The game world still has to be consistent. Armour is worn for protection. It has to cover you to protect you. It works by keeping a durable material between you and the weapon. Huge gaps in the armour does not protect you.
This makes the armour design inconsistent. If it's worthwhile to wear heavy plate armour on your arms and legs why aren't you wearing it on the more vulnerable torso? Is the person's internal organs in their arms and legs? They apparently need armour to protect their arms but not their guts?

That has nothing to do with knights. Sometimes women would help defend besieged towns if the town was desperately trying to hold off the enemy. The women were not knights, they wouldn't have knightly armour, they wouldn't have armour designed for them, fitted for them and they wouldn't fight as a professional soldier.

Nothing is only useful for any one thing.
Clothing has a use in covering the body out of modesty. Animal fur will do that. So will sheet metal.
Wire is used in fastening armour to padding, and in a stretch you could say that chainmail is made out of thick wire.
Wire has applications in brassiers.
Thin(usually) plates of bone or metal have been used similarly to maintain rigidity in an aspect of clothing.
Armouring something can affect it a number of ways, vambraces and greaves can be significant protection against weapons, impact your agility very little as they don't require padding or fastening to the point that it will muddy your joint movement. Weight is the only issue. Assuming you can handle the weight without tiring or slowing down, as you probably wouldn't ONLY wear such pieces if that were not the case: Having an otherwise bare body isn't too far-fetched when you could protect the unarmoured parts of your body with blocks and parries.
Bikini armour is very silly, yes. But it's not completely ludicrous, just mostly.

The historical appeal of a man is a strong, dominant, stalwart protector who will take care of you financially (or the equivalent in pre-finance societies, e.g. gathering food) and keep you safe. The historical appeal of a woman is their appearance, social behaviour, and sex who will take care of you and your family in all senses but financial (or the equivalent in pre-finance societies, e.g. preparing food and clothing).
This is pretty much the case in most civilized countries on Earth until the last 60 years or so. I'm not saying women are inferior to men, it's just that this is the way succesful societies have always functioned.
