I'm hosting a game night for my co workers in a few weeks, and i kinda wanted to have a few tv's going so there would be some variation as to what guests could do. the main tv is an HDTV that'll have shit like smash and mario kart set up for. wanted an old crt hooked up for people to play light gun games in the other room like time crisis on ps2.

Watching TV over a year on a CRT is = to eating 44 bananas (bananas are 1 rad)

You would get 1000% more radiation going for a trip in a plane due to the lack of atmosphere not shielding you from the radiation up there. Tube TVs were lines with lead inside the tube for this exact reason, so they don't leak any radiation.

If you have any console before the 360/ps3 this TV is the best way to play those consoles because they do analog signals which takes time to convert to digital on newer tvs, not only that on newer tvs the image is upscaled which looks like ass and introduced input lag.

My family bought an pretty big CRT TV (pic semi related. couldn't find exact model) when I was younger. I still use it to play pre-6th gen games, as the display looks A LOT better than with any HDTV and you don't have to deal with some annoying lag.

The main downside of these TVs is that they weight a shitton and take a lot of space.

>>
Light gun games like Time Crisis and Point Blank and Area 51.

Games on old consoles look as they were meant to

Graphics look WAY better via component than via upscaling in HD (seriously, ever see a PS2 game on an HDTV, looks ass)

Grew up doing it, so feels right to me.

Better color representation

I still have my Sega CDX and SNES and I will play them on my CRT for as long as I can. So much better.

They were the same resolution as tube televisions, mostly 480i or if you were lucky and had one that could do 480p. So, basically you just had a very blurry, rather dim, television that rarely aged well. They were that awkward in-between step between CRTs and LCDs and were worse than both.

There were some DLP HD televisions but, again, blurrier as projection and had horrible glowing issues. They died out for good reason. They were shit.

Hey whats the device that emulates a crt on your new tv? It adds scan lines and such i believe. Anyone know what its called?
>>
>>342296925
Upscaler? framemeister is a good one but really expensive

Old consoles, emulators, VHS tapes. /thread

I know this is probably bait, but the mere possibility that there is someone out there who believes this makes my blood boil.
>>
>>342296341
>taking this seriously

You're the only retard here.
>>
>>342296341
Why the fuck does everyone keep saying this. The crack isn't ON the screen for crying out loud. I mean, if I put my finger ON the screen it doesn't just appear in the screenshot. The crack is IN the screen. Deep in the glass therefore it shows up when I take a screenshot as they capture everything in the screen.
>>
>>342297302
Only retards ever replay to me.
That makes you the retard.

What difference do component cables do for a ps2 compared to regular A/V cables?
>>
>>342281867
You're playing red, real niggas play blue
>>
>>342297756
I think they'll do 480p and there's less color banding.

Someone can you tell me the model of that Sony hospital monitor that was supposed to be good for SD gaming on old consoles?

True black.
>>
>>342280985
Input lag, although guitar hero is pretty much dead the rise of HDTVs made playing rhythm games pretty much horrible.
>>
>>342298262
Why
>>
>>342281759
Well that's when all the best shit happened you fucking idiot.
It's not going to get better, I promise.
>>
>>342298484
Look at the very first two words of the post you just replied to.
>>
>>342298484
Because the sound and button prompts would come up up at different times. Later games had better calibration options but the early ones were pretty much fucked.
>>
>>342295095
480i, 480p is for HD CRTs which were released in the 2000s or you own a multiformat PVM or other photo/video production monitor
>>
>>342298753
I play can play gh on my HDTV i dont see the difference
>>
>>342280985
Sony Trinitrons were built like fucking brick shithouses. The parts inside of them you WILL NEVER SEE used again. Sturdy as a goddamn rock
>>
>>342298820
You can also play PS3 games in 1080i on an HD CRT.
>>
>>342280985

Retro games or older game consoles. Newer games anticipate the input delay, but older games do not and the difference in timing can break an experience.

Component supports 480p, although not a lot of games support it and it actually washes out the colours a bit. S-Video and RGB are best for 240p and 480i games.
>>
>>342299138
Wrong. Component has better colors than S-Video and is equal to RGB.
>>
>>342299261
Wrong, for some reason the PS2 washes out component video's colours. Video for proof.

Holy shit I envy retrofags so much

It's just that I live in europe and retrogaming just isn't that easy over here compared to US/Canada.

PAL sucks too

>not being born to experience the rise of vidya

You're missing out.

For me there wasn't much made before I was born, some arcade games and Atari 2600. Atari 2600 just didn't make as much of a splash as the NES later did most of its games were worse quality arcade ports.

But the NES generation of console games were worth playing, and the SNES, and starting in the early 90's, PC games.

actually, I've always wondered PC gaming prior to Wolf 3D is like a dark age to me, I know almost nothing about it except text based games on BBS's. When people list their greatest games of all time shit there's always some NES games, and maybe some early arcade games, and PC games starting with Doom or Quake but I never see anything pre 1990 coming from PC on any lists.

cheap
doesn't have shitty capacitors that cause them to die within 3 years like modern tvs do
need tvs for system linking xboxs
>>
>>342280985
I still use a cruddy panasonic tube tv to play xbox and genesis. Thing's brightness is low even when at max so Halo 2 is hard af because I need to keep turning on the flashlight. Hence why I love High Charity, with the infinite flashlight.
>>
>>342300056
Yes, the PS2 has a dull component output.
>>
>>342291829
Cool. Good to see they're enjoy the money not just sitting on it till they die a lonely miserable life.
>>
>>342300908
>I let people use my house as a garbage dump
If I'm not playing retro games then a CRT is just a waste of space since anything else looks like shit on them.
>>
>>342300056
PS2 component is actually fucked up so it's no surprise.
PS2 RGB beats it out.

Is a CRT necessary to play PS2 games?
>>
Long story short, if you don't own a CRT, you either:
>don't play older video games (which means you're probably a casual shitter)
or
>are not redpilled on how beneficial CRTs are for older games
>>
>>342303048
no
>>
>>342301841
They're saving it for the grandkids
>>
>>342303048
Technically no but its much better than using a hdtv
>>
>>342303186
why's that?
>>
>>342303048
No, but they'll look better.
>inb4 component cables and HDTV
Nah, it still looks washed out as fuck. Also, scanlines are sexy.
>>
>>342303048

No, you'd be better off playing on an emulator at a high resolution.

Dunno about PS3, but I had to use a 360 with a CRT and it was fine. I could even read small text while playing Oblivion. I'm sure some games would be squished, though.

>>342303547
What's stopping you from going to some thrift store or craigslist and getting a cheap CRT?
>>
>>342295057
so why did you ask for a screenshot then? Should've asked for a photo
>>
>>342303335
Because non hd content has to be upscaled and de-interlaced which makes the image quality drop considerably and adds input lag
>>
>>342303335

the upscaling stretches and it looks horrible.
>>
>>342303547

A new video card would be cheaper than a nice CRT.
>>
>>342304465
Where do you live where CRTs are more expensive than a new video card?
