It really depends on how you think the "show" is being filmed. I think that because in episode 2 you see the puppets restrained and wearing metal helmets, this could lend credence to a matrix style situation, especially with the computer and being able to create dancing singing objects which don't seem to exist in the real world. Also since Duck comes back briefly as a teacher, and Red Guy is alive despite his mind being blown, and Yellow Guy dies and such, I think the people on the show aren't real physical bodies.

Based on dialogue, they all die at least two times each. Whenever they try to interact with something, it gets them inadvertently killed.
There's also tons of weird hidden shit in every episode.

I would have ended it at 5, and maybe changed some things about 4. 1, 2, and 3 stick to the concept set out in episode 1 just fine. Episode 4 and 5 go a little off the rails but it's in keeping with the tone of the previous ones. The last episode was symbolic of the creators feeling it was starting to get contrived. The song is half-assed, and Red Guy in the real world is symbolic of just the general boring public. Red Guy takes his interest too far and tries to force it into being a thing, but fails. Then he starts messing with the buttons and Yellow Guy has to experience the old characters as well as new ones, each growing more and more contrived. This reflects the fact they felt things were wearing thin. Then when he pulls the plug, everything just repeats with color swaps. This represents the fact that if they kept going they would just tread the same ground over again.

So Red became a soulless corporate drone who hates his life so much that he would rather return to the ignorant, brainwashing days of his childhood.
Yellow guy pretty much became Roy, who's a take on... NEETS or mentally fucked up disabled people, I guess. He developed a poor grasp on reality, which is why we see him present in both reality and the childrens' show simulation.
Duck died by following all of the media's bullshit for years (like consuming unhealthy food) but by the time he realized his mistakes and how bullshit the media and society is, it was too late.
Is it safe to say that the series represents how the media affects children into adulthood, with the three main characters being different individual results of the media ruining their sanity and eventually their lives?
