6 was shit and heralded the deserved death of the series. Moving to a new town was a terrible mistake and the characters were terrible. Hell Star force was better than that shit. 4 is my personal favorite so I guess it should be bumped down 1 rank. But 6 was garbage.

you also have to fucking replay the game to get all the scenarios, which is a fucking retarded idea considering the gameplay isnt that good in the first place

How do I go about emulating these games on a Nintendo handheld? I want it portable and touch screen controls on my phone are ass. BN1 and 2 cartridges are like $60+ each.

Can an R4 emulate GBA games yet on an old DS, or do I still need a GBA flashcart? What's the go-to GBA flashcart?
>>
I never liked how bulky Shooting Star's Finalized Noises were in 3. Mega Man isn't supposed to be that bulky. He's supposed to be sleek, agile and win through technique and dexterity.
>>
>>342585895
DS flashcarts can run GBA games but you need to get a slot-2 gba adapter. EZ FLASH 3in1, which also adds rumble support to some DS games.

If you don't have this, you can't run GBA games on a flashcart.
>>
>>342585993
That's exactly what I meant when I asked if it were possible yet.

Is EZ Flash 3in1 the one I want if I'm going to play on an SP?
>>
>>342586065
No no, you want EZ Flash IV for playing on a GBA. There's a new version of it released fairly recently that even supports MicroSD cards.

>>342586959
Because you're poor and could only afford one game.
>>
>MMBN1: Cool at first, but I'm never playing that game again. That map is just horrendous and no dedicated escape method makes it a slog to get through.
>MMBN2: It's great. In some ways, it's the best in the franchise. All the net areas look very distinct and different, utilizing different floor patterns and having more unique setpieces. The maps are reasonable and aren't a complete chore to get through, the bosses are actually fun to battle against instead of complete piss-easy like in the first game and Styles are a complete game-changer. The battle system is refined, the chips are all overall better, the side missions are actually not bad at all and all the areas are memorable.
>MMBN3: An improvement in some ways and a downgrade in others. Battles are further refined. Individual Styles are improved with better balance than before, but it's offset by the fact that you can only have one Style at a time now, and some Styles (Custom) can be made obsolete through the Navi Customizer. The Navi Customizer is actually a brilliant new mechanic that becomes a series mainstay until 6. But the game is also riddled with flaws. Gone are the distinctive and unique-looking net areas. Now, every area is exactly the same just with a new coat of paint, reusing the same tiles over and over. The map is awful, forcing countless detours. The game repeatedly forces you to use otherwise useless Navi Customizers blocks. Spaces that would be better spent on useful blocks like power-ups must instead be wasted on pieces like Press or DarkLicense. Side quests are all very roundabout, require endless backtracking and are generally a chore to get through. Unlocking things in the postgame are especially annoying and tedious. Also, this is just a personal gripe, but tournament arcs are lame.
>>
>>342587182
As someone just getting into the Battlenetwork series it bothers me so much that 5 got a DS port but 6 didn't.

