SFV, even tough GG sign it's an incredible game to get started since it has a great story mode, plenty of single player and amazing tutorial mode, the onLine is kinda dead since revelator launched.

Guilty Gear is great but there's no point in buying the one on Steam because it's out of date.

Skullgirls was my first serious fighter. I recommend that, because even though it's been out for a long time it's constantly getting updates and the community is good.
Depends on what type of fighter too, SG is your regular fighter with stick motions, if you're looking for limb based, go for Tekken; and if you're looking for simple/quick executions, go with MK.
