They tried to make it more "sim" like and therefore less fun. They did the same thing to UFC games. The EA UFC games are shit compared to the THQ ones.
Anyway the devs have been lazy assholes since 06, never improving the base game play and only adding(and then removing to put in a few years later) superfluous mechanics and features. If you want a decent modern WWE game go for 2K14.
