Hope the next update delivers on Sea Dragon, Lava Zone, Exosuit and Lost River stuff
>Early access
So, it's a survival game. Underwater survival game. The graphics look impressive.
So all of the game is just the ocean? No dry land? Is there a story mode? Planned multiplayer?
The fact that it's early access makes me cautious, though.
>>342687873
There's two tinies island, a story (though for now it's not much), no multiplayer planned for release
>>342687873
There's dry land. A large mountain and a floating Island, as well as some of the crashed ship.
If you're not keen on early access then don't stress on it.
There's meant to be story, the large creatures shown are relevant to finding more of the story. It is a sandbox though. No idea on Multiplayer, but it'd be good if there was.
>>342687873
Dry land yes
Story mode pending

>>342689262
But that part is super easy since you have an infinite amount of fish that restore hunger and water. That's from the second you leave your little pod, once you build a base it's even easier.
>>342687873
It's mostly ocean, but it's not procedurally generated, so the locations are more memorable and intricate.

Honestly I don't really think that guns should be in the game but it's pretty stupid to make a game about exploring an alien ocean and not having a hand held harpoon/harpoon gun. It makes way more sense for catching fish instead of grabbing them with your hands and they could be used to get stalkers and bonesharks to fuck off

I didn't mean those guns. But auto-shotguns were invented for sieges, not really killing people.
AR-15's however are kind of in a weird spot. They are used for hunting, but also for killing people.
When I made that post, I meant guns being invented, not specific models down the line.
But here's the thing, people make certain knives with the sole purpose of killing, doesn't mean they're not mainly supposed to be tools.
>>342692442

reefbacks are fucking radical
>>342694625
What's wrong with them? Apart from the repeated body shape, individually they're fine
>>342695059
The humanoid torso shape and design elements make them seem more at home as things in a fantasy game. They look like the products of someone designing spins on the idea of the mythological Kraken.
You can do anything with sea creatures, and they're going with this random thing I pulled off of DeviantArt.
>>342695560
Seems like a complain you would say no matter what they would've chose
>>342696195
Naw. If they designed something that seemed like an animal and not just a bunch of random nonsense parts slapped together in a generic mix, I'd be fine with it.

Multiplayer won't happen in that game, however it was originally supposed to be and the devs haven't totally given up.

>>342691621

This game can be really pretty sometimes
They aren't being very adventurous with the creature designs. What about a gigantic hermit crab type creature that adopts the Aurora as it's shell, a Loch Ness monster looking thing or some sort of cuttlefish type deal? Maybe another intelligent species that comes along every once in a while to investigate the crash site? All this potential is being wasted on leviathans with arms.

not quite, the actual quote was something more along the lines of, "sandy hook just happened, do we really need guns in every game? subnautica is my vote for not all games needing guns"
honestly though, why would you want guns in subnautica? you wouldn't be as scared of the deep if you could just fill any threat with bullets.
>>342690239
this.
>>342692092
AR-15s were not designed to kill humans, not anymore than any other gun. They're also not really for hunting, unless vermin. .223/5.56 isn't even legal to hunt large game with, cause the caliber is too small. The AR-15 is a sporting/competitive rifle first. And that's pretty much why it was designed the way it is, with being modular and highly customizable.
It's not a fucking full auto rifle.
>>342690574
Nigga, no gun in the fucking world can put a dent in that. What the fuck is the point of these creatures if you had access to weapons of mass destruction? At most the game should give a peashooter that can deal with sand sharks, but even then I'd be against it. Last thing you fucking want is for another game to go the way of Call of Cthulhu, because the devs decided to give you a fucking weapon that's capable of killing anything in a survival horror game.
Not going to lie, I really, REALLY want that teleporter-alien fish to show up.
Parallel/Teleportation to new locations seems cool.
Just started building my base. What are the essentials? So far I have 3 foundations, a central room, some hallways, 3 lockers for metals, flora, and crafted stuff, also power supplies and a fabricator.
I also have a vehicle builder + the supply core for the 2nd sub, though I don't even have all the blueprints for the first. I can't seem to find them.
Can I deconstruct stuff for full value at any time?
>>342699794

