Let's settle this.
Which one is better, tank or mech?
>>342380345
as long as its not a hover craft tank, walker.
mobility > speed
>>342380345
let's see which is better;
>tank,a military vehicle with artillery grade firepower & can go at high speeds
>mech, a walking tank that has better firepower than a tank & has better mobility
>reality
tank
>videogames
mechs are for weeb children, tanks are for grown ups
>>342381317
>mech
>has better firepower than a tank
>has better mobility
Source?
>>342381567
not him but if you question the mobility part, Im sure you dont understand why we walk on 2 legs then aswell.
>>342380345
Tank, since it's
>faster
>cheaper
>easier to mass produce
>higher cost-to-efficiency ratio
>>342381705
Why do we prefer to use vehicles instead of our own legs then?
check mate, atheist
>>342381705
You walk faster than wheels?
Tank beats Mech, but Mech does what a Tank do, but better except Anti-Armor.
>>342381909
>mobility means speed
uh
>>342381878
>Why do we prefer to use vehicles instead of our own legs then?
Spot the amerilad :^)
>>342381745
>easier to mass produce
This part wins wars. This is the reason why soviet tanks beat german tanks in WWII.
>>342382113
And the fact that they were under supplied.
And the russian winter.
And the whole with fighting at multiple borders at once.Who am I kidding, fucking t34
Assuming we talking about real life and not just bf2142 gameplay
the walker would essentially trade mobility for durability. it wouldn't take an absurdly powerful weapon to damage a joint of either leg, rendering the whole thing immobile.
And when I say mobility, that's all it is, mobility. The ability to traverse steeper, uneven terrains. We're definitely not talking about speed here, something regular tanks would be much better at.
Source : I graduated top of my class of the Bullshit Officer Training School of the Faketown USMC Military Base.
>>342380345
Mechs could have some use in crowd control and urban warfare and maybe some role in horrible terrain, but tank is just more robust, less complicated concept with less change to get fucked up by over engineering.
Or maybe this whole question is a trick?
I'll answer tank that transforms to a mech.
And what about the civilian vehicles?
>>342382465
These things are amazing, shame its hard to try it if you dont have a friend/company with one.
>>342381745
Tanks were none of those things when they were first introduced in World War 1, so thinking that a mecha will be any of that at the start is stupidity.
>>342381317
>mech, a walking tank
>>342382452
>it wouldn't take an absurdly powerful weapon to damage a joint of either leg, rendering the whole thing immobile
Same thing with hitting a tank on the treads, yet everyone is willing to overlook that part.
>>342383048
The exposed part of modern tank treads offers much less area than two big T H I C K walker legs
>>342383048
Break a tread, the tank is stopped, maybe. It can also still shoot.
Break a mechs leg, it falls on its face and is useless
>RL
tank, the idea of walker is absurd
>vidya
walkers all the way
>>342383048
If a tank loses a thread, you've got a bunker until it's safe enough to go outside and repair it. If a mech loses a leg, it's a pile of scrap once it hits the ground.
>>342382912
>Treads are for bad roads
Yeah just look how German tanks could easily travel along the eastern front
Fucking Kojima
>>342383310
it loses it big selling point if being a a heavy mobile firepower. Might as well use artillery instead
>>342380345
Power armour beats both
If both have the same tonnage, the tank would win hands down as long as the mech can't jump.
The only mechs that would actually be superior to tanks would be basically giant super acrobatic humans like Jehuty or Snufflesophacus.
youre a fucking mongoloid autist if you think the answer isnt tank

Mud and swamps is bad news for anything that doesn't fly. Even Genghis Khan had to detour because of it.
>>342383810
That's a big tank
>>342380345
Tanks were better in 2142 so...
>>342384258
For the Emperor nothing but the best.
Also that's a scout tank.
>>342384236
Still doesn't change the fact that Kojima should pick up a book or two.
>>342380345
why was BF2142 the best battlefield
>>342384415
I said "that's a big tank"
Walkers would be better in certain situations but honestly a tank walker hybrid would be more feesable than a tank.

