From what I've heard Folklore was actually pretty well liked in its heyday, though to be fair there's a reason the "no games" meme still kinda lingers and Folklore was from that era.
Also, anything with pic related in it.

Gameplay is decent. The level design is pretty uninspired but there's a decent flow to leveling creatures and swapping them out for new ones to keep combat a little fresh throughout. Generally though the aesthetic is quite good - music, story, visual design, that sort of thing. I liked it well enough and it didn't overstay its welcome length-wise, though you do have to play through each part twice for each character, though the creatures and story angle are different for each one.

It's really sad, actually. Bandai Namco threw them under the boss for some odd reason. They purposely kept the game lowkey that e3, only showing it outside of the public area to a small group of people, had ZERO marketing, then overprinted the game and declared it would be a million seller.
The game was so hard to find information for outside of their claim it would sell over a million. It had so little attention amazon put it half off day of release. Game republic was closed right after release.
It's a shame, because it's seriously one of my favorite games last gen. They could have done so much.

Pretty sure /v/ always had threads about Nier. It got brought up a lot in music threads too when it was new. But yeah as far as everyone is concerned definitely an under the radar title.
Posted this earlier in a similar thread, might as well do it again while it's dirt cheap.
It's a fps and a colonial america MURDER simulator. You get to kill red eyed spaniard and burning demonic indians during the day time, and when you switch to night time you get to kill skeletons and wraiths instead.
You do this while carrying on investigations about the countless murders and rapes committed in the remains of the colony you're exploring. You're a 15th century Phoenix Wright, armed with muskets, flintlocks and bows and with an attitude for putting restless souls to peace.
It's got a good spook factor and you get to kill minorities all the time (or their dead counterparts, hard to tell when they're bones).

I enjoyed playing as Keats, but the wagglan gimmick drove me up the fucking wall.
Then I had to play as Ellen to further the story and I dropped it. The waggling got even worse and even more inaccurate and the fights started having you rely on status effects, I just couldn't go on anymore.

I think an 8 is fair enough. It's solid enough, but definitely needed polish. Still, was one of the few games where the axis controls were neatly used.
Don't know if it really qualifies as "hidden", but pic related. Too bad I sold it, I kinda miss it now since I neer beat it. Specifically because it's one of those games that locks you out of a super important quest item if you don't follow the optional sidequest steps. Wish I didn't sell it because now I can't find it.
Overall a decent Zelda 1 clone, has it's charm.

You know, like for example Betrayal at Krondor.
/v/ is full of kids that played yuh Fallouts, Planescape Torments and Baldur's Gates and now think they're super WRPG masters. But that's just a RPGcodex-tier delusion. Older RPGs are much more complex and engaging.
(Especially Fallout 2 is just fucking awful full of cringy references and memes. If it came out nowadays, /v/ would hate it.)

Honestly one of the best JRPGs I've ever played. Lived up to the western aspects of the setting better than the other Wild Arms too, even though the story meanders a bit in the middle.

They remove swearing but don't replace it with anything so you have cutscenes where someone is just talking to themselves. Then they remove more violent environmental deaths but once again don't replace it. The giant centrifuge at the last level doesn't have a guy you can push into it and if you die you just fall back instead of rag-dolling all over the room. Lastly they seem to not want to show people dying in cutscenes. What happens is you see what happens before the death, it cuts away, then you see the guy on the floor regardless of how he actually died, like the guy you throw off a cliff's body is just there, sinclair's body is on the ground after having been pushed in front of a train. My favorite on though is when the Private is being interrogated, they removed the slapping, but they kept the sound byte so you have someone pointing a slapping sound gun at someone really threateningly.

I think physical copies are only Pal. Clunky controls and far from the usual triple a titles but i find it immersive and very creepy at times, in contrast to other horror titles of the recent years.
I promise you nobody played this shit but me. It was a time when I only owned a Wii. Brawl was delayed, the PS3 was shit, and Halo 3 was all the rage. This game was so bad that it was good. The story seems like one big parody then they had the nerve to end it on a cliffhanger.

this game was buggy as fuck, it was so bad it made one mission completely unbeatable so I had to put it down. I absolutely loved the original, it's one of my top 10 GOAT. But the sequel is shit. I played the PS2 version of the sequel and was able to complete that but that port was such a rush job it was an embarrassment.
This series was supposed to be huge. I remember it even had a comic book. All the characters were interesting, except the nigger. I still think back to this series and imagine what could have been.
