Depends how many of your soldiers are near that area. Keep in mind outpost captains and those captains that sneak in and steal keeps "drain" the area of recruits if there's only a little of them, and unless you weaken them your NPC partners will never kill them. It only really makes sense to do it if it's around 10 seconds of running at best, and that's only if the area in general has a small amount of enemies, if it has a huge amount they'll basically just hold out and then get taken over.
