You don't. It's only related because the director for EO also did 7th dragon. The similarities are the character creation and the dragons, which are the game's FOEs. The game itself is more like a standard JRPG like Dragon Quest instead of like EO. Except about 90% of the world is covered in damage tiles that you have to get rid of by killing dragons. I liked it, but it's a tedious game so it's not for everyone. The sequels cut down on the tedium, but the art design changed for the worse in my opinion.

Am I crazy for wanting a management EO spin-off where you are a guild leader and manage a ton of the adventurers, send them off to missions, gear them appropriately by distributing gold, and gradually unlocking floors?
Since you can indirectly control multiple parties you could have the mystery dungeon thing where some points will be raided and you leave some adventurers defending.
Or you can set grinding cycles like literal bots in MMOs so you can farm materials with a specific grinding party.

No it's more about team composition and getting skills that synergize well. Leveling up doesn't affect stats as much as you might think, most of your stats come from equipment. So feel free to grind on trash mobs all you like. It's just gonna take you 3 hours to get a few extra skill points.

The one I pick from the outlined trio will depend on what the full skillsets of the classes will be.
I'd like to go hound, but it depends on the potency of it and the Cestus's bind and non-bind setups. If the Cestus is a better binder/it's non-bind route is trash, then I'll go for the Shaman.
But if the Shaman overlaps too much with the Herbalist in terms of support (i.e., the Herbalist turns out to have buffs of its own), or if my party is lacking elemental damage, then it'll be the Warlock instead.
I'm also debating swapping out the Necromancer for a Reaper.

Classic mode's easier because you can build your team from the ground up. Story mode restricts your classes due to the character's stats not adjusting with the class switch. Story mode depends on using the main character for damage, but he doesn't even gain access to his essential damage dealing skill until the 3rd stratum because of plot reasons.

It's even more of a classic JRPG in terms of combat mechanics than BD, and isn't really innovative. But the main attraction is dungeon crawling. You have to explore a huge labyrinth in first person AND draw a map of it in the process to not get lost/fucked by the roaming boss enemies/traps etc. All dungeon floors are big handcrafted labyrinths, as opposed to rather linear dungeons in Default.
Also EO contains approximately 97% less story. If that's a factor for you.

Well, the dungeons aren't randomly generated, which is good, but it doesn't exactly add any points to the replayability. What does though is custom party composition or challenge runs, which you can try.
I don't think the game really needs replayability that much, because it has pretty intense post-game to deal with. Which I have to admit I never really delved into. But all in all it adds up to 100+ hours on a single playthrough.
But given the quite brutal difficulty this series is known for, I highly doubt there's an easy way to grind in it, since even regular random encounters could pose a mortal danger. Definitely nowhere near as easy as BD.

By "it" I was referring to the random encounters which are usually easy enough that I could just proceed. However, boss fights typically are much much more difficult so a loss of 5 levels makes the fight even harder than it otherwise would have been,

I've only played through one and a half EO games, so I guess I'm still a newcomer. This game introduced me to a JRPG mechanic I was previously unfamiliar with - attacks that only proc after some other attack. It's as good as any, I guess, but doesn't this series seem to be focused on this single type of attacks too much?

I'm having trouble deciding which offense classes I should be bringing along. Masurao brutalizing everything with a million sword slashes speaks to me, but the usual chase skills with Fencers are always good too. Then again I could get out of my comfort zone and use the ailment/bind-dependent ones more with Cestus and/or Reaper, I've used those surprisingly rarely. I'm not sure what Warlocks can do but if they have anything like the fist wizard skill tree branch Alchemists got in 2 Untold then I'm going to have reserve one frontline slot for that too.

I'm playing eo4 right now. Literally blasted straight through the 4th stratum, even the FOEs were a joke.
I wonder if my guild hit a big power spike at 40 due to the extra skills or if they just really fucked up the difficulty curve for this part of the game.
The only other EO I've played so far has been EOU, and that game had MASSIVE difficulty spikes in comparison.
