Yeah, KOTOR 1 and 2 are great games on their own that don't have to do anything with the current movie cannon and they are really good story driven games plus you have Darth Revan, what's not to like.

I played them when I didn't give a shit about Star Wars and they actually are what turned me on to the franchise.
I was raised on TOS and Next Gen and as a Trekkie faggot I actually was pretty averse to Star Wars before playing these games. I'm still more into Trek, but the stories and characters of Kotor made me interested in the SW universe.

The writing in the first game is so bad that it actually becomes good in a very funny way. The second game is actually good though, but make sure to get the mod that restores cut content.
1 is painfully mediocre but it's worth sitting through to get the context for 2.
