Votoms is hardly a mecha anime. It's mostly about the development of the mc and the mistery around him. Mecha are only there as tool of war and that's why Votoms is one of my favourite anime. The battle tactics of the mc are smart and I enjoyed it a lot.

but the way the game plays seems totally fine, i actually like the combat a lot, and the customization, and the dialog options.
framerate can get a little janky but that's not uncommon.
Steambot chronicles is just so ambitious with the insane amount of customization, and a pool minigame and all the areas and like 10 rythm minigames for different instruments.
it just blows my mind.
also i got lucky and got it used for 8€ while it usually goes for 30€ used.
guess the price is a good reason why very few people played it.

The VOTOMS PS2 game would have been even more perfect if it had a Mellowlink segment in it, since it did have AT Rifles and on foot parts in it.

The point is that whereas Gundam is all about who has the best superpowered prototype mecha, and then who gets the next superpowered prototype mecha, and everything that isn't a superpowered prototype mecha is completely irrelevant, VOTOMS instead has mass-production death traps where the only prototype mecha's features are being slightly faster and getting a blue paintjob. It's much more focused on characters' piloting skills and the tactics Chirico comes up with to defeat opponents, and Chirico goes through dozens of units throughout the show.

The thing is an action Front Mission game isn't even that bad an idea.
Front Mission is ripe for an action style game, the way Wanzers skate around is never fully realized in the strategy games and there is a lot there to work off of and because Evolved was so bad people have come to the conclusion that it was bad because it wasn't a strategy game.
It was bad because fucking double helix can't make a decent game to save their life and Sqeenix just farmed out the franchise without a care in the world.

Demon's Souls basically ruined gaming for me, since nothing since has been able to recreate the highs and lows and overall experience.
MGS gets a lot of shit, for some reason, but I always felt like it was the best game of its kind. The only games I've played that are really comparable are the Syphon Filter games.
Same with Armored Core. Some of the Gundam games are similar, but there's really nothing, that I've played, that's quite like AC.

Underrated as fuck, pretty solid with alternative endings depending on how much you kill or don't kill, attitude of the main character and her voice line change depending on how much you kill or don't kill where she goes from having a distaste for killing to enjoying it.

A game very alike Super Metroid but underwater and with comfy music. Exploration based, great (in my opinion at least) design when it comes to environments and has plenty of secrets and stuff to find. You can "Cook" by mixing ingredients together and get food that has different effects, from healing to raising max stats I think. You switch forms and do different things through "Singing", which is basically playing notes in certain orders to do things.

Legend of Grimrock 2 is better than the first one but both are enjoyable experiences that is a love letter to old-school dungeon crawlers. Simple but satisfying gameplay and you can choose between various races and classes when making your team.

Imagine a cross between Super Metroid and Indiana Jones with the difficulty and puzzles raised to the roof. That is La-Mulana which is a solid singleplayer experience where it's recommended you got notes to write shit down on. This game will treat you like a goddamn fucking explorer and if you do the mistake of not writing shit down and drawing the various symbols and images you see, you will get stuck. This game does not hold your hand.

You roll a ball through a course while building structures to inhibit your opponent from doing the same to while in between. The single player is short, but a pleasure to play with a surprising amount of variety and INCREDIBLE music, as well as legitimately funny jokes about famous pieces of art.

A lot of what the others said isn't a bad idea. The UC stuff is great in terms of more military/political stuff.
0079 the show drags like a motherfucker. It's not "the legendary 0079" that people think of anyway the franchise didn't get fuck huge until all of 0079 got split into three movies. Watch the movie trilogy version it cuts out a lot of the stupid shit from the show, is a quick watch, and is the real culturally important show based thing to come from Gundam.
Zeta Gundam will feel slow as shit in terms of the general plot moving. But within a lot of that compression you get a lot of character development and a stupidly large amount of subtle political themes (like I know most people often don't even notice it but the show very subtly has A LOT of political stuff.) Thus more a character/political piece rather than one moved by the plot, and it works in the weird way it does here because the show has a lot of characters and it goes in-depth with all of them.
ZZ starts off kinda goofy and is thus the weakest from the original stuff because of how directionless the earlier episodes feel since they don't compensate such slow plot moving with the density of Zeta, but in the second half of the series when shit actually happens the tone changes completely and is worth watching for that.
Then the final piece in the set of the original UC stuff is Char's Counterattack movie which rounds off the main Federation and Zeon and Amuro/Char aspect of what the previous shows established. This movie had a far larger budget than even most modern anime so while the graphics themselves look more like their time, the animation is next level cool stuff.
After those four, if you have determined that you enjoy UC stuff, I would personally recommend:

In terms of non-UC stuff there's a variety of stuff.
If you enjoyed the overthetop aspects of G Gundam, Gundam Build Fighters is the anime for you. It's basically the Beyblade or something of Gundam where they use their gundam model kits to fight other people. But since storywise they are models in a simulated battle setting, they get away with really cool fights.
If UC feels too old fashioned for you, you can maybe watch the original Gundam SEED which is more modern but not as dense as UC stuff and is more cliche anime.
If you want OP as fuck super strong borderline super robots of G Gundam but with more serious stuff, there's Gundam 00.
If you want a far more different premise compared to other Gundam shows, there are Turn A Gundam and After Wars Gundam X.
And for an alternate retelling of certain backstory aspects of 0079, there's the OVA from last year Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin.

After this company released not only one of the worse Gundam games, but among the worse games of all time with Gundam Crossfire, the chances of this game coming here like that one was more or less zero. But shit, Bec learned from Crossfire BIG TIME. Fantastic customization as there should be for a mech game, with a great online play system, and most importantly probably the best simulation of Gundam that exists because of how the mechs and the gameplay in general feel. Cool Gundam story, too.
