What does /v/ think of Resonance of Fate?
>>
It's a pretty cool game that no one really talks about. But any discussion i do see is usually civil and mostly positive.
>>
I wish they remade this game to HD.
Finally a weeb game with some fucking focus on guns.

Valkyria Chronicles can only last so long...

Should I buy this game /v/? I'm trying to tide myself over until ZTD and my xbox is just sitting there.
>>
>>342322341
I would recommend it. It's one of the most fun and unique JRPGs I've played. It has a decent amount of customisation options with outfits, guns and the combat feels rewarding. The characters and story are good too.

It should be fairly cheap now for the XBOX as well.
>>
Fun and I like the characters but it has some terrible artificial difficulty
And I'm not talking about the statue mission, that's a walk in the park compared to the end game
>>
>>342321089
Great game that got overshadowed by the hype machine that was FF13.

Sega are truly their own worst enemy, releasing a new JRPG IP just a week after the most overhyped game in a decade.

>>
its a flawed gem, def worth a play, the repetition ultimately drags it down, even though the gun-fu shit is pretty cool.

the setting is neat as well, and the characters are likeable and have some goofy chemistry. In the end its an overlooked little gem if a bit flawed, like infinite undiscovery was, imo.
>>
>>342322341
The intro drags rather hard, but it's pretty fucking badass if jrps are your thing
>>
>>342322571

How long does it take to beat?

I've owned it for about 5 years but I never invested the time because i assumed it'd be a 30 hour+ JRPG.

My first time playing took around 80 hours, but it's possible to run through it much faster if you know what you're doing.

When I first played the game, the main dungeon in chapter 14 stumped me for like 6 straight months, I shit you not. Couldn't even get past the first room or two because the enemies would shred me in fucking seconds. Eventually I figured out how to Tri-Attack and got gud at using Hero actions to stay out of harm's way while using special ammo types to deal damage and now I feel like a total master of RoF's combat, though I haven't cleared all the difficulties.

The problem with more HP was that you lost more Bezels if your HP hit 0. Yeah 5,000 HP is better than 3,000, but when you only have 7 or 8 Bezels that almost instantly puts you in panic mode. You have to balance your level growth with how many Bezels you have.

Strong Week!

Its not a casual friendly game but its fun and strategic. Some of the guns don't have gold versions and it looks odd when pairing. I didn't like how enemies would always respawn in rooms you cleared already. At least only do that when the player clears the story portion of the map first.
Speaking of story it got lost in translation, but the ending is open for a sequel actually. There's a vampire angel in the game so who knows what others lurk outside Basel. A whole new outside world is shown as the credits roll as well.

Not that guy, but I remember using this for the clothes as well. IIRC you bought two items to make a B Scope and then sold it like two levels below to some woman who would buy them for 4100 or so.

Making the scope costed 3000, and she bought them for 4100.

/v/ can hate popular things and love things nobody else likes. i think this game was boring, looked cool but you get bored very fucking quick.
>>
>>342331529
Combat system ia pretty cool. Your turn is either stand in place and shoot, do some repositioning, or pick a location and shoot at enemies while running to it in a straight line. Enemies have a core healthbar you have to drain but also radial Armor pieces that act as smaller healthbars. Which armor you hit is based on your position, so if you can maneuver to a side of an enemy with no armor you can do damage easily. However, special attacks require Bezels, which only regenerate when you kill an enemy or destroy a piece of armor. Since enemies have lots of health you juggle between attacking the core for damage and destroying armor to keep your bezels up. For example, basic gangsters have a hat for armor that is very weak, so if you shoot eqch of them from the front you can remove their hats and gain a bunch of bezel ls back.

Stuff gets interesting later when you find enemies where the armor has ten times more hp than the core, or their armor gives them extra attacks when broken.