Well. An Armored core from for answer could beat any tank in any game. So my answer is mech.
>>342385023
I don't know how bf4 is but I couldn't stand bf3's netcode and bazillions weapons that mostly feel the same.
Just give me a few, wildly different but solid weapons with little customization per loadout and I'm good.

Yet they refuse to make another. They just go backwards in time hoping everyone likes it.
>>342385290
>I don't know how bf4 is but I couldn't stand bf3's netcode and bazillions weapons that mostly feel the same.
You would hate BF4 then. There are so many fucking more guns it's retarded. Yet people only use a select few.
>>342382896
Tanks were still better at their job than the conventional ground AFV of the time, the armored car.
That's why they built and used them. Because right from day 1 they were better than what they already had at the task they needed doing.
If a mech can't compete with normal vehicles at some niche right out of the gate, they'll never be made.
Assuming every problem with real life mechs are solved, I'd say mechs. Mechs have a better view of the battlefield, they could probably carry more specialized weapons than tanks can, they're more imposing to enemy forces.
But drones beat them both, so it's not really a question anymore.
>Which one is better
When it comes to real life warfare, tank. Mechs don't even exist IRL, excepting the Kurata.
When it comes to videogame fun, mech. Tanks can only roll and shoot. Mechs can jump, fly, shoot, melee, which makes gameplay more varied.
It ain't that hard, man.
>>342386002
What about a drone tank controlling a mech?
>>342386215
It's like you haven't even watched Gundam Wing. They lose to teenagers every time.

>Mechs have a better view of the battlefield
install periscope, get all the advantages of being tall with none of the drawbacks. 99% of the time, you want to be short when people are shooting at you.
>they could probably carry more specialized weapons than tanks can
Why? There are tanks with regular cannons, autocannon, missile launchers, machine guns, hell, even a few with all of those at the same time.
Most just come with a big cannon and machine guns because those have been tried and true optimal "take all comers" weapons. a big cannon can penetrate just about any armor, and can have a variety of shells for different purposes, while a machine gun can kill anything not worth throwing a cannon shell at.
>>342386667
No. Gundam Wing made it clear that in order to have a warrior's spirit you have to be risking your life and if you don't have a warrior spirit you'll never beat someone that does.
Somebody post that one anime webm where a squad of tanks shoots down like three or four mechs down from the sky like it's nothing.
>>342380345
Tank
>cheap to mass produce in comparison to mechs
>not as versatile armament wise but can be easily fitted for the situation
>generally faster on terrain
>tech is fully understood and is easy to repair and maintain in relation to mechs
Mech
>lots more options for weaponry due to "slots"
>lots of complicated moving parts that would require a lot more maintenance
>legs are a critical weakness
>better at navigating uneven terrain
>should be generally slower threads>feet
>would very likely be cost prohibitve
Mechs are cool but are generally impractical in real life, in a real war scenario it would just get swarmed by anti armor tanks/infantry and vehicles and be a huge fire magnet for aircraft
tanks are a smooth ride anon.
Imagine the extra effort that has to go into a mech just to make sure it doesn't disorientate and/or kill it's pilot by just walking.

based on what? tanks can't trip over themselves, roll an ankle, or sink 4 meters into the ground because your 200,000 ton mech only has 2 teenie weenie feet to disperse all that weight.

Fucking amazing. Got any more?
We all know giant mechs are not viable
but how about power armor?
Battletech makes Mechs practical, but in the setting the scale is fucking huge (transporting 12 mechs and pilots is easier than shipping an army through space), and the mechs themselves are the only platforms large enough to tote around the fusion generators that power them (which means they get way bigger and nastier energy weapons than conventional vehicles).
But yeah beyond that mechs don't really confer a lot of tactical advantage if we're talking real warfare.

Power armor where we're actually going.
Over the history of modern war, more and more money has been spent on each individual soldier, and the death rates of individual soldiers have dropped accordingly. It is mind-blowing to me that if a single soldier dies overseas, we hear about it on the news.
There's already powered exoskeletons being developed to assist soldiers with heavy lifting. Actual power armor will arrive eventually.