My autism forces me to play 5 GBA version.
>>
>>342587220
>MMBN4: Introduces a lot of cool new chips and refines the Navi Customizer. And that's it for the improvements. While the map is less annoying than in MMBN3's, the rest of it is an overall downgrade. It rehashes the tournament arc from MMBN3 and makes it even more monotonous and repetitive. The episodic nature of the story really gets tiresome after the second or third round. Styles have been replaced by Soul Unisons, which in this game are shit. And you have to play through the story multiple times in order to truly unlock everything. Side missions are still tedious. It's awful.
>MMBN5: Possibly the most unique game in the franchise. Liberation Missions are new and interesting, but they might start to wear on your patience a little later on in the game since the stages only get larger and larger and you have to juggle more and more Navis. Furthermore, since you can't strengthen the other Navis, you'll find them relatively inadequate compared to the increasingly stronger MegaMan. The Soul system gets a massive upgrade, becoming far more fun to fiddle with, especially with the introduction of Chaos Unison, as well as the ability to extend the number of rounds per battle a Soul can be used for. The individual Souls are also overall much better and more interesting than in 4, with the exception of ProtoSoul which is still boring. Also, Princess Pride a cute.
>>
They were almost all pretty good. 4 has the biggest most obvious flaws, and 1 is kinda rough just because it was their first attempt at it.
>>
Anyone else play the wonderswan game? It wasn't bad.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tCnpneNMVnk
>>
>>342587276
>MMBN6: Kind of a back-to-basics deal for the last game in the series. It does away with the larger gimmicks and is fairly similar to the first three games in terms of how it progresses. Everything from the past games have been refined to near-perfection (except the net areas, which, again, all look exactly the same with just different coats of paint). Lan moves to a new town and the extended cast of characters is somehow even more boring than the original set, with the exception of Iris who is actually pivotal to the plot and therefore isn't a complete waste of space like Mayl was. Souls have been replaced by the Cross System, which is completely superior in every way. It's far more versatile and allows for a greater array of interesting setups. Beast Outs also provide a delicious power-up whenever you need (read: want) it. There's still plenty of tedium involved, asactually obtaining the Crosses is honestly some of the more annoying parts in the game, and exorcising souls is really, really fucking boring.

Why is 4 hated so much yet 3 is praised so much? It has been a long ass time, so maybe my 8 year old selfs judgment might be outdated but I remember loving the hell out of 4, but hating 3 with a passion. The only good part about 3 was the undernet and beyond, Serenade, and Bass but that was it.

Hi, I'm the only good game of my series
>>
>>342587462
Wasn't his fault. I remember I had to fight woodman twice and missed the metalman story.
It's quite random.

One of my biggest turn off
>>
>>342587481
Dark Chips are awesome in BN5 thanks to Chaos Unisons.
>>
Best plot?

Best mechanics?

Best undernet and beyond?
>>
>>342587394
megaman
>>
>>342587532
I want to do Dark Mega runs on BN5 but I need good folder for liberation. Dark focused folder won't work on other navis.
>>
>>342587462

Alright, I'll collect all the mega and giga chips under two conditions

1. Tell me how to beat shademan to get his SP chip, WITHOUT using numball or any other red sun chips while saving his, or Laserman's mystery data t get the gigia chip. I'm also stuck on metalman SP because fuck.
2. Why should I complete it?
>>
>>342587532
yeah i love chaos unisons but fuck me if only capcom would have thought oh hey maybe people who play our series are autistic as hell and dont like it when their hp permanently goes down by 1 every time you use a dark chip.

They really should have implemented it where you would lose 10 hp every time you used it but would revert back to normal after you jacked out or something.
>>
On the subject of dark chips, I'm still kind of amazed they had the balls to really give them permanent side effects. It reminded me of all those anime where heroes would say "oh this attack will permanently drain my life force" but they never actually faced any consequences for using it all the time, but in these games it actually happened.
>>
>>342587572
>Best plot
I don't really care. I'll be honest, in Battle Network, most of the plots aren't that interesting and 90% of the characters bore me. In that regard, Star Force is a massive improvement. Even Star Force 2's plot is better than anything fomr the Battle Network series.

>Best mechanics
6, hands down. Cross System, Beast Out, fully refined battle system, fully refined Navi Customizer. Everything's great.

>Best Undernet
Eh. 2 had the Undersquare, which was a little boring but the BBS was fun to read. It was also the only game where the map wasn't tedious as all fuck. Plus, I felt that BN2's Undernet had the best overall feel and design. A den of hackers and illegal activity. Seeing as how the Undernet is based off the "Dark Net" and all, it captured the feel of it perfectly. Albeit without the drugs and other less-than-savory parts.
>>
>>342587572

3 3 and 3

The first two had broken mechanics. Especially the first one. There were barely any restrictions on folders and you could cheese the fuck out of the games really early.

5 and 6 had the worst mechanics, all enemy AI got significantly dumbed down and the new chips you got were basically press to win. Not to mention the forms which negate the need for chips.
>>
>>342583460
You got shit taste, dude. 6 has one of the most refined gameplay.

