>D44M is number one best seller on steam

I thought you guys said it was bad?
>>
>>342539321
Idk but I just bought it today cuz it was on sale and I'm having fun blowing demons into bloody bits while death metal plays in the background.
>>
Most steam users dont have standards.
Hell most people here dont have standards.
>>
>>342539321

Nah, most people here seemed okay with Doom singleplayer.

Its pretty great.

Even the multiplayer is pretty damn fun in my opinion
>>
>>342539561
Rather, my standards are so high that the modern casual consolefags can't understand why someone would find the whole design of D44M revolting.
>>
>>342540248
D44M is great faggot.
>>
The single player was good and surprised everyone.

The multiplayer was outsourced and shitty, and that's all their marketing team showed off.
>>
>>342541041
iD took over multiplayer now though, so it should become god tier in the coming months.
>>
>>342541229
Can you stop this fucking meme? Yes, they will work on new content. No, they wont remake nudoom into quake multiplayer.
>>
>>342539321
People only said it was bad before they played
Then all the noise died down because people realized it was actually pretty good
The rest were just shitposters and people who wouldnt be satisfied with anything but a 1 to 1 remake of the original
>>
>>342539321
The multiplayer is bad, the single player is where the game made it's worth.
>>
Not baiting, honest question I have:

Is there a singleplayer FPS that has been released in the past five years or so that comes close to Doom4 in terms of speed, challenge, enemy/weapon diversity, etc.
>>
>>342541949
I don't want it to be Quake Multiplayer, I enjoy it as is, and new content sounds awesome.
>>
>>342542228

I liked Shadow Warrior, but its definitely not as good.
>>
>>342539321
play multiplayer. Beth launched MP beta and people HATED it. Turns out MP is developed by a separate team and id only make SP. And SP is pretty good.

Doubly funny, because Beth banked on MP with season pass. And no one gives a fuck about this shit.
>>
>>342542268
>>342541229
id took over PC multiplayer. Old team still develops MP, id just tries to fix netcode and cheaters.
>>
>>342539321
Sales aren't an indicator of quality.
But no, majority of the people who say it's bad are just John Romero samefagging. The Singleplayer is pretty fun.
>>
It is a better sequel to the old Doom games than Dark Souls 3 was to the previous Souls games, and that game is a serious rehash.
>>
>>342540248
So what games does a faggot like yourself play?
>>
>>342539321

>>
>>342542862

>>
It's one of the worst FPS games ever made. It's everything wrong with the FPS genre. It retroactively makes Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 look like a good game, which is a miracle because Black Ops 3 was complete shit where you shot endless waves of enemies for 10 hours.

single player is pretty good, the complaints are valid but over exaggerated
multiplayer can be a little fun, but is grossly imbalanced and is mostly frustrating because there are so many game designs that clash with each other and make it a hot mess.
also the victory poses are almost all retarded, feel out of place (same goes for armor and gun customization), and look like they were mo-capped by a gorilla.
>>

Singleplayer is great.

People hating come from a bunch of different sources. Some are just trolls, others just hate these types of games, Some just hate for haterd sake, but most are just bitter. Hateful to the world and the fact that they cant enjoy video games. Dont kid yourself with their suggestions, They dont actually play them, Its games they used to enjoy before they let every issue destroy their experience. Your instinct is better than any advice you will get on this site.
My suggestion is just find someone who seems to like the same stuff as you. Look for recommendations of things you like and look at gameplay to make your own opinion. Dont listen to the buzzwords and choose what reviews to listen to wisely. There is nothing that can keep you from getting screwed over better than just being informed

Which is why most of the backlash was toward things that sound bad in concept but were actually great, like climbing in Doom and glory kills. Because pirates didn't actually play the game. They just watched people play it. And based off that convinced themselves that the game wasn't worth playing. They need that reasoning because if they ever considered that pirates might miss out on content available to paying customers then they couldn't justify their elitistism.

The game uses too many resources to be modded. Maybe in 5 years or by some impressive leap in technology, new hardware will allow it to be as configurable as the original, but the way this works Bethesda will have released D55M, and people would had forgotten about this, for what is worth I am glad bethesda decided to make the season pass about MP stuff than can be ignored, for a moment I thought they would be smart to release this game equivalent to "Thy flesh consumed" along with new assets, or simply DooM Ep 1 fully redone in the new engine, or anything I would had liked to purchase.

Also if FO4, or D3 are any indication, the current user base literally never played the originals, so what they do have to complain about. The game itself is fun, I might pick it up at the end if there is really nothing else but DLC.

I mean what are you guys buying? I simply have DLC for Pillars, Shadowrun, and Endless Legend left, and I barelly play those, so it is between that or D44M.

That reminds me to shit on ubisoft support because while it runs the divion was well, better cards do nothing for it because Massive has the fucking draw distance set on a aughable limit. Watch a GTX 1080 run in on ultra 4K and still look about the same as a 750ti due to the way it draws objects.

