I played fallout 4 as my first fallout game. heard all the good things about fallout 3 and new vegas so I actually went and bought them, and holy fuck is it clunky to play. every single time I want to loot something, the game pauses. dunno, i thought about it and all the repair system did in the other games was that you either carried around more of the same gun or used different guns until you could repair.
think they shouldn't have made repairing guns so trivial, like just walking up to somebody and buying them to get it back to full health broke the system in a way.
in 4 even with the ammo perks, i constantly ran out of ammo and had to use different guns because of it, until i got a settler as a merchant, then that problem was gone too.

In a way it's a good thing, but I wouldn't have removed it entirely, I would have reworked it.
Instead of your weapon breaking flat out, only parts of it break, the same part on another weapon may break faster or slower depending on what the weapon is and how it uses that part, weapons would only become unusable if a core piece to using it became broken.
Like if you block with a fireaxe, the shaft will become damaged and will be unusable when it breaks, but if the edge breaks first you can still use it as a weapon though much less effective.

If you understand the skill system in how it was implemented in 3, it was basically a threshold.
Like nothing happens if you have 24points into a skill but if you have 25 BOOM something happens.
4 basically removed the threshold of having points that didn't do jack shit because they were alittle from the threshold.
The problem is that some skills in 3 gave you small % bonuses that the specials also did but the skill supplemented those more.
I think that sort of perk only system in 4 could work very well, the perks they added are boring and repetitive and that system would require alot more diversity and just alot more perks.
Dunno if i'm the only one but from a modders perspective i don't like the perk chart, i don't see custom mods fit well into it at all.

But other than that, I had an idea the other day for a better skill system in Fallout.
Instead of having 1-100 points in a skill when every skill check is 25/50/75/100, every skill has a total of 5 points that can be put into it, you get a select number of points to put into any of those skills at character creation, you never get to decide those skills again.
Skills will work similar to how they did before, some dialog checks will show up requiring 1-5 in a skill, and weapon damage/handling will be tied to SPECIAL instead, but you'll get some new benefit to being spec'd into a weapon skill.
Perks are tied to skills and SPECIAL again, but every perk is tied to a rank of a skill(s), multiple perks can share the same skill ranks, whatever you chose at creation is what perks you're going to have for the rest of the game.
Every level you pick a perk, every 2 levels you pick a SPECIAL to put a point into

There's a quest revolving around robots, it's kinda funny but it bugged out for me several times and i had to repeat it one too many times.
Otherwise i don't recall you being able to repair robots like that, there's a dlc that adds robot customization but it doesn't look goo at all.
I have Morrowind too and have never launched it, have seen the combat system and it looks like hot garbage, the dialogue and quest system is bad(not the quests but the system).
Morroblivion should fix those issues and that might be the right call, dunno how well the mods for actual Morrowind do to fix those systems, you might want to check out nexus for that before starting a game up, some of the retextures and shaders look great.

Skills are in skyrim and they work the same as they always have in TES, when you go to your "perks screen" as you might call it, you'll notice that every perk is on a tree named something, that tree has an experience bar. That tree is a skill and they work the same way they always have, just now you have bonuses you can choose for those skills, leveling up your one-handed without picking any of the perks does give you more one-handed damage, and so on with other skills.
But of course neither of you would ever know any of this because neither of you have ever played skyrim or any elder scrolls game for that matter, don't try to bullshit me on this subject because I have been playing these games for years and know far more about them than you ever will from reading posts on /v/. Especially beginner shit like this.

i think a hybrid system would be better, one that combines the fallout 3 system with skyrim's progressive learning system.
You set your specials at the start of the game, skills are put in normally but instead of getting skill points when you level up you get them by doing the skill thing more.
If you shot with guns more you'll get better at that skill, if you use medicine more you'll get better at that skill and so on.
That way you'll have a start system that respects roleplaying and a progressive system that you'll have to invest in before you can go 100 into everything.
You could put a hard cap on it and say, okay, the max amount of points distributed across all skills is 1000(as an example), that means that if you level up other skills, you'll get worse at something else to compensate.

He has places like Vegas back in Arizona. Two Sun, for one.
