They're really not though, they just arent hammered home like usual. And the whole point of big bosses plot is literally told through venom. Venom is everything big boss isn't, and that speaks volume in how angry kaz gets at every decision he makes.
If anything Kaz and the rest of diamond dogs are a representation of what big boss would be, angry, bitter and spiteful. MG2 clearly shows that.
I'm not saying the game isn't finished and needed tons more time, but the game does a good job of telling a story of big boss with what's there. If you can't see that then I don't know what to tell you.

What makes you think Venom wouldn't have lost his shit if he had saw Mother Base being attacked? He's not a pacifist. Same with everything else. I'm just basing my interpretation off of the fact that the cinematography in the cutscene takes the role of both big boss and venom's perspectives. and on top of that, venom is clearly very affected by everything that has happened and is happening to him. As we can see by the tapes in the game, even after waking up big boss is still very much himself. Venom barely talks, has the thousand yard stare, and is clearly fucked up in his head.
I don't think it's unfair to assume big boss and venom would react differently to these events seeing as how big boss goes on to be charismatic enough to trick the entire world into believing he's good while he plans a secret uprising.

The characters are defined by what they lose.
Venom loses his identity as the Medic, and his arm. As Big Boss, he lost Mother Base and his comrades. He lost Paz and Chico.

Ocelot loses Big Boss, his mother, father, and is tasked with creating a new one.
D-Dog is missing an eye.
Code Talker lost his civilization and way of life, along with his research on vocal cord parasites
Same with Skull Face, he loses his language, too.
Eli believes he was born a loser because he believes lost his right to the superior genes.
Man on Fire loses his life to Big Boss.
Huey loses his child, and takes revenge on his wife.
Quiet lost her body, her organs, and relies on parasites to survive.
Every character is trying to regain what they lost through revenge.Their personal missions destroy their souls, dooming them to pain and anger so long as they hold that burning coal called revenge in their hand.
Venom and building up Mother Base, getting new arms, and chasing Paz through cassettes.
