I did not back the game, but I did watch the video on Youtube where he supposedly said that. He did not. It was the translator stating it himself. Inafune simply said if they have time to add more content and expand upon it, they will. The translator also said backers are just 'salty'.

I unfortunately backed this game, which makes it one of only 2 horrible fuck ups I've backedthe other being Homestuck, and considering how many projects I've supported, that's not so bad percentage-wise, I guess.
I don't even want to play it though. I have absolutely no motivation to download it and try it out. It's been looking like ass for so long and now it's getting absolutely panned. With Inafune's ringing endorsement of essentially "it's a game", I can't see any reason why I should play it.
I'm embarrassed that I paid 20 bucks for it though. I never even played the demo. Should I play it just because I own it? I don't want to.

I guess, how I see it, I've played all the games translated into English and anyone with any interest can very easily by getting an emu and making a quick trip to Starmen.net. I would consider myself abused only if Nintendo was on an active crusade to destroy the fan translations and the NoC M1 translation.

The only excuses I ever heard were about the extensive censorship/localization that was supposedly in the NoC cartridge version we found, because Nintendo was a much smaller corporate entity at the time and worried not so much about offending anyone, but about getting sued for shit. Inafune's favorite Mega Man series is Legends since it's the one he had the most involvement in and didn't get out of his hands (because it wasn't popular and nobody cared about it). He makes sure Volnutt gets into various crossovers for a time until Capcom finally gives in and allows him to make Legends 3. He holds a waifu contest to try and get people interested and it works and convinces people that they wanted MML3 all along even though they never did. But he also wants Capcom to follow his vision (be like western devs and make western-style games and western-style business practices), Capcom doesn't agree seemingly so he quits and MML3 is almost immediately cancelled since he's the only one who wanted it.
He gets pissy so he decides to take advantage of fan anger at Capcom for their lack of Mega Man stuff and decides to make his own Not-Mega Man with people who worked on Mega Man 1 (i.e. the shit one) and the Zero games. The entire thing is a fiasco, constantly delayed for no reason, etc. However during this time he's able to secure deals for Mighty No. 9 cartoons and shit while running a kickstarter for another game. This kickstarter fails but it doesn't matter because he immediately gets funding from Chinese investors making it look like he had that funding the entire time. After even more delays MN9 comes out and it's complete garbage making it look like Inafune is a greedy Nip-Jew banking on the anger of Mega Man fans to line his pockets.
