Okay, since the Steam sale is fucking shit, what are some good freeware games?
I'll start: Dwarf Fortress
>>342504332
Transcendence
Iji
To me everything is freewareeven your mother
Clean Asia
Allegiance

>tfw there was a thread last night, and you played a game with /v/
Tribes RPG
Cho Ren Sha 68k

ĐiệnWorlds

Dubloon
Command & Conquer: Tiberian Sun
>>342505527
Oh yeah, that open-source version also covers Dune 2, right?
Bastard Bonds
Oolite
Phosphor is a pretty cool proof-of-concept shooter that you can play online
http://www.rasterwerks.com/
Robostrike used to be a pretty active strategy game until it went dead. Still playable if you have buddies to join with, though.

SS13
OpenTTD
>>342504332
Date Ariane and Something's in the Air
Ib, The Witch's House, and Mad Father.
Gotta get some obvious ones over with:
>Cave Story
>Spelunky
and maybe a not-so-obvious one:
>Liero
Almost everything on this list can be easily found for free.
Elona
Freecol (if you can stand micromanagement)
Stone Soupemulators are free
Ballistic NG
it's basically wipeout

Elona is great. Coming from playing Western roguelikes, I thought it would be boring, but I was surprised about how deep it is.
>tasty static
skyroads clone

>>342507213
Not that that game doesn't look cool in its own right, but the name had me hoping it was a sequel or successor to Ballistics

Plebs on /v/ nowadays are often so quick to dismiss freeware. Yes, there are lots of commercial projects that have polished graphics, etc., but it is often in the freeware titles that you find the most dedication and passion. After all, most freeware titles are certainly done simply because the dev had an idea and wanted to make a game - with ideas completely unadulterated by market pressure or "audiences."
>>342504698
Hero Core as well, that guy makes some good shit.
Tales of Maj'Eyal
>>342508747
I like Sil better, but ToME is so good, too.
>>342508136
Yeah, it's often brutally hard, though. Great game.
Has he made anything recently?
Also,
>tfw in your last playthrough of Iji, you max kick as soon as possible, and go through the entire game kicking enemies
ADOM
>>342504797
More people should play Cactus games.
>>342507992
ABA Games has a number of highly gratifying shmups. Torus Trooper is an insanely fast tuberunning shooter--only game I've ever seen that's as fast as Ballistics!

And Faster!
>>342504468
I could never figure out how to progress past what I assumed to be mid-game.
Has the creator of IJI made any other games?
>>342510230
ABA/Kenta Cho is great. I especially like Tumiki Fighters and Gunroar.
As for cactus' games, in addition to Clean Asia, I really liked Shotgun Ninja and Burn the Trash. The Mondo games are very strange - worth it for the experience, but not my favorite. I like his experimentations in the SHMUP genre, and puzzle platformers (like Psychosomnium).
>>342509407
Kicking was how I first played the game. Was probably the most boring method, but I still enjoyed myself.
He joined a group and sold a few games on Steam: Muri, Card City Nights and that Zelda rip-off block puzzle game. Muri was the only one I really liked, but it's short.
Only freeware he made recently that I can think of is that Hyper Princess Pitch, which you can beat in about half an hour (pretty fun though).

Hero Core
Hyper Princess Pitch
>freeware
>almost every game is either pixelated as shit, confusing as fuck, or both
>>342511042
git gud
>>342506063
>tfw no one hosts servers anymore
>>342511181
I played with /v/ a few months ago. It was really fun.

Liberal Crime Squad
Anyone remember the RPG maker action game Pokemon the Evil Inside 2? Sucked so bad, but when I was younger it blew my mind.
REPOSTING
Red Eclipse.
A FREE and open source fast paced arena FPS. Has a parkour system (i heard that it was similar to Titanfall, but i haven't played it). Every weapon has two different shot attacks (you can even use a sword).
The game is like 5 years old and it's currently in 1.5 version.
It has a small but nice community. But right now, almost all the great names had left (all of them grew and now started working) and just play every now and then. So i think it's the best time to start playing for new people.
I pitched an idea to the creators about creating more gameplay videos to attract more people (because the ones on youtube barely showcased the gameplay capabilities of this game), and i made two draft videos with some gameplay i recorded in a couple of hours. So please don't judge them harshly (WATCH THEM AT LEAST AT 480P OR 720P 60 FPS, they look disgusting on lower res).

Fun fact. Microsoft used it to showcase a technology they were working on:

You Have to Win the Game
it's pretty fun.
There are some Megaman fan-games that I played.
Rock Force
> Not only do you get a weapon from the robot masters, but you also unlock a different member of Mega Man's newly assembled fighting team to play as.
> Plot is kinda dumb.
> Robot Master visual designs are shit. A couple of them are DOS-tier in design.
Super Fighting Robot
> Kind of a re-telling of MegaMan 5. Different bosses, but it's kinda fun.
> Weapons are pretty good.
> Again, boss design is dumb here too. Lookin' at you Trash Man.
Mega Man Revolution
> Mega Man and Bass are playable in this.
> Levels are too damn long and there's too much bullshit in them.
> Lots of weapons, some unique to Mega Man and Bass.
> Boss designs are lazy rip offs of old robot masters.
> Music is terrible.
> Play at your own risk.
Mega Man Make a Good Level Contest
> FeastYourEyesOnPerfection.jpg
> So there are decent levels...
> Lazy levels.
> Broken Levels.
> Bumblefuck Retarded Levels.
> Actually good levels.
> Weapons brought back, balanced out a bit. Sheep Man's weapon actually is useful for instance. Top Spin isn't a suicide attack... at least not as much of one.
Marathon Trilogy
