i played platinum demo for the first time today. i liked it. it was cute. i particularly enjoyed going around the giant mansion as a midget knocking over toy blocks in my toy car. shit was comfy.
the combat also is way more fun than i thought. from the gameplay i assumed it was on-rails-do-nothing like FFXIII but its actually more like an action RPG.

But it isn't working in my eyes. It's not like FF7 or 8 where the designs are modern but have an anime dystopian flare to them to make them work in the world they're in. This is literally just taking things that exist in our world and plopping them into a fantasy world. This isn't just a settings and vehicles, even the choices for the armoured enemies make no sense. They're going out of their way to make this world look like ours in terms of technology and design but they have guys in full on platemail using submachine guns. Even other FF games with more modern designs would make armoured soldiers look like modern day soldiers.

He's chancellor of Niflheim, their whole scheme was taking over the Lucis crystal and throne, since Iedolas is retiring from political shit that's why we see Ardyn since he's next in charge.
Ravus is the only one seen talking about the plague of the stars and he is seen commanding a Niflheim soldier.
Everything about Ardyn is extremely obvious, it's a red herring to make you think he is the main villain but the true one will be Ravus. Him being Luna's brother only increases his importance to Noctis and Luna too.
There is only one thing I like about this game: The summoning animations
That's not enough to warrant spending any money on it or playing it. Characters are horrible, combat is horrible.

There was barely anything to get gud at and the demo was easy as piss, m8. The air combos and whatnot that people kept raving about were easy enough to do, but that doesn't keep the combat from feeling sluggish as hell and extremely unsatisfying.
The ravage combos are a good example of this. They keep saying that you can tap the button instead of holding it, but the inputs are not timed with Noctis's attacks, so you're better off just holding. I don't see the point of having the option to tap when it isn't done well.

First of all, you're undermining your own point. You imply that it's not just XV that's bad, but several games before it. That means that XV is NOT singlehandedly responsible, nor perhaps even majorly responsible, for the decline of FF.
Secondly, I have (some) faith in a return-to-form for FF specifically BECAUSE of XV. Call the air-car retarded, or the camping homo, or the open world needlessly huge and lifeless all you want, but those things are all signs that Square have started focusing on what makes FF great again -- immersion and worldbuilding.
I don't even care of XV is a mediocre game. Just the fact that they're investing at least SOME effort into making the world feel real and alive again gives me hope.

FF1, 2and 3 were TB, pure turn based but they all had differences in their individual systems, FF1 has you choose four jobs out of 6 and later you advance those four to master versions. FF2 had you with preset characters and you advanced a character by doing different commands over and over to improve them. FF3 had the first job system where you change jobs four your four party members
Then FF4 introduced ATB introducing time based menus and systems to FF, 4 was ATB with preset characters. 5 was ATB with an advanced job system, 6 was ATB with special commands per character like Sabins blitz and magicite. 7 was ATB with 3 members, limit breaks and materia. 8 was ATB with the draw system and GFs. 9 was ATB with the Trance system
Then 10 ditched ATB and used CTB instead, no longer time based but instead strict turn based but now with stocked turns so different from 1-3s TB system, had overdrive system, also removed the world map and airships.
11 they ditched CTB and was RTB the first real time FF and an MMO, so was 14 but a different version of the system, both have job systems
12 was ADB which mixed ATB menu with real time movement, had to Gambit system for AI party control and a job system
13 was CSB and was stacked commands in an ATB system, move pool split into 6 with the paradigm system, no world map or towns
15 is AXB which is first fully real time action RPG system, phantom sword system, ring and environmental magic and weapon switching system, taking cues from ADB and having a system similar to Gambits, a menu for party commands, an ATB charge for party members and limit break like system, bringing back the world map, kingdoms, towns, vehicles, airships, crystal based story with royalty, setting being a mix of 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 and more.
And every single FF has a different world, character, story, etc. FF has always banked itself on constantly changing and never standing in one place, that is Sakaguchi's definition of FF.
