FFXIV is great fun if you like Final Fantasy and themepark MMOs. It's focused on good boss fights and has a legit good typical Final Fantasy story that only got better with Heavensward. Gear is very boring though. Nothing has set bonuses or special abilities, it's all just getting higher numbers and playing dress up with Glamours. Endgame crafting was also some serious grindy bullshit last time I played.

Fightcade does not support the UM versions of 98 and 2002, which have more characters, improved visuals and remastered soundtracks in addition to rebalances. Netcode is fine, it's just easier to get people into it with standard matchmaking and steam friend invite games.
Fightcade is great for arcade releases like Garou that can't be played elsewhere but the steam versions of KOF are really great. No issues with the ports.

XIII is also solid but seen as a weaker entry than the other two standouts. much smaller roster and more limited movesets, but it has a rich story mode and lots of little features and customization options.
Still really solid and very pretty but it was hurt by budget constraints and the decision to go with sprites. Yuri's moveset in XIII is piss compared to 2002UM for example.

R6 is already dead online, and what players are left are just hackers that Ubisoft refuses to do anything about. Campaign was okay, but just felt like a giant generic cover shooter instead of a real tactical FPS that Rainbow Six had pioneered.
DOOM's campaign is fantastic, but the multiplayer is kinda shit right now, although id has claimed they're taking control over it and planning to fix a lot of the design problems to bring it up to par with the campaign. Plus it's a game that's only been out for a month or so at a sizable discount (especially since older AAA games are barely hitting 15%-20% discounts)

I never have a problem getting a match and I'm in Australia. I'm sure there are more players in America. Ubisoft are now permanently banning hackers on first offence and there is an anti-cheat system, fairfight.
There is no campaign. Situations are training for multiplayer. It's a multiplayer focussed game that is what CS:GO wishes it was, with less focus on shooting twitch skill and far more reward for good positioning, tactical sense, and communication.
It has highly destructible interior environments allowing attack from any angle in some situations. It's like a small scale BFBC2 in that respect. There is a roster of attackers, defenders, each with unique skill and loadout, and you make picks. Upgrading/customising weapon loadouts adds value.
For value over time I'd recommend R6 easily. Very worth $30, for the whole game and not the shitty p2w starter edition. Doom is a fun 10 hour campaign and that's IT. All over. Multi is absolute shit. I've already put 46 hours in Siege playing casually for 3 weeks. It's a good game.

My personal favorites are Empire/Napoleon, Shogun 2, and Rome 2. I'd say Shogun 2 is easily the best one to start with. It looks good, runs well, is really fun to play, and is easiest to learn because it's very focused on the basics of swords/spears/archers/cavalry and the campaign map is probably the smallest in the series so campaigns are generally shorter and more manageable.

I've been playing on PS4 the past couple weeks because it's free on PS+ this month and while I don't really follow the NBA that much I've been having a lot of fun with it. Don't know if the PC version is a good port or not, but the game is definitely fun. 2k17 should be a lot better though, there are some frustrating things in 16 that have already been pissing me off involving the AI in career mode and the way coach grading works (literally getting deducted full letter grades for every minor fuck up, including shit your braindead AI teammates do yet doing things well and scoring only gives tiny increases to the grade so that often I'm lucky to be at C or C- by the end of a game which affects how much money you make to spend on stat increases and shit). Overall it's fun though and if the PC version is good, definitely worth checking out.

Modders really shaped up the two old games. Improved everything like grafics and dialog and combined them into one humongous game (Icewind Dale was planned to be included into the saga as well) but the modders got the CAD and that was the end of the story. If you can find the mega-mod today in some dark corner of the net then it sure is a lot better to get that rather than EE. Beamdog could learn a few things from Bethesda.

I don't think it's technically a mod. It uses the Source Engine but the same way games using Unreal or Unity use those engines.
They got Valve's blessing a while back basically as a "Hey we're probably never gonna remake HL1 again anyway so go for it" and let them charge for it.