>>342389671
You're right. Mechs would be completely outclassed.
about the railgun problem
"The Navy’s futuristic electric cannon, or railgun, received yet more hype this week for its ability to fire a shell at up to 5,600 miles per hour, and do it far more cheaply than a missile. But there’s a daunting reality behind the hype: the Pentagon is already looking past the railgun to a less power-intensive, more easily deployable alternative. The railgun rounds can be fired from more conventional cannons, giving the same capability sooner and cheaper."

>>342389397
You can put all our weapon systems on trucks or tank/tread bodies. It is a concept of Zerg. Lose one, only lose one weapon. Lose a mech and just go fuck yourself right off planetside.
The mech argument has a real shot in hell of working when it isn't trying to compete against tanks but instead is playing some heavy infantry variant.
But we all knew that.

I prefer tank over mecha because inside tanks, there is something mecha don't have.Friends.
If we ever get mechs then I think they'd probably be slightly larger then human sized with a focus on mobility. Something like the Walker Gears in MGSV or Bastion in Overwatch. They'd be used for urban combat, clearing rooms and enclosed spaces where it'd be dangerous or impossible for the enemy to take them out. Right now room clearing pretty much guarantees that the first man in is going to get shot, hopefully in the plate and not the face. If they sent in a hunk of steel with a few guns on it and the ability to deal with stairs and obstacles, then the terrorists would have little they could do against it. Cant use anti tank weapons in an enclosed space unless you want to kill everybody or at least receive horrible blast injuries, and from the stuff Boston Dynamics has been showing us it looks like tripping or knocking over one of these would be pretty hard. Maybe if they had some very heavy gun in there that could pierce the armor and hit something vital, but the military is really good at redundancy and bulletproofing.

Tanks. Mechs the way we think of them are the dumbest idea ever. They are essentially easier to hit tanks that are nowhere near as maneuverable that also cost a lot more. A mech may potentially have better mobility, but again only on a more standard ground environment. What a fucking waste.

t. history pro
Someone give me some good tank games
I'm sick and tired of having to play for a month to unlock a single tank without paying in War Thunder
>>342395985
What's mech role then?
>>342395783
I think power armor/walker mechs ala Lost Planet 2 would be useful for dense areas such as jungles and cities. Maybe you can make a case for underwater combat but that's unlikely going to be useful. Other than that tanks and other traditional military vehicles will do the job.
>>342385004
>That pinpoint accuracy on the guard tower
Fucking Christ I'd hate to be infantry in this day and age.
>>342395618
Should I have said you make DC comics look reasonable instead? Cause you're that shit. Bottom of the barrel trash.

>Not posting best traitor titan that made Collegia Titanica shit bricks n lose most of titan battlegroups, literally forcing them to kamikaze tactic.
>>342395830
Don't you greentext me slut, mechs are practically the definition of cool
>Those Girls&Panzer webm
What the fuck I don't remember the series being this awesome
>>342381705
I'd really like to see wheels evolve.
>>342396264
Being in a tank isn't much more fun when you take a look at high-end AT equipment.
At least you can hide as infantry but everyone wants your ass dead when you're in a tincan
>>342380345
Tanks are practical and cool.
Mechs are fucking cool.
Rule of cool is stronger than realism in fiction.
>>342396337
Stay mad faglord
>>342396353
>>342396529
>mechs are cool
"no"
>>342396472
Yup, a tank is basically a mobile coffin if you're up against half-decent forces.
Zoids are the most realistic futuristic mecha the human body is flawed
>>342380345
Mech can carry a giant Katana.
Mech > Tank
Now they need to make a tank with a Katana gun, and it spins its turret real fast and slices other tanks and mechs in half. Only way to make tanks better.
>>342396548
Calm down.
>Only recent tank games are F2P multiplayer only garbage
>pretty much no recent mech games
>Space sims still dead, and the people trying to revive them keep trying to make massively multiplayer online only universe simulation shit like E:D and Scam Citizen.
niggas please. I may be autistic enough to want those genres, but I ain't autistic enough for this shit. Give me missions with customizable loadouts and I'll be happy.
>>342396652
It'll take more than that, chummer.
Tanks, easily.
Playing Armored Warfare, the highest tier tanks have shit like 1000mm of fucking penetration from KILOMETERS away. What in the sweet fuck.
Also, they can fire goddamn missiles, thermobaric rounds, etc...

