Playable and fun with friends goofing off but it's not really the same kind of fun you'd get out of the golden era mech games with a 4 hour session leaving you craving for more and more peripherals or parts (if you were into AC instead).

Well, yeah.

Mechwarrior 4 wasn't all that great a game.
Good but not good enough to fight with MW 2 and 3.

4 had the best fluff but 3 had the best mech mechanics

you really Felt being in a mech, you felt the scale. 4's mechanics were meh at best

Too bad mech simulators died as one of those forgotten PC genres.

So many great games from Earthsiege to Activision's Mechwarriors and Heavy Gear, they were all great games that have left a void in their wake much like space sims have.

Only Armored Core tried to port them over to console but even that series is now dead and gone.