Doom had plenty of moving floors, they were just restricted to function only as elevators, crushers, bridges and floors that sink into lava because of engine limitations that limited their movement to only up and down and prevented any two objects being on top of one another.

As soon as the developers were able to overcome those limits and make floors fully 3D and able to move left and right, they went all out with the design concept as evidenced by the level design in Quake. That's a good example of building upon a game design rather than regressing it.

Were there even any instances of usage of elevators in the many combat arenas Doom 4 had? No. They don't mind borrowing jump pads from Quake III but they can't even follow the basic designs of the original Doom, let alone build upon it like the original id Software did with Quake.
>>
>>342555115

>>
>>342555780
The demo is probably the worst example to go by for the gameplay.

It doesn't really get ballbustingly hard and if you're collecting secrets and upgrades you will eventually trivialize most encounters.
Then they give you Rich get Richer and armor from glory kills

I did enjoy the game however, but I wouldn't really call it too difficult unless you're playing on Nightmare, but at that point it's just punishing instead.
>>
>>342548353
well you should probably do that regardless
>>
>>342553608
Yeah, that's why we'll never get classic FPS level design* again. It's not because sprawling levels that change their layouts on a massive scale is really impractical to design, make and render while sticking to the current standard for AAA graphics or anything.

*The sort we keep getting more of on a daily basis out of Doom .wads anyway
>>
>>342555265

Jump pads are like elevators, but don't slow down gameplay by making you wait for them. I'm really not sure what you're bitching about, Doom very rarely used them in combat areas, and when it did they were generally pretty annoying. Also you're really overvaluing moving platforms. They're nice and all, but they don't really add much. Again, they got pretty annoying at times. Its almost like new Doom learned from the mistakes of the past.
>>
Singleplayer is fantastic. Never tried multi, but I got my money's worth with SP alone.
>>
>>342539321

>>
>>342555115
mp will probably never be completely redone but marty stratton already confirmed classic deathmatch is coming, and he also acknowledged feedback about people wanting playlists that disable hack modules and demons (the two things that ruin five out of the six currently existing playlists), and he said they could make playlists without that stuff. Additionally bot support and private matches will be coming soon so I'm thinking people could even make duel with that classic mode
>>
>>342556567
See, that's all I need, the gameplay is all there, now it just needs those modes and it'll be perfect.
>>
>>342556567
Unless Classic involves stupidly fast movement or bunnyhopping I don't feel like there's much point to Duel.
Item control would go like this: Down player goes to take item, Up player contests item, both players are slow master chefs, Down player loses fight on account of being the Down player.
>>
>>342557137
>Item control would go like this: Down player goes to take item, Up player contests item, both players are slow master chefs, Down player loses fight on account of being the Down player.

Except for you mentioning speed this is basically how Quake has always played out at high level.

Being the down player has always been a huge disadvantage.
>>
>>342557137
Well I believe classic deathmatch in snapmap actually speeds you up considerably over the default mp movement speed. Strafejumping apparently is in the engine but can only be enabled through the console, at least that's how it was in the alpha. I imagine custom matches will allow strafejumping. Only real problem is that most maps are just going to be stupid for duel. Infernal, Heatwave, Helix, maybe some others would be fine. Disabling powerups and the demon will be needed as a custom match feature of course
>>
>>342553923
Yes, the grenade boxes you see instantly finish the cooldown
>>
>>342555265
>Were there even any instances of usage of elevators in the many combat arenas Doom 4 had?

Yes, in Argent Tower imps come after you as you're going around the ring that bounces up and down.
>>
>>342557307
The mechanics in Doom would still make it even harder to avoid the already pretty snowbally dynamics of dueling since the MP character isn't really agile enough to dodge much of anything. There's skill involved in hitting/avoiding getting hit in Quake but in Doom if both players are just decent at aiming way too often the fight is just going to come down to who can take more damage at the time.

This is why they should have opened the second level, not the first. The first is much easier from pistol start.

I went with reach+faster glory kills+better grenades for this reason. It's too easy if you take the best runes.

There's more to moving floors like I just mentioned, it's not just elevators.

