I'm using Senn HD800 + JDS Labs Objective2 Amp. I also have DNA Sonett 2 tube amp, but the O2 has pretty much replaced it, even though there's 1200 price difference between the amps. That would be the impedance rating. It's basically the amount of power that's delivered to the headphones. My headphone jack is a max 97220 amp with is 600 ohm only. Way too much power for low impedance headphones.

Are headphones good for gaming? Like, do they improve sound quality?

They're good for hearing ONLY the sounds from your game if you're going for immersion and for hearing footsteps if you're playing a competitive game. Good quality headphones sound good, but a full setup with nice speakers is always better but way more expensive.
