Past Phantasy Star Online titles never really performed as well as they could in the West (despite having a very strong fanbase), and since gaming is all about the money these days, probably not worth Sega's time to bring it out and support it separate from the JP version. It would be countless updates behind and mismanaged as the rest of the online Phanta titles, which is saddening.

They're intentionally streamlined to focus on going fast. That being said there's still plenty of segments where platforming, alternate paths, and even a bit of exploration is important.

I tried getting into Generations, and I do like it, but it's too much o a stop-n-start kind of game. It rewards memorization of the stage's obstacles and tricks, but it's rather hard to do well using only your platforming instincts. That's why I like SA2 and Sonic Rush (and the classic games)- you can pretty much just play the game using your platforming skill rather than your decision making. That, and the framerate in Generations really sucks for many of the levels, being dizzyfying and making it harder to see shit on screen as you plan the jump ahead.

The Sonic Team of Japan and SEGA usually admit that when a Sonic game is bad, it's bad. Sonic 06's story is retconned within the game itself, that's how bad they thought it was. And Sonic Team felt it was necessary to apologize for Sonic Boom despite being vocally against it towards Sega.

If the game sucks entirely, it's the entire team's fault. If the game sucks but the soundtrack is amazing, then the composers and song players/writers are not at fault. Again, Sonic 06 does this well. MAybe too well.

I've noticed something in Sonic's fanbase. Suddenly people HATE colors and generations for no fucking reason. Sonic Adventure will remain as my top favorite Sonic even though I'm aware of its problems, but Sonic Generations is still what I consider the best or perfect game, few flaws, little to no hiccups, and my personal favorite thing, it brings the best of both classic and modern Sonic.
The weirdest thing is though, people are now hating Sonic Adventure 2 (even though I've always hated it) and now Sonic HEROES of all things is the cool one now. This fanbase is fucked up sometimes.
And I don't mean the part of the fan base about inflation OCs I mean the people who actually play the games and listen to the music.

It's not hate. It's dislike because they are very flawed games. Even so, both games are generally well received, especially Generations.

It does not bring the best of classic Sonic. Classic Sonic's gameplay is very butchered and watered down compared to his original counterpart. The physics are wonky and half functional, the game relies heavily on automation, spindash is broken as fuck, level design is lazy, etc.
Modern Sonic, at least the boost formula, is very flawed, and I could go on about that for a while. Short version is that it's linear and lacks substance, and is a sum of small pieces that don't form a cohesive whole. The boost mechanic strips all value from the speed and environment. The level design is very railroaded and uninteresting.
As for Colors, see >>342347626 regarding wisps. Level design is blocky, writing is cringey garbage, and it carries the aforementioned issues with boost formula.
