I made $32/hour when I was 15, because I was *technically* doing a job designed for adults, but local council just put teenagers in the job. Then they found out I wasn't allowed to do it until I turned 16, so I was given even easier jobs inside for the same pay until my birthday.

I hope you're joking, but:

>Australian purchasing power parity is 166% compared to USD; the currency exchange is not 1:1 in terms of AUS value because of a weaker currency
>24.3% BPE tax rate compared to the US 12-13%
>Australia is one of the few nations (along with Brazil, Canada, etc.) that has not verified some Digital Dissociation Law that clarifies the opportunity shipping costs should not apply to online downloadable items
Blizzard has nothing to do with it. If you want the state of affairs to change, appeal to your legislative body instead of crying on a video games board about why foreign goods are so expensive in your socialist country.

Compared to America we actually have fairly low tax rates, where someone paying a marginal 25% in America they'd pay an effective 20-22% in Australia. Even at its highest our taxes range from -5% to +10% on Americans highest taxation bracket.

Obviously there are goods taxes and other such things to consider but im tired of Americans memeing like every country who isn't them or has public healthcare pays 90% of their income to the govt, or that they don't get raped on their taxes like everyone else.
>>

Cry all you want:

>>342352493 has already explained to you that your nation enforces a trade-shipping tax on downloaded games because it doesn't have laws like the UK/US/nearly every other county that protect you from paying too shipping costs on online media. If you hate it so much, complain to your parliament instead of blaming others to convince yourself it's not your nation's fault for overtaxation.
>>
>>342352556
Minimum wage is easily worked around sadly.

I'm 28 and earning $15 an hour, they get around the minimum wage using fucking loopholes like they are "technically" paying me minimum wage with super or some shit but in reality, I'm walking away with $15 an hour.

<21 there is no minimum wage at all, when I was 20, I was working on $5 an hour for a major retail outlet.

Also cost of living in retarded in Australia compared to the US, when I was in the US last, everything cost like 1/3rd the amount it did here.

There are other taxes beyond personal income tax and strict industry regulation by the government will always lead to increased prices.

I'm not familiar enough with your country to say exactly why it costs more there, but the idea that it's le greedy business men is ridiculous. If they are so greedy, why not charge more in the US as well?

Income tax is different than trade tax. Particularly in your country where online items that can be downloaded without shipping & handling are still taxed like they are.
>>
>>342353515

Which is why i also posted
> Obviously there are goods taxes and other such things to consider

My point is i see Americans shitposting about our 'outrageous taxes' when really our taxes aren't as big as people make it out to be, even when it comes to non-income tax stuff the only real area we get stomped on is tobacco and alcohol.

Yes there are other issues at play, but i see Americans constantly posting about our taxes and not knowing shit about them, but assuming they must be massive because public healthcare and more welfare.

>>342353990

I know we have higher / different taxes, but im just trying to do away with the meme that Australia is some 90% triple taxed shithole just because it's not America.

I'm not a stupid /pol/tard that believes "hurr durr Australia is taxed cuck 3rd world nation". I know it's just a modern country like any other.

But there is no reason to not have a Digital Dissociation Law. Your government only continues it because it brings in more tax revenue, and fucks your online sector in the process.
>>
>>342354484

That's a fair point and part of the 'other such things to consider' i mentioned. This all started as a response to "Check your taxes you shitstain." This isn't some treatise arguing against DDLs / changing our taxes, its just to point out for some uninformed people out there who believe the meme to maybe take a second look rather than parrot retarded shit like 'but ur taxes' and nothing more.

Yours has been the only salient point in this thread when it comes to actual discussion and not just generalization of "Taxes" which is probably the broadest topic possible for modern economies.
>>

>>
>>342354963
Anyone not a retard knows what he was talking about. Why would you talk about income taxes when the discussion is about the cost of a video game? Obviously trade taxes are in effect here.

You're just looking to pick a fight with Americans. Best way to 'fight the memes' is to not go into a blind rant when it's not about that. Just makes you look dumb.
>>
>>342351489
I dont understand you retards, why not just order or buy a key from some other country or shop if your government fucks you over?

Better yet why even play a game where you can get banned for banter.
>>
>>342355462

In this thread we are all Australian
>>
>>342355729
>Why would you talk about income taxes when the discussion is about the cost of a video game?

Because i constantly see misinformation posted and don't want it to sit unchallenged so misinformed people think it's correct? Because boiling down like two dozen different topics under the blanket term 'Taxes' is retarded?

From the start i've made mention of goods and other forms of taxation and their relevance to the discussion at hand, but when someone uses the blanket term "Taxes" what most peoples minds go to is income tax. You're doing the exact same shit you're complaining about me doing right now by ignoring the fact i've mentioned, from the start, different forms of taxation and the importance of not discounting their relevance.

It's all well and good to say everyone who doesn't think like you is a retard and not worth correcting / informing them, but fact of the matter is there are shitloads of uninformed Americans spewing flat out lies about Australia and other countries with different tax rates, and 'they're retards and don't matter' doesn't do anything to stop the cycle of people saying retarded shit and other retards parroting it because no one steps up to call them out.

From the very first post in this thread i've not been talking about the actual topic, but rather the perceived difference a lot of Americans believe for no reason other than lies / idiocy.