The US has never lost a modern battle tank.

Air superiority was a mistake, we have to turn back time

Slow mechs are basically retarded and tanks can fill the same role as them, yes.
Mechs flying at twice the speed of sound while having the ability to stop midair or even land on any type of place is a completely different beast and tanks would have no chance in hell against them.
Before starting this kind of thread OP should at least specify what kind of mech he means.
>>342396916
>The US has never lost a modern battle tank.
>>342396916
The U.S. isn't the only country operating tanks.
>>342396924
Yeah, battleships should come back so they can get raped by fucking ballistic missiles. We're already outfitting destroyers with railguns. We don't need battleships.
>>342396652
Are you some kind of favela child, who grew up not knowing the joy of robot fights?
I'm sad for you honestly
>>342397065
>Mechs flying at twice the speed of sound while having the ability to stop midair or even land on any type of place is a completely different beast and tanks would have no chance in hell against them.
Yeah, but if your mechs can do that, why wouldn't your tanks not be able to do the same? That's always the argument with mecha shows, if the mech has bullshit super-advanced tech, then why don#t the other weapon systems as well?
>>342397275
>wasting ballistic missiles on battleships when you can just fuck them up with a plane

I thought one of the main attractions of naval railguns was that you don't need to haul around a magazine of potentially self-destructive shells.
What's the point of firing them conventionally then?
>Tanks vs Mechs
Mechs should only fight other Mechs
>>342396472
In a city, a tank is a deathtrap, sure.
But in a city, being infantry is a death sentence. Infantry take higher percentage losses than armor in cities. Having armor on your side in urban combat dramatically increases the survival rate of infantry.
A tank can basically lock down an entire street in front of it, with relatively little to fear from man portable weapons. To engage it, the enemy has to get to it's sides or rear or top. Urban terrain makes that very easy to do when vehicles are driving around unsupported, but when moving slowly with the infantry, it makes enemy moves really predictable.
>Tanks
>Mechs
Gunships.
>>342393221
It's almost like threes a type of Tank in space or something.
I think it's called a "Space Ship".
>>342397586
Nein, ich kann nichts für meine kaputte Tastatur
>>342397574
I did and I just told you that a BM is wasted on a shitty battleship that can't do anything to you anyway
>>342380345
I like both.
>the tank squad in muvluv that would go in knowing they were nothing but Beta chow
>>342397757
No, my orginal post was about battleships. It contained the words 'Air superiority was a mistake'. So both of your arguments, about bm's as well as planes are kind of retarded
>>342397893
Just because you post the "X was a mistake" meme means I'm not allowed to call you out how much of a waste a BM against a BB is?
>>342397075
>Tank literally has an iraqi flag painted on it
Really, nigger?
not that the US hasn't lost a number of Abrams tanks, mostly to buried explosives.
I think the strongest statement you could make like that is "The US has never lost a complete Abrams tank CREW to direct enemy fire"
What about a tank that turns into a mech?
>>342398081
Do you have mental deficiency? I didn't make the post about bm's you mouthbreather.
>>342397691
I think the Russians gave a perfect example on how to fuck up immensely with tanks in a city and I'm pretty sure it was Grozny during the First Chechen war. If I was gonna be in a tank I'd only get into it if it was NATO driven.
>>342398162
what about a mech on a tank
>>342397574
I ready
>Battleships
>Bring back
And that was enough. Battleships are fucking done as a concept.
>>342397465
Yeah, because that thing won't be defended by other ships. Anti-ship missiles or torpedos are actually preferred over just sending an aircraft.
>>342398220
Not sure how you expected me to know that
Anyway allow me to respond properly then
>Air superiority was a mistake
No it wasn't, and just because you like jerking off about shitty outdated ship designs, your opinion isn't worth shit
