So, let's get this straight. Doctor Robotnik's grandfather's daughter contracted AIDs, which inspired him to go to a space station to create the perfect life form. At first, the perfect life form was a lizard, but he settled on making a hedgehog instead. After the government found out however, the showed up to shut him down, procured Shadow, and many decades later Shadow goes on a rampage thinking it's what Gerald Robotnik's daughter wanted until he suddenly remembers it's the stark opposite of what she wanted. He then burnt up reentering Earth's atmosphere, only he didn't because he then went on to fight aliens and become a super secret agent and holy fuck Sonic is stupid.

Colors' storytelling was pretty bad, though. It was just joke after joke. The concept itself (Eggman builds a giant space theme park but it actually is a giant weapon that uses the energy of an alien race) is pretty good, but the writing is really bad. That game's story would have been way better if you got rid of those cutscenes. Not even the improved japanese localization could fix it.
Also, the characters were written really really bad. Sonic doesn't act like Sonic. Tails doesn't act like Tails. The same applies to Eggman.
It just got worse with Lost World.

It's the widely believed theory, when it has nothing to do with reality.
Reality is, Shadow was the badguy who hated life and humanity, but managed to redeem himself by the end, and was one of the only two present who could save humanity. He used his last bit of strength to help teleport the station out of orbit, but was then promptly spent.
He died like a hero, and everybody, even Robotnik, had something to say. It was a good sendoff. Fade to pic related, subtitle REST EASY, HEROES.
Then afterwards, it turns out that people loved Shadow, so since SEGA didn't go completely bankrupt like they thought they were going to, they put him in everything, obvious death be damned.
Remember, SA2 was supposed to be last Sonic game ever.

It's a long as fuck story. Basically, Psyguy is that one person you thought was cool back then, but he never grew up.
Most people had that one shit internet relationship where they guilted someone to do something they wanted, like sending nudes, but Psyguy never stopped. He kept acting like a 15 year old until he was like 30, and by then, he'd racked up an impressive list of preteen and teen girls he'd fucked over and discarded.
