really isn't that hard to do. Game quality has dropped. It's these things that we want to see improve, not better graphics or intricate scenery. I'm not saying there isn't a place for that either. But it's that focus that draws away from RPG games. I want an RPG where I feel like a lot of my actions count. But this isn't even about that. This is just making some kid permanently asleep until you kill them. It's a simple trigger. A flag dude. A flag. You don't understand. You're a kid.

donations for DF, afaik. Gets a couple hundred bucks per month, couple thousand during release months. Or that was the case when I last checked

Last I checked, which may have changed now, he made DF is full time job, as the donations are sustainable, and he believes he owes it to the donators to deliver something good.

>nothing in the game keeps you from exiting conversations or shooting NPCs. That's entirely proper play.
You're equating 'possible' with 'proper', don't do that.

>hitting characters just so happens to be a primary interaction in such games.
Yes, within a certain number of contexts, but out outside of them.

> It's the responsibility of the developer to code reactions for good guys, or prevent usage on good guys.
And they did that perfectly well for people who play the game the way it's meant to be played.