There's a bunch of other systems too involving juggling, team attacks, grenades, damage types, and splitting health bars.
>>
>>342332586
I loved the game, but I can absolutely see where you're coming from. It takes a while for it to pick up. But when you get a rhythm going in some of the later boss fights, it's just so damn satisfying.

One cover conveys character-driven action/shooting, while the other seems to be
more environment/dungeon/labyrinth-centric, possibly a puzzler or platforming.

Both are pretty shit desu family. But at least the western cover shows the highlight of the game so the consumer can determine if they're interested or not. The Jap cover would make a badass poster or store display, but not an advertisement for the game. It's like the cover of Ico.

Yeah, it's pretty cool. RoF feels like a PS2 JRPG in a lot of ways when it comes to the presentation, but with PS3-level visuals. There's tons of little details like that that they didn't have to do but did anyway to give it a little more flavor.

Also, the trophies awarded for story progression link together to form a vertical panorama. To this day I've never seen any other game do anything like that with the cheevo system.
>>
>>342321089 (OP)

It was great.

Became a bit repetitive towards the end, but the gun customization system had enough depth to keep the gameplay enjoyable. Seems like the world should've been larger, a bit more explorable, and, with some more secrets.

Would be nice to see a sequel which expands on the orignal system, adding more flexibility and possibilities to it.

If Tri-ace gets offered the chance to make it happen though. Realistically, it doesn't seem likely.

I loved that so fucking much. I want to platinum the game so much. Remember the trophy you get once you load 1 terabit of data from the game disc? That was unique too.

Got the game two weeks ago.

Is it me or does the game's combat feel needlessly complicated?

Or is it just the tutorial?
>>
>Artificial difficulty out the ass with difficulty spikes at random
I remember having the game be a breeze until the chapter where shield-toting human soldiers popped up and I couldn't progress past a single room. I had to grind AP rounds at the Colosseum to cheese it
>Story and ending makes no fucking sense and has no weight even after multiple playthroughs
>Really shallow combat system where eventually all you do is spam hero actions to get max charges
>Extremely linear everything
>Too much fucking grinding
>The mechanics are learned completely by Chapter 1 or 2 and you basically get nothing new in battles after that, its just a case of repetition

That said, I still love it despite all these glaring flaws that usually make me hate a game. I loved it so much I even platinum'D it. It's stylish, it's comfy as fuck, the characters are likeable even Zephyr in all his edgyness.

>vertical picture
>load a terabit of data off the disk

>trophy for clearing a NG+ has a "thank you for playing!" message from the devs
This game probably has the best implementation of achievements/trophies I've ever seen. Even if the "get a star rank on every arena mission" is tedious as all hell.
>>
>>342338083
How far are you in the trophies?

>>342338161
There's a lot of meat to it, but it's not supposed to be played without thinking. You need to strategise and pay attention to the surroundings. I will say that the Bezel system is a bit broken though. Once you lose all of them, you're essentially fucked.
>>
>>342338161
It is complicated, you will probably think it's unnecessary at the first chapters since they are easy, but once the difficulty curve gets you you'll find out how useful everything is.
>>
>>342338235

So generally, 360 has more DoF, Bloom and glare effects on object, whereas PS3 looks sharper and seems to have slight AA and some stuff like buttons on clothing and Leanne's sleeve seem to be smaller for some reason. And then, randomly one or the other has better textures in some places. And one of the cogs in the background in front of their home, in the top left is instead slightly further to the left.

That's really odd.
>>
>>342338397
Really, It's just a case of grinding, grinding and more fucking grinding. Get the accessories that increase EXP gained and keep doing some of the earlier colosseum battles to buy a shitload of armour-piercing rounds. At the end I had I had some of the "battles won" maxed out while the rest only had 3 won so I can access the next tier.

