The only things that come to mind that there has been less of is Primals (which ARR got away with because they had a bunch of 1.0 content to recycle) and dungeons (which is pretty much the same story, some of the ARR "Hard Mode" dungeons were lazy as all hell).
That isn't to say that HW has been fantastic, 3.1 in particular is probably the worst patch the game ever saw.

It really wasn't, though. People only say this because it added two major systems that nobody liked right on the coat tails of a 4 month period of a sparse post-expansion endgame. It still added a 24 man raid, 2 new dungeons, and a trial (even if it was just an Ex version of a pre-existing trial); all standard fare for the meat of the game's major patches.
Diadem was poorly conceived, but LoV is a legitimately well-crafted and fun game. It's a shame so few people appreciated it. And that's the real problem; people say they want new game mechanics and variety, but all they really want is more of the same dungeons and raid tiers.
If they had swapped 3.1 and 3.2, people would have been a lot more forgiving of the diadem and LoV and regarded the patch a lot better.

My friend got me to try HW and you could play the expansion a week thanks to grace period and pre-order early access without buying the game.
I stopped playing after a week, 2 dungeons and teleporting around for outdoor fodder for those medals were all you did the first week. I immediately stopped playing, how can people could say it was fine and had good content were beyond delusional.
I'm not saying WoW is good, I haven't played since Cata but holy shit FFXIV doesn't have a fifth of content that WoW has with each expansion.
Red Mage will be a Melee Magic based DPS, their weapon of choice will be a rapier. They will work similar to spellfencers meaning that they can imbue their weapon with different magic effects. They have a few utility abilities like a MP goad for party members and can also apply magic resistance down to enemies. Finally, they have a few ranged spells but they aren't as potent as Black Mage's spells.
Beast Master is a Melee Pet based Tank, they can summon different pets with different functions similar to how Summoners can summon different egis. They have a large pet that tanks for them, they have a smaller pet that does good single target DPS, and they have another pet that focuses primarily on decent AoE damage. The Beast Master dual wields one handed axes and is designed to be a off tank job similar to Warrior but they can main tank well if they micromanage their tank pet effectively.
Dancer will be the healing job. Their weapon of choice is Chakrams (which can also be glamoured to be invisible kind of like Emperor's New Fists). Their main gimmick is the ability to combine dance moves similar to combining ninja mudras to create powerful support buffs or heals. They are designed to be less about raw healing potency and more about mitigating damage and supporting the party with buffs/shields kind of like Scholar and Nocturnal Sect Astrologian.

Its better a garlean addon with them suddenly turning good or at least cooperate for a while against the Ascians or some shit so we can have garlean classes. I dont want to fight them all the time, knowing they are by far the most capable guys around compared to that eorzean shithole with generic towns and characters seen a million time in other MMOs and JRPGs in general.
I don't want them to raise the level cap again. What would be the point? Class abilities are bloated enough as they are and slogging through 60 levels is already a chore, particularly for crafters/gatherers. All they would be doing is making all the current content irrelevant, although I guess they do that anyway by continually increasing the item level.
It would just be one more step towards the total stagnation of the game. Besides some new jobs, I'd like to see them do something to really shake up the current progression system. Like, redesign stats from scratch so that people actually have a degree of customization or choice and item level isn't the be-all and end-all of progression. If you make new abilities, rather than just having more shit we need to fit on our hotbars, make them alternate choices we can swap out our existing abilities for. Maybe jobs can actually have different builds then.
That's all a pretty tall order though considering how safe they played it with Heavensward. Most likely we're just going to get another level increase with another progression reset and all the HW content will become obsolete.

The customization would be an illusion though, because people would just min-max for what is the best anyways for the content online. Not really, just watch videos and set up a party finder saying that you want to watch the story. From turn 1 up to turn 9 you will find members for your party really quick and it can be 4 maned just a healer a tank and a few dps and you are set. From coild 10 to 13 you will need just a little bit more knowledgable members but you can still find a party fairly quick, just say you are new and want to watch the story and people will help for sure

Talent builds end up being shit in games like this because everyone just picks the thing that will make them do the most dps/healing/mitigation and fuck everything else. They don't actually involve doing content either, you just pick your shit and off you go. If they just redesigned stats instead so that it was maybe a bit more complicated than "Stack X" it would give people a reason to look at "old" content if it had items they could use.
That's still not an ideal solution, but such a thing can't really exist in a themepark mmo based on treadmill progression. No matter which angle you approach it from, you wind up at a dead end eventually.

