Its a pretty big departure from stuff like unleashed or adventure or generations. I think some of this stuff and the overall kiddy feel of the game was intentional because it was a wii u exclusive and they were targeting the average nintendo fan ie little kids. Its not a direction I'd want sonic to go in but for a one off nintendo game, its fine. I forgot it but when you mentioned the bosses I remembered those sucked to. At least they could be done in 2 hits with a level 3 homing attack so it went by fast

Not him but it was mediocre, the levels have some obnoxious gimmicks a lot of the time, the run button and controls in general are stiff, shit physics.
Parkour is nice but a lot of levels don't actually make use of it, and it really needed way more depth at that.
Also level design was pretty shit, and I don't really like how the world looks. A visual step down from Colors, really. Not to mention it was trying to harp off the classic feel, and failed horribly.
Storywise, I feel everyone was kind of at their worst, Tails was on the rag, Eggman and Sonic's banter was weak (Eggman was getting shat on way too hard, and Sonic was too jerkyalso I just don't like Smith, he makes Sonic sound like a jerk in general, and the Deadly Six were boringly cliche and unmemorable.
And music was pretty meh as well. There wasn't really anything outstanding in it, which is terrible for Sonic.
All in all, I would say the game is a solid 5/10 (to me, isn't bad but means the game could have had a ton of more work and time put into it.)
Sometimes I would rather Sonic games get delayed for years if it meant they didn't come out so half-assed feeling.

I like the gimmicks and controls. The spin dash can be used effectively for speed running i feel and being able to stay at one constant speed when doing more precise jumps is really helpful. Refer to tropical coast act 2 like I said on those small island platforms.
The parkour is wonky in 3D but it works pretty smooth in 2D, couldve used some more tuning but it obviously wasnt a big priority nor was the game designed around it so it gets a pass. Its a little unwieldy but still very usable
Level design was a little railroaded but still fun and completely different from the previous games. I like how simple it is and gives a big feeling of being stuck in a dream/some fantasy with all the floating and upside down water and shit.
Youre right on the story and characters, I hated that shit too. Smith is my least favorite sonic too, jason and ryan were way better. Completely disagree with the music, i thought it was fucking mesmerizing. It doesnt sound like traditional sonic music but it really helps paint that fantasy land/abstract world that the game takes place in.
I think a 5/10 is pretty harsh for what is a simple platform but thats fine if you think that m8
