I don't really disagree with that.
I like zelda better when it's about the gameplay, exploration and being able to infer a story through setting and atmosphere not having my hand held by a companions telling me everything.

The next game will have the same storyline as OoT's, but with a new twist on the gameplay!
Minimal story with decent amount of lore that adds to the atmosphere is what we need. LttP pulled it off perfectly.
The Zelda games with the most plot still have about as much plot as an episode of a children's cartoon, padded with some quirky NPC interaction to make them seem like they have more.
I dont think he actually ever said that about Zelda. Mario for sure, but not Zelda.