I just bought this game. I'm a level 24 Thaumaturge or whatever the fuck, 23 weaver, 14 alchemist, 8 miner. So far I can't seem to stop playing. I've been missing that MMO vibe for awhile and this delivers on any level that I would want it too. The crafting is really cool. I came from WoW so everything is really familiar. Fug.. I'm so stoked on this game. Been crafting like a mug inbetween dungeon ques. Still need to get Heavensward but I'm glad they announced something new. I hope they consider adding more midcore content. The main problem I have with this game is that there's only two spectrums. Casual duty finder content that's easy enough to cheese through and then there's hardcore savage mode which requires a static and minmaxing your ass off to get anything done. Extreme primals are great since it's in the middle difficulty and you don't need a static to beat it, but there's not enough of them.

3.5 will include special materia that modifies your skills a little. For example MCH will get a materia that let's your wildfire benefit a little from all DPS of the group, or one that shortens the CD of all your self-buffs. They need to be melded into your chest piece and are mutually exclusive. You can either improve your support capabilities or your DPS capabilities. This will be done for all classes, offering a more vertical progression with materia that stays relevant for the whole lifespan of XIV.

200k-300k per materia is hardly expensive. Even then you can buy some rank IVs for much less, and you're given a rank V materia every week by the 24 man raid.

Tanks will always be ahead if they aren't complete garbage, but dps should have a sizable headway on the tank's threat too. If their bar is really low, it means they're probably slacking.

Personally, I prefer speedrunning since DF dailies give such a ridiculous amount of EXP but it takes about two to three hours to finish them all. I don't understand how people with full time jobs can consistently level up, unless they just don't which is an awful waste of a subscription.
That being said though, a DPS being bitchy and pulling enemies out of turn is just shitty. If the tank or healer aren't up to speedrunning then you're gonna make it worse by forcing it upon them. Better to just go with the flow and not turn a 30min dungeon into 45min or 60min. God forbid someone gets pissy and just fucking leaves, potentially ruining everything. Thankfully, lower level dungeons are much more lenient; I've tanked the entirety of Tam-Tara Deepcroft as a Bard. That was pretty fun.

What role do you enjoy most? Narrow it down from there.

Start with what you think seems fun to play and stick with it. Don't worry too much about leveling up a ton of different classes, although you do need to get a second class at least up to 15 depending on your advanced job decision. For example, Paladins need to level up the White Mage to 15 and Black Mages need to level up the Archer to 15.
Don't worry about which jobs are better or worse; in the end, every job is perfectly viable in every situation. What's far more important than min-maxing is that you're having fun. Otherwise, what are you even playing for?
Later on, consider leveling up a role you're not familiar with. For example, if you leveled up a tank to 50, try leveling up a healer or DPS class next. It's good to have an understanding of how the entire party works. Don't feel obligated to max out every job unless you really want to though; just stick with your favorites at first.
Ignore Crafting and Gathering classes until you hit 50. It's a massive waste of time unless you're willing to go ALL THE WAY. Who's knows if you'll even like the game by then. Also, level up Gathering classes before crafting classes. Also also, fuck Culinarian; it's fucking useless unless you're doing super serious min-maxing savage difficulty type shit.
You get your Chocobo at Lv.20. Don't forget it.

Generally speaking DPS jobs are easier to handle, or at the very least they have lighter responsibilities than the other roles. On the other hand, they're also the most common jobs by far and large so you'll be spending a lot of time waiting to get picked up for parties. If anyone in my party is a MCH, DRK, or AST and they're doing shitty, I get pretty mad. I'll give MCH a pass if they're a low level since that's kind of complicated and it's a lot of new skills at once, but low level DRK and AST are literally just copy paste low level WAR and WHM. You had to get pretty fucking far in the game to unlock them so I don't want to hear any excuses. Hell, I had a DRK in Lost City of Amdapor (Normal) who kept complaining that the DPS wouldn't target the same enemy he was targeting and that he was running out of MP too quickly. He also accused me of not knowing DRK when I had already gotten PLD, WAR, and DRK to 60. Somehow, we made it through to the end but fucking hell that was annoying.