4 is a shitstain compared to the other games. You have to replay it 20 times to fucking get everything. It's incredibly retarded and the tournament scenarios got obnoxious. 4 was my first Battle Network, by the way.
>>
>>342587939
That's a bit of an exaggeration, and I personally feel like 5 did a similar thing that 4 did with repetitiveness, without the RNG story. I hate 5 worse than 4 and they really dragged out the liberation missions.
>>
>>342584604
Consider suicide.

The Battle Network series has one of the most unique and interesting gameplay mechanics of any video game. Literally no other game has fucking copied its battle system, which makes me sad as fuck.
>>
>>342583460
Moving to a new town could have been great if it wasn't completely pointless. It was an opportunity to introduce new characters that weren't 2-dimension Boring McBlandsons. Instead you get an asshole who's an asshole for no reason and a kid who does nothing but kiss your ass and sell you chips 24/7. It's almost a downgrade. I almost started to miss Generic Love Interest, Generic Bully Turned Best Friend, Generic Know-It-All Rich Girl and Generic Stoic Rival.

Iris was nice, though. Then again, every single time she appeared there was some meaning or purpose to it. Nothing she did was pointless or wasteful. She was the one thing that every other regular character in this franchise wasn't: An almost interesting and possibly engaging fictional character.

You're guaranteed all souls by the end of playthrough #3, no matter what. He even has all of them in his post.

>>342587653

You can get the mystery data and S rank the bosses in different fights. No need to do both at once. For Shademan, just get hard-hitting PAs and use them after you turn him into bats. As long as you beat him within 30s with no flinching, you get his SP chip.

You know how almost every game has at least one part you that keeps you from wanting to play it again? Well 3 is made up entirely of those parts. Even the very first mission where you have to go through the qualifying round for the N1 Grand Prix by looking for the X data is too much of a chore for me to bother with.

Dead on, especially the reasons for why BN2 is really the best.

Though I feel like there should have been some drawback to Crosses. For Styles, you were locked into one or two and had a weakness; not equipping a Style meant not getting those other advantages. For Souls although you weren't locked into them for a game like Styles, you needed the right chip and they lasted 3 turns; a little too harsh.

Crosses have absolutely no penalties and there's no reason not to use them, and you can switch between them during a fight. I know it's fun and all but I feel like there should at least be something to make you think twice before using one of them despite their various advantages. I mean come on, Aqua Cross lets you do double damage with all Water chips? Maybe if Crosses/Styles got stronger the more chips you had of that type in your folder; which means that it requires an investment from the player to reap the benefits.

>>
>>342607268
Star Force 1 is also a really tough game to get into. While Geo has some great character development later on, for hours he's a whiny fucking baby. Especially since SF is essentially a sequel to BN it's easy to compare him to Lan and get really disappointed. The first game is just so slow, so basic, and boring.

By the 3rd game I think it really finds its own place, but man.
>>
>>342607268
Starforce is fine I had fun with it, but not as the continuation of BN. I need BN gameplay dammit.
>>
>>342607268

starforce would have been perfect if they tweaked BN's gameplay in a better way. The story and characters are miles better than BN, but the gameplay is a huge step back
>>
>>342607973
They should have done so much more with the 3D perspective instead of just using the grid system from BN. Having you crammed into 3 blocks in the back row is just a lazy way to design a battle system without creating much new.

>>

>>
>>342609541
No.
Blue, Sun, and Colonel are canon.
The differences in White, Moon, and Protoman are non-canon.
We know this because of several major and minor references in later titles; Blue and White have different color schemes for the buildings and landmarks, for example, but Blue's remain in both versions for later titles.

I just wanna say that one of the better aspects of BN was the re-imagining of Classic series bots as Navis, the re-imaginings were often really neat and cool to see.

However, I'm not sure I can forgive BN for ruining Protoman. He went from having the best design of the Classic series to probably the worst design of the BN series. Take away his scarf, make his shield situational, give him Zero hair, a retarded sword and that stupid fucking yin-yang symbol on his chest, and put a sundial on his head because apparently the nigga is always forgetting what time it is.
