I found the first game CD I ever owned last week in my mom's attic.
It was a copy of Need for Speed III my cousin burned for me after playing it atherplace.
I spent so many hours playing this in splitscreen with my sister... back when I was lucky to get an hour at the family computer after being a good boy and doing chores.

It looked horrible, the UI was at best "intuitive", it constantly needed to update which at the time an update was a significant download on a dialup modem, and it would lock you out of playing games until you did. It crashed, it had memory leaks which would force you to restart steam or your pc, it wouldn't let you play your games without running steam..

They will have their pictures from birth to death publicly posted on the internet, every single thing they've ever liked or said online neatly categorized and cataloged. Every day they will spend hours consuming videogames, anime, social media, etc; For years. And more years. Nothing will matter anymore because of how indoctrinated everyone will be to the "Must consume, must consume faster, give me more" attitude that's befallen us all. We're affected too, but not as much as children now. Childhood is effectively dead, and everyone has been incorporated in the media consumption machine. Just think how much anime there is, and how fast it's growing. You could spend your entire life watching something new, and in 20 years? It will have doubled in size. So much fucking better then Sims 2 and 3. Not touching Sims 4. And for so many reasons, it felt like a Maxis game and not an EA game. It appealed to everyone rather then having that prissy teeny bopper music and feminine as fuck reactions from men. You can make a man into a masculine drunk slop and trying to do it in the others just felt like a feminine goofy man acting it.
God damn I had so much fun, my houses were batshit insane, usually with bizarre stories and mods up the ass. One family I made when I was 11 was called the Bastards. 6 ex-criminals living with Sailor Moon and a child who's the son of Sailor Moon and one of the men yet it wasn't determine. She whored around drinking one day and died in a fire. The kids room was filled with gargoyles and clown pictures and I made scenarios where the kid called the police out of abuse and the police just walked away. Also drunk gnomes, doors that killed people if they went through them, gorilla strippers, and fucking odd mod showers that boosted all your stats to max and placed it out side just to see cats and dogs line up to use it by floating and SINGING. Most pissed themselves and died due to the line being so long.
When I ask myself how I found 4chan over a decade ago, I say that 4chan found me.

I was 18 by 2007, but no, the days of pre-social media were the best. The internet sucks now, it's downsized to a singularity of Twitter/Facebook/Tumblr/Reddit/Youtube with each snowflake competing for attention. The days of public forums for niche interests are gone. Humor is ransacked from smaller communities and brought to the normies on Reddit.

Back when /v/ was a lot smaller, Billy Mays was king. Going on /v/ related TF2 server hearing his micspam remixes or going on Youtube for YTP. And then he died in June 2009 and god was I heartbroken.