When it's DF dailies, I let shitters pass as long as they're not completely ruining the run. Of course, raids are a completely different story but even then I wouldn't just kick them out right before the final boss unless they're poor performance is preventing victory. Fucking EVERY boss goes invulnerable every 10 goddamn seconds so you can never use things like Wildfire/Dreadwyrm/etc.
If you use it too early, it goes to waste because you lose a lot or all of its added damage due to their invul. And if you try to save it for the perfect moment that's multiplicativly less dps that you've lost by not using it.
And fights have too much fucking movement. It's so unfair because some classes are totally unaffected by it and do stupid amounts of damage while others fall to the bottom and can never climb back up, it's bullshit.

Everyone keeps saying Doma or Ala Mhigo but I personally find Sharlayan to be more likely, with a major event in the story taking place on a moon. I say this mainly because neither Doma or Ala Mhigo have been mentioned much at all after the halfway point of Heavensward but Sharlayan gets mentioned a lot, what with Idylshire being one of their larger abandoned cities and Matoya endlessly talking shit about them. Several dungeons in the Hinterlands also give a glimpse into how Sharlayan is. I'm just about to fight Nidhogg's shade now so unless there's a ridiculous exposition regarding Doma or Ala Mhigo, I'm just not seeing it.
Furthermore, the Garlean Empire is the second strongest villainous force in the game, behind the Ascians, Waltzing into either Doma or Ala Mhigo, both Garlean occupied, would be met with a ridiculous amount of resistance, and I can't see a move of that level until maybe 5.0.
The only major problem I'm having with Sharlayan is how much they hate outsiders. Anyone who's gotten past Lv50 in the AST story line knows what I'm talking about, but maybe that can be worked in the story. Maybe Sharlayan gets attacked by the Garlean Empire and they're desperate for assistance? Either way, it still seems more plausible to me than either Doma or Ala Mhigo.

I don't mean to be an ass but money comes in easy as fuck and the only thing you'll really "need" it for is buying materia. Otherwise, you can easily make 500,000gil a month just through ventures and selling what you don't want. The EXP bonus is nice I can more easily farm 99 Aligator Pears and be good to go. As for cross-class skills, I'll certainly give you Hasty Touch at Lv.15; that move is fucking insanely good. Not quite as good as that other one that guarantees progress at low efficiency but Hasty Touch is awesome, But nothing else worth investing in CUL until you get other crafting classes to 50. By that point though, you're obviously dedicated enough to go all the way so you're going to be leveling every crafting class anyway.

They've already confirmed that, eventually, you'll be able to take out gear from PotD to use in the main game. It's a long ass grind but it is possible and some people are saying that it can be as high as ILvL220 or 230. Also, you get main game EXP at a low rate so it's also another way to level alternate classes. If I'm not mistaken, it can also be accessed early in the game, which give content for new and veteran players to play in together and it benefits both of them.
Some of this stuff is major speculation though but it is confirmed that you can take gear out at the endgame of PotD.

I just played LoV for the first time last night.
It's meh. It's not that bad, the controls aren't bad on M+KB if you're familiar with RTSes and how Squeenix does shit. For the NPC bosses I throw out 4 Warriors of Light if they're Monsters, useful dmg skill + strength against them. Granted, I did this on my newer alt that doesn't have even half the pets my main name does so I could've probably had better options there.
The biggest problem, IMO, is selecting those "quad groups" - If you pick a 5th unrelated unit by mistake, you can't use the skill, so you have to pick one of them instead and keep them close together. It needs what SC had: The ability to set a group to a hotkey then hit that hotkey to choose that group again, assuming none died. Problem is, if any die, you don't have time to regroup them.

If a class is mediocre at anything another class does better they will always be passed over for that role. So I'm playing WoW right now because a friend convinced me to play. It's going to cost me $50 to pick up Legion in August. But the problem is that I had more fun in the 5 days I was able to play my 14 day trial for FFxiv than I've had in 2 weeks of WoW. What attracts me most to FF is that my initial character progression is tied to an overarching story and it allows me to relax about leveling because I know I'll always have a determined pace to 60. Also the end game isn't JUST doing raids/dungeons. There's a lot of outsider shit, houseing, gambling, cards, racing. I'm by no meaning of the word a casual, but I do like all the casual shit I can do to break up the monotany of end game grinding in FF. Am I wrong in thinking this? I'm just more engaged by FFxiv than I am by WoW. But I haven't hit end game in either, and WoW is in a pre xpac slowdown right now.And my char is on Leviathon, which I feel good about, such a nice ass server.
