A teleporter nearby a capture point is infinitely more useful on defense than a Mercy who's able to revive one or two people every ultimate. Teleporter has six uses and charges insanely fast. Her six sentries can be used to lock out rooms, slow down pushes, and generally help kill people on the capture point. Not only that, but an aggressive Symettra is great at picking off straggling enemies and she can even 1v1 certain tanks with ease. Plus her secondary fire acts as good area denial and can go through Reinhardt's shields to deal some decent damage

On Hanamura A, I place all six around the upper opening to the right of gate.
Provided your team is holding the gate well, Genjis, Pharahs, Reapers, etc. trying to squeeze though that tight opening get completely shutdown.
Stand on the platform near it spamming balls at the gate, and you can work towards a tele pretty quickly.

Symmetra is ridiculously good on Hanamura B, the teleporter loses some use but the area has some really good points to put down sentries.
Symetra is one of the best offense supports. Just played russian map on offense. constantly slapping down teleporters closer and closer, eventually I put one right in that little box, 3 feet from the enemy spawn. Got 5 people through it, just watching enemies run past totally missing it as my allies pour out to cap. Throw sentries all over the point as I run past it just to piss them off and distract them. Popping people instantly by full charging, walking almost into them and firing and then mopping up the last few points with the laser.
Symetra kicks fucking ass, just start slapping teleporters down and tell your team to push no matter what because dying doesn't matter anymore.

Teleporters aren't even that handicapped. For one, you can use the teles for flanking if done well. Setting a tele somewhere the enemy team doesn't expect will let your team slip behind them and take them from both sides if they're smart. Not only does she provide quicker access to bases through teleport and regen through sheilds, the turrets also act as similarly to surveillance, provided your Symmetra can relay with the team. You will know where the enemy will be if you secure target areas, allowing you to act sooner rather than later.

Yeah, you've gone against shitty Syms. A good sym won't be out in the open. Meaning you're fighting her in a tiny ass area where dodging isn't very easy. If you're about to get the drop on someone, charge an alt fire for a quick 125 damage then follow up with her tether primary fire. Her Primary Fire can do more damage than people expect thanks to its consistent damage due to the tether, and the scaling, which ups to 120 DPS after a bit of sustained fire. The tether also lets her jump around the enemy more easily without having to aim making her a bit harder to hit if it isn't a Roadhog/Reinhardt.
in choke points it pierces though reinhardt's shield and enemies so careless people can easily take damage.

Heres two scenarios that happens when Winston attacks.
A. Winston jumps to the door to avoid ball spam. He then drops a shield to destroy the sentries in peace. Meanwhile, Sym should already have a shot charged up to hit him in the back. Either way, he starts off the fight damaged.
B. He doesn't, but he runs to the door. Maybe he avoids the balls. Maybe he doesn't. Hes still garenteed at least one hit to the face. If he doesn't pop his shield immediately, hes being hit by each of the turrets before he can pop them. Minor damage, but still damage sustained. If hes good, he'll hop and grab the medkit in the same room/close by. If not, he'll try fighting the Sym.
Either way, Sym is given enough time to start having her damage increased using her M1, or charging another ball with M2.
If the med kit isn't used, Sym can easily nab it while fighting the Winston, and she will survive the encounter with a little bit of HP to spare.
Is this just one of the situations where the only people that play her are half decent at the game anyway?

Depends on the map, but typically? Set at least 4 turrets in a flanking route out of sight. Preferably above door frames and such. Use your charge shot effectively, but spamming the full charge is acceptable. It pierces shields, so feel free to take pot shots at Reins and people behind his shield.
Her primary charges up the longer you're damaging someone, so if you can get behind people when they're distracted you can melt their faces. Also jump a lot and try to get over/behind them when possible.
You can also put down sentries as kind of early warnings if you spread them out, but they will often be found and destroyed very quickly. Only really good for letting your team know when someone is trying to sneak in.
Lastly, know where medkits are. You can often trap the areas to get kills off of people who are low and need them. Often flanking routes have medkits there anyways.
