The storyline is terrible, the character creator is lacking, the leveling experience through quests is tedious.
On the other hand, it one of the last MMO with racial abilities, combat is tight and players ACTUALLY HAVE COLLISION WITH EACH OTHER.
The community is full ERP, but people are mostly friendly.
It is average, but with tons of high points and low points. If you want fast combat I'd recommend Blade&Soul instead, but if you like the feeling weighty moves and constant back and forth I'd recommend Tera. Keep in mind, that only applies to melee.

Oh, well doing bosses and dungeons are not my cup of tea, I generally just like doing random quests and exploring the map.
I did do a few bosses in Tera, but it consisted of high level people running ahead, killing everything, leaving drops you can't get and just rushing to the boss, probably grinding for some drop.
That's probably the general MMO experience though, but I don't like it, which is why I stick to doing random quests.

While it isn't universal 2.5 gcd, there is no denying that the cds are universally lengthened in most instances as to accommodate a large console player base that are expected to use controllers.

Played this game on launch, I'd probably still play from time to time because the combat is so satisfying and good but unfortunately I'm EU and the EU localizers are the worst thing in the world.
I can't play NA because Tera is a game that is dependant on low-ping, if you have a high ping (anything above 70ms) you're gonna really feel it even in PVE content.

If it would then they'd do it but time and time again it has been proven in ktera and other markets that elins raise the most money so therefore it's best to spend all development funds on elin animations/models instead of wasting resources to create models/animations for all the other races.
Don't forget that every race has it's own individual animations for each action.

This was like 6 months to over a year ago, period that this shit happened.
And with Tera being so old and so many modern MMORPGs to choose from now, killing off your long time core supportbase is the most retarded thing you can do.
Incidentally, the numbers dropped so low, there was that rumor that EME laid off a bunch of people, which from both finding out how so many people were banned and from losing probably a lot of the old GMs during the laying off, seems to have stopped the issue. However it is already too late really.

Tera has nothing to do but level up and do dungeons. The side activities are non-existent. Crafting is tedious, unsatisfying, and damn near impossible to do on your own effort without have to turn to the broker.
PvP is kind of fun, but really awkward if you run on mid-range or lower.

TERA is quite good imo, but the time requirement for becoming 'viable' at endgame is so enormous now that it really is not very approachable for casual players.
This means that the endgame community is composed mostly of turbo autistics with insanely high standards, who basically refuse to let anyone into their secret club.
As always, the option is to either spend 40 hours a week grinding stuff, or to settle for a 'normie casual' guild where you might occasionally get a charity run of high end content by the few geared people.

Every race and every gender has different animations. To make a class for every race & gender, they have to animate that for every fucking combination. An elf male slayer was different from a human male slayer and etc.
Making a class 1 gender/race means a lot less time and money spent on animation and rigging shit and equipment and etc. Elin are the most populous race. If you want something to sell, you sell it to the masses.
I don't like it (I played high elf chicks), but eventually you realize it's either something you like as an Elin player, or don't like and have to accept.

Lets look at it from a game design perspective instead. You make what is ostensibly an RPG, complete with character creator and everything. You make new classes later on, to expand your game. By making a class for only one race/sex combo, you have essentially wasted yours and everyone else's time by admitting that you can't be assed to actually work on your product in the same vein as its original release.
The point is, you can either make something worthwhile, or you can half-ass it and hope no one cares. If the latter is the only financially possible choice, then there is no choice, but as a person on the outside, I have no way of knowing what their cash flow looks like, but I know what the game looks like, and I know how shitty these decisions look. As a person who plays games, I don't have to give a shit what their financial position is, I can either accept what they have on offer or go play something else. As for community management, it's gotten better. They have a nice Community Manager now (can't think of anyone who doesn't like him), and Treeshark pretty much tells us everything and fixes shit constantly. KR Nexon now publishes for KTera, and since they've taken over, things seem to be vastly improving over there.
It's weird that I'm somewhat defending a game I don't necessarily actively play, but when I do play it I still enjoy it, at least the PvP section. The fact that we are roughly only 3 months behind in patches compared to the 6+ months we use to be is a nice change, too.

I played Tera for a very long time with a few breaks inbetween. I had +15 Generation, Lucid and Starfall and cleared basically everything there was to clear. I quit though a few months.
Firstly, I like to think Tera had 2 peaks. First was at release with MCHM. One of the hardest dungeons I've encountered in any MMO and one of the most rewarding. If you could clear it comfortably you could sell quills and make mad dosh. Seemed fair, right? Clear the hardest dungeon only a few poeple can, become one of the richest players.
The second peak was years later during the SCHM patch. Holy shit the game was actually fun again. KN/RE/ABHM was absolutely nothign compared to SCHM. Highest risk class at that time(Zerk) also had highest dps which also seemed perfectly fair. Wiping at Perimos and Darkan for hours and hours was so much fun... and then they released Gunners. So now you had a class essentially doing twice the job a normal dps can while being three times safer than them. Fun...
Next patch you had AIHM/TSHM which were both cleared within the first hours since neither required any skill. Farming for Lucid mats got boring especially since you had to outroll 9 other people in AI(unless you had enough friends who shared equally).
And then EME's biggest fuck up with dividing the FI/DS patch. They promised us the harder part of the dungeons at the beginning of the new year and then they basically said "whoops, we fucked up, it will take 3 months". Don't think I ever saw an EME post as heavily downvoted as that one.
Those 3 months essentially killed Tera. The best way to make Gold was repeating a certain daily 16 times a day per character. That daily did not require any gear, literally anyone could do it. One set of 16 clears took roughly 10 minutes iirc, less if your group had decent aoe dmg. That shit inflated the market to extreme and it never recovered.