It will take you fucking ages, I took it slowly over the course of a year because remember you need to star every single colosseum battle too. That's 10 or so fights every tier. You need patience.
>>
>>342338398
Yeah, surprisingly the game isn't that weeabooish. It's one of those rare few games. I'd like a sequel to ROF, but I'd hate it to become a cliche anime style game if they did. It's truly a unique game.
>>
>>342338470
>What's this one? Is that old man the one you see around town?
The old man is the leader of the rebels, you know the ones that are mentioned in the guild missions, he seems retarded in battle but can pretty much one hit kill anyone he attacks, pretty fun fight though.
>>
>>342338283
>>342338390
Guess i expected an easy to plow through game.

Also, how the fuck do you do a Tri-Attack?

The tutorial does not explain this shit well.
>>
>>342338161

Go through the tutorials and experiment in the arena. Eventually, it should click. It takes some time to get adjusted to it.
>>
>>342338629
I've started linking terminals for a exp farm ever since I got my ass kicked. Does your level and gear carry over to NG+?
>>
>>342338679
Sweet. How do you fight him?

>>342338691
Don't worry, it's not just you. First off, run a character between the other two and get a "Resonance Point" (Ithink that's what they're called). After that, press triangle (on the PS3 version) and attack. Make sure you have reasonable distance between each character and you'll do it. I couldn't figure it out for so long because it was described badly.
>>
>>342338679
>one hit kill
No he doesn't
I was level 100 with all 3 and it was pretty easy
>>
>>342338691
When a character passes between the other two in Hero Action, you gain one point. You can use that point to do a Tri-Attack which involves the characters each running to the others' positions in a line. However if you build more points, they'll keep running to the next spot, and you can have a longer Tri-Attack going on. But if you move a character manually at all, or cancel someone's turn, you lose all points. So the trick is trying to pass through each other to gain points with only Hero Action, while also making sure it leaves everyone in good spots so that a Tri-Attack can actually be effective.
>>
>>342338691
Found this on >gamefaqs (don't blame me, I played this game a long time ago and forgot most of it and google gave me this as the first answer)
Perform a hero action in which your path will go through the theoretical path of another party member. Take no action other then running or jumping and this will result in a charge. You can stock up to three charges. Once you're in a triangle position with your characters, think of it as a baseball field and their position being bases. Press the Y button to map out the tri-attack, and the X-button to initiate it. Once you start running the mechanics work the same as regular shooting. For each charge you have, you'll run to the next "base", at three charges you'll do a full lap.

>>342338873
I think you have to do all the rebel mission, it's almost at the end of the game

>>342338883
Well I remember that you can run circles around him but if the manages to catch you he hits like a truck, can't be quite sure, haven't played it in a while.
>>
>>342338873
Also, remember these too:
>You can switch characters during Tri-Attacks
>Ideally, form a big triangle shape with the characters to last longer
>The more RP you get, the more rotations you get
>>
Played like 80 fucking hours of the game but still didn't finish it. The difficulty was just too frustrating in the end.
>>
>>342338763
Yes it does as long as you stay on the same difficulty and yes I forgot about EXP terminals. Link all available ones to the arena and you're set for the grind.

The difficulty bit is ridiculous, there's like 8 different difficulties and you're expected to start from scratch every time. That's 8~ slogs. WHY

>>342339035
Tri-attacks were the win button
If you hold out enough to charge 6/7 of them and just go SMG-SMG-Pistol you were pretty much assured a win
It's how I played the entire game since chapter 5 or something, when you get enough bezels to charge it up a lot and then you just have them start running around like maniacs

You don't really need dual if you mod it good enough, but it helps if you don't. What you do need though is leveling SMG on two characters to max level so it will stun on full attack. This will make game a cakewalk, as it works on anything and everything, including bosses.

Another good advice is learn tile connection and connect juicy +xp and +drop stations to the arena, so you can easily grind there.

You should be able to stack the points to get more rounds in a single tri-attack.

That, and initally use submachine guns to debilitate the HP bar, follow it up by a character that deals regular gun damage.

I'd suggest you have at least one character with a decent submachine gun level.