>>342700094

You seriously underestimate the fucking firepower required to down a creature of that size. This isn't a monster hunter game, survival includes running away.
>>342700326

I started to look around in there, but I fell from the 2nd/3rd floor so I plan to head back later. It's so fucking obscenely far away that I need to get a battery for my seapull thing, plus a ton of food/water.
Do fish respawn? I see very few in the starter area, I built my base near the landing pod.
>>342700540
The fact that they require so much effort makes them worthless, solar panels if you have like 5 of them it's enough to keep a filtration system powered, and if you're making a deep sea base and need power you might as well go thermal
>>342700326
So then what the fuck do you suggest? Once implimented, it will make certain areas of the map too dangerous to even explore since it can one shot you from stupid ranges and you cant see shit in the depths they live in. And we both know shit thats aggressive will continue to attack you until either you die or you kill it. You could be mining shit and minding your own business, then you instantly die out of nowhere and lose your sub or exo, and everything you collected. That sounds utterly broken and stupid

>>342699961
You can deconstruct stuff for full value yes. But if you do it to a locker you wont keep whats IN the locker.
Made that mistake myself.
Otherwise the only real essentials are to keep your hull integrity up so your base doesn't flood. And to keep it powered day and night so you keep the lights/oxygen going.
Everything else is up to you really.

Solar panels don't work over night though.
Besides all you need is a aquarium with the right fish and you've got infinite power.

Yes, but from experience the collision detection is only applied on the exterior of the map so you can get back inside if you accidentally go OOB.
It's also a bad idea to quit the game when you're on land, since it loads after gravity is applied to the player and will cause you again to go OOB.

>game requires that you be able to turn 360 degrees, whether standing or in a swivel chair
>review: 1 star
>reason: i dont have a spinny chair
Not an accurate quote per se, but that's basically what it was. And reviews as stupid as those get posted DAILY. In some cases, even half or more of reviews don't talk about the actual content of the game. I'm convinced the majority of the human population is just retarded.
>>342691417
The mission will never be done, unless you kill everyone. I think it's time to face the obvious, that the morons in the 90's who claimed "history ended" never got- good part of the world does not WANT liberal demoracy. No amount of interventions will change it. Even Japan, US pet project, would be considered a joke democracy if it was not so rich that no one will say it out loud. There will be no peace in the middle east by means of external intervention.

it's one of the easiest survival games I've played
So, I don't know jack shit about subnautica, but I like deep sea shit, so I'll ask:
How good is it at conveying size?
Does it do its best (with short underwater draw distance) to make it really difficult to get a clear view of an entire giant monster, preferring to give you glimpses?
Does the environment feel sufficiently large for an ocean setting?
I'm seeing something that looks a little bit akin to underwater Shadow of the Colossus here (only you just run from the colossi), where the world is big and the creatures are big and it's presented in a way deliberately designed to make you feel small and pitiful.
Is it that? Or are people just memeing about another survival crafting game because it has big fish in it?

yes to those three questions

>>342712138
It's pretty good at showing off size. You go from small green shrimp to things that can fit your Seamoth in their mouth. That said those creatures aren't fully implemented yet. But they're wanting to go for big.
Also the environments you explore are large and deep. But again still in development so it might be disappointing for you right now.

The Propulsion/Repulsion Cannon is a spear gun, it grabs things and pulls them to you to collect and you can also send them flying away at the speed of sound. Upgraded it becomes a kinetic launcher that can even push things as big as Crabsquids around.