And jump pads are not exactly like elevators at all. People so obsessed with "muh fast" when talking about Doom really do the games a disservice when they just talk about speed because there's more to the games than that. Having to wait for elevators gives your actions consequence. For example, I had a very interesting experience in a Doom 1 megawad I was playing a few weeks ago which really highlights the way moving floors and elevators can make varied and memorable encounter design. In the encounter, a couple of barons were firing from an elevated platform. They were restricted to that platform so I just evaded their shots and ignored them while I blasted away at the other enemies. After activating a switch that progresses the level and opens up access to an elevator, the platform the barons were on lowered so they became free to roam about and come after me. I still chose to ignore them because I didn't want to waste ammo on them and ran for the elevator to take me out of there. As soon as the elevator reached the upper floor, a bunch of former humans and a demon greeted me. I prioritized taking out the shotgunner because of its dangerous hitscan attack and let the demon rush me. Because of that, the demon was able to get close to me, step into the elevator and trigger it to go back down. The barons I avoided earlier and completely left out of the equation had been waiting at the bottom of the elevator. I was panicked and was unable to make a quick decision and take the less riskier option of running past the barons and out of the elevator instead of staying inside. The barons stepped into the elevator, triggering it to go back up. Stuck in the elevator while it's in transit, the barons and the demon were able to make short work of me. There's no way that experience could be recreated with a jump pad.
>>
>>342558297
You have a point. If the movement speed is increased, that issue could be avoided. Still, making comebacks in duel really can be done with smart play, prediction, a little bit of luck maybe, I don't think DOOM duel would be quite as simple as those situations you are suggesting. I mean custom matches and classic mode are coming probably next month so I'll personally find out very soon
>>
>>342558332
Why does it seem like enemies have way too much trouble actually hitting you or that you're actually anchoring them down magically with executions? I also noticed Revenants just don't seem to be anywhere near the threat they were in the original DOOM 2.
>>
>>342559273
They made up for it by making Pinkies and Barons more annoying,
>>
>>342559273
Enemies in Doom 4 aim at where you are, not where you will be.

Revenants don't have slow lazy homing rockets like before, and their damage is not nearly as high or as random.

Think of the enemies like how they are in Doom 1, the enemy selection mostly just aim AT you without a lot of variety in shots where they aim around you(Mancubi), repeatedly shoot at you(Arachnotrons) or homing(Revenants) and having them set up in ways to sort of make it hard to dodge.

Not that Doom 2 took very good advantage of their new enemies though, the community is what made the enemies really shine

>There's no way that experience could be recreated with a jump pad

That's not true, I had a hell knight slap me into a jump pad which sent me straight into a mancubus. Generally the only unique gameplay elevators make is waiting.
>>
>>342559273

Revenants don't have their homing shot, and enemies don't lead you anywhere near as much. Super noticeable with mancubi. Also you can jump out of the way of thing.

Game tried hard to be fun, a lot of the game felt like "oh this is the moment where I'm supposed to feel like a badass" and it was fun yeah.

Like getting trapped in a corner and rummaging through your inventory and remembering you had a bfg? yeah that shit was fun.

It's just a lot of the game was player created fun like ruins and shit. Some of the level design was well done, but fuck nothing really struck me as clever or memorable. Game just kind of washed over me when it was done.

I think the biggest problem was that it lacked polish or any feeling of developer touch.

I had a choice between chancing the elevator to go back up again before the barons could step in or run past them in a tight squeeze and risk getting mauled on the way or pressed up against a wall. The choice between the two is ambiguous and both decisions have significant consequence.

Just being knocked into a jump pad and into another enemy and jumping away again is a brain dead decision to make. You've been running from enemies the entire time in the game, you'll just do what you've always been doing.
>>
>>342561041

You are really, really overstating the difficulty of your decision. It is no different than suddenly finding yourself catapulted into an enemy. Come on man, there are a million ways for you to suddenly be confronted by enemies in a level and have to choose how to get away. Stop pretending elevators were some kind of unique piece of level design.
>>
>>342560945
Yeah, it also doesn't really feel like I could just pick it up and replay it like I do with classic Doom due to the story and lack of modability.

The scenario you described only involved jumping away again i.e. distancing yourself from enemies like you have always been doing in the game. It's in contrast to making a risk-vs-reward assessment and deliberately getting in close to an enemy to achieve a better tactical position. I don't know why you're having such a difficult time to understand the difference between the two.

BIG QUESTION

I know you PC gamers love FPS on PC, I do too.
But at this moment in life I don't have the funds.
My PC is outdated yet I enjoyed the game on PS4.
I spent more on my old PC but my PS4 can run DOOM unlike my PC.
I really wanna play it but PC can't but PS4 can.
So I'm on board with playing DOOM with PS4 rather than PC which I rather, but can't.
Should I buy it for PS4?
I mean it'd cost more to rebuild a new PC just to play this game.

Do you really not understand what that other anon is saying? With the elevator scenario, you have certain degree of probabilities that you have to compute at breakneck speed, while also introducing into the equation risk-reward analysis and game theory. It makes for an incredibly complex and intense experience.

With a jump pad, you just fucking spam buttons.
>>
>>342562436

Doomguy is a major softy for anything that's not evil. Did you forget his love of bunnies in the originals? Also, take notice of how gently he handles the little dolls he finds. He's the kind of guy who'd go out of his way to help a brother out, while thinking nothing of ripping a bully in half.

The game is extremely mediocre through and through.

I get why you wouldn't like it, but you can't say it's objectively bad. If you enjoy Halo and D44M, you'll enjoy the multiplayer. I personally love it and I'm pretty goddamn adept at it too. It fits me like a glove.

I ran through it on insane. It's a solid game but it felt like it had too many modern elements. You could tell what they were going for, if anything, but they fell short. Weapons don't feel like they have enough impact and even the dash mechanic doesn't make it feel very fast. It's not bad for what it is but it feels lacking.
