It's because it's offline mode. If you don't /register then anyone could just sign in with your name and steal all of your stuff.

Literally all you have to do is type
/register <password>
So that your account can't be hijacked by other players. It takes like ten seconds :/

The server is "cracked" because my friends that I started the server for don't have accounts -- I do though, I just wanted to play with them and I figured that leaving it in offline mode would open another avenue of players.