The posters pretty obviously wouldn't have problems with it if it were a design choicewhich is pretty obviously fucking was. It's blatantly obvious they were just trying to appear smart. Fucking morons.because it's a good design choice. They're just talking about the fact that the devs said something fucking stupid in an attempt to tryhard.
>>342727689
Devss say stupid things, alert the presses. Only on 4chan will people constantly bring it up and scream about how the sky is falling.
>>342727963
But they're not really screaming are they. You have one person making bantz and another person saying that he doesn't wish to buy a game if the developers are the sort of people to try and do something like that. I wouldn't do it myself but the statement is reasonable and relevant to the discussion of the game. Don't be such a fucking baby.Remember kids: You're only allowed to talk about things online if you have positive things to say about it! Wouldn't want to hurt feelings. :^)
So will the Cute Fish only be aviable for EA Buyers or will it also be obtainable through other means later on that require actual work?

Go ahead and mention in, but it doesn't need to be mentioned every damn thread because it ultimately means nothing. It's not a SHMUP game where you can run around slaughtering all the animals for the lulz, there's already plenty of ways to defend yourself without needing any kind of gun.
>>342728610
Just play and discover for yourself. The game is best when it's surprising you. Leave the thread. It can get pretty dull when you're out of content. best not to spoil it for yourself.

>>342728954
If they don't work underwater, then why put them in? Also you already have a speargun-type tool, the Propulsion Cannon, which grabs things and can reel them in to be collected or fired away. You can do things like grab Crashes of the Gasopod's acid balls and shoot them at other creatures.
>>342729372
Oh I agree with you, putting guns in would be retarded but NOT having a spear gun when trying to survive off the ocean is equally retarded.
>>342728695
You're acting like I don't agree with that statement. I said up here >>342727689 that it was a good design decision. It makes the game more interesting. I would also argue that the people who made those posts would/do think so to but find the statement laughable (Because it is)in which case joking about it is a fucking givenor off-putting (Because it is)in which case it is relevant to the discussion.
By pretending that it wasn't a purely game-design decision the devs have opened themselves up to their shitty logic crumbling and people pointing out shit like >>342728954 . This is relevant to the discussion of the game. Of course people are going to talk about it. How offensive weaponry can be implemented in subnautica while still keeping the feel of the game is a much more interesting discussion than "I SAW A THING AND IT WAS SPOOKY" for the 50th time. Don't like it? Either ignore it, join in or fuck off.
While we're on the topic of repeating topics: I sure hope you're also getting grumpy at discussions of size and the new creatures that are going to be showing up. We haven't had new info on that in a while and it also shows up every thread. Or are you just getting autismal about people talking about things you don't like friendo? :^^)

A floating locker, what I always wanted.
Ok, so I love this game, but I have a serious beef. When I first installed it, months ago, it ran like a dream, drawing terrain, creatures and even little gribble fish and sea grass from a solid, respectable distance.
Ever since the patch before the power nap patch, the game has loaded chunks slower than i take shits. Like, seams are open in all the terrain until I am close enough to kiss it, terrain changes shape as I get to it making my seamoth get the shit kicked out of it, kooshes disappear at like 40 meters... Seriously killing my immersion...
Then the other day I was playing when A FUCKING REAPER LOADED IN IN FRONT OF ME. So, now I'm a bit salty. My machine runs other games without much issue, always ran subnautica fine until recently... I'm looking for any kind of tips to get rid of some of this shit. I ain't interested in sneaking up on invisible fucking seamonsters.

>>342738527
They're working on it, a lot of blueprints and story data will be in the wrecks.
>>342738190
I remember finding this place, but there was no way I could get in because of the jellyfish, so I decided to go back to the base to make that propulsion cannon and see if that worked to move them around.
I could never find that place again.
>>342738665
Pretty sure they're in the process of moving ALL fragments into the wrecks/abandoned bases/ escape pods.
Also they're gonna replace the placeholder boxes with damaged versions of the item/machine for all fragments so it'll be a lot easier to tell them apart. I think the models are pretty much done and they just need to be put in but it's probably going along with moving them to the final locations.
>>342739064
A lot of the components and items have been updated from boxes to their models already, so they're coming along nicely. I think they also might have parts and stuff scattered in the world at large, too, but not nearly as thickly as it is right now.
>find the bed, table, chair, and trash can