Shortly after that the western release was announced, was really hyped back then and pre-ordered the CE for theEU release.
I really liked the game if only for the Elins and ganking subhumans with friends, shame that the game is completely garbage (community-wise) these days and the EU version of the game was fucking horrible and I never quite adjusted to the US version of the game.

I feel you, the game was fantastic back in Alpha / early Beta. They have reduced jewing and re-applied some patches but i'm not sure if it's worth coming back.
It isn't bad for a f2p game. Though there are only around 2200 players.
One of the reasons it died is because of the gender-locking for no good reason. 3+ classes are gender-locked. Reaper being gender locked behind loli pedo shit.
The combat is the only thing saving it, honestly. If the combat wasn't as good as it is then it would probably just be passed as another generic WoW clone. Everything else about it seems way too traditional and generic as fuck.

What makes me say that? When I started playing the game seemed to have a large playerbase. Not many servers to choose from because "LOLWORLDFULL" nowadays nothing but Behemoth and Gilgamesh are the top servers.
I moved servers a couple of times and its saddening that looks like weebs and ERPers are keeping it relevant because that's all they do. (probably, alternatively shitters too. I just remember my buddy that couldn't clear SephEX for a month, they invited me, we wiped, their players were shit, had to suggest him to disband, eventually all of them left)
Transferred multiple worlds only to see people leaving left and right until one of my friends game back too the game, moved to his world. My current world (ultros) to be populated by January at all times (probably due to humble sale) and nowadays semi-populated during weekends, rarely during weekdays(party finder, idleshire, etc a ghost town). Only saw it going live again by 3.2 and 3.3 and not so alive. One of my friends told me people are starting to disappear again and some are butthurt because lolalchemy#1.

The golden age of Tera before F2P is a time in my life I'll never forget. Having the freedom to ERP in /say is something I'll always long for in an MMO.

It's got every problem that your average MMO has. So, yes. It's that bad.
Devs need to drop the "kill x of this enemy complete, now kill x of that enemy" crap. It's not fun. It's not what made WoW successful, nor was it the shitty quickslot-based combat, which Tera BARELY strays away from.
The sad thing is, it's not just F2P MMO's that do this. Black Desert abuses the shit out of the kill x enemies questing. I'm glad a buddy gave me a free trial code so I didn't have to pay $60 for shitty optimization and uninteresting quests. The only thing BD has going for it is its combat.
MMO's could be great, but there is no innovation in the genre. Every developer just wants to play it safe, so we get the same game over and over with new textures.

Agreed, but that's not how you level in Tera. Thankfully you can just spam dungeons and level even faster than questing. Once you hit the first dungeon you don't need to do another kill x, collect y quest till max level. It's wonderful.

Questing is hands down the fastest way to level in the game, especially if you have a friend or two to help out. There's just no question of that, after how easy they've made it.

I have extensive experience with leveling in this game. Dungeons were always ahead of quests and now completely blow them out of the water with the new relic weapons you get.

Not only that but dungeons you can sort of sit back more and relax as you go through it instead of walking to point x, point y and point z like a mad man.
It can even get somewhat interesting and challenging at times when you can literally pull the ENTIRE dungeon trash mobs and fight them all at once.
Speedy leveling isn't the issue. It should be enjoyable. Kill x gather y is boring. Getting into a dungeon is great, but you don't get that until around level 20, and even then, you're too weak to matter, you're doing piss-poor damage and getting smashed by trash mobs.

You'll gain strength quickly enough because of relic weapons and then dungeon drops.
Personally I always try to fight basilisks early for exp because I think kill x gather y quests are suicide-inducing boredom.

Coming from someone who has played the game since beta and accomplished just about everything you could do in the game when i wasn't taking an extended break from it, Tera is a great game that due to developer mismanagement has kind of fallen into an inescapable slump where they just shovel in copy-paste content patches and overpowered classes and ignore the real problems dragging the game down.
It has by far the best combat system of any MMORPG i have ever played and can still be very enjoyable if it's fresh and new to you i suppose but ever increasing balance issues and new classes keep fucking up PvP balance which was one of the aspects of the game i enjoyed the most. Back during the VM1/VM2 days a few years ago pvp and pve were at a high point but lazy dungeon design and the new classes changing the pvp meta to a mass stun/stagger aoe shitfest kind of spoiled it.
I'm definitely grateful that i got to experience the game in it's prime though and i'll never forget all the great experiences i had while playing it. Nothing has ever come close to TERAs combat, vindictus, wildstar, gw2, ffxiv, bns, BDO, none of them have anything on TERA.

The hands on PC/PS4 are modeled, meaning they have the wireframe required. The Vita models don't. They share animations. You can't animate hands on PC/PS4 without either updating Vita models (not happening since it wouldn't be able to run) or reanimating EVERYTHING and having Vita animations separate (not happening because sega is jew as fuck).
I had fun with Dragon Nest until jews and shit. Shame good games die because of cash shops.
