So I realise I might be late with this but I just started playing Subnautica and holy shit this game is scary. What the fuck I want to play this game but I am constantly shitting my pants?
Also deepsea thread I guess, those are always fun.
Seriously

I don't think this one is in the game yet but goddamnit.

>>342260790
goddamnit. How do people manage to play this game? Should I just get drunk and try again or something. Night time creeps me the fuck out.
>>342260790
They already have. Much bigger than a reaper.
>>342259874
You have no idea son. I have a severe fear of the sea since childhood. It took me more than 30 minutes to work up the courage to make that first jump into the ocean (in fucking daylight).
>>342259874
Yeah it's pretty fun. I wish my computer wasn't so shitty, so that I could properly enjoy it. Seeing streamers play it at 60fps compared to the crazy stuttering and shit I get on medium setting really upsets me.
How do so many of you have a fear of the ocean? It's just a video game you pile of babies.
>>342262296
Thats weird, Im using a GTX 670 and its running pretty well.
Are they almost done making this shit? I promised myself I'd never buy another early access game
so what do you do with these creatures? capture them? kill them?
the ocean is scary sometimes
>>342262348
it's not irrational, the oceans are a scary place, probably the most hostile place on earth, and that is just the surface.
going deep, well we don't know what the fuck is down there
>>342262668
Some can be eaten, some drop valuables resources, some guards areas and will attack you if you bother them to much.
Some will gobble you and your ship in one bite if they sneak up on you.

Looks so peaceful
>>342262930
RIP brave fool
>>342262949
There are some species still not discovered I believe?
>>342263828
There's no way to possibly know that
But yeah duh there are definitely thousands of undiscovered species.
It's a long way down
Played this game for a bit, quite fun. The only issue I had with it, is that there were too many aggressive creatures in the game.
The game would work much better if you were lulled into a false sense of security as you were looking for resources, with hostile creature attacks more rare and sudden/unexpected. I spend a lot of time juking around sandsharks as I scan fragments since they're everywhere.
>>342265839
This is my complaint, too. The sandsharks and bonesharks especially are way too numerous in certain areas, though that does reflect real life. But one you get the stasis rifle or repulsion gun you can deal with them more easily.

>>342266196
For the moment, for story purposes, the Sea Emperor is going to be the largest creature in the game. Who knows what crazy mega-beasts they'll put in later, though.
For reference, the Cyclops submarine and the Reaper Leviathan are 149 feet long.

Any idea if they're close to finished? Early access is usually cancer
>>342262348
Out in the middle of an unexplored nowhere with no sign of civilization or direction to go in any direction around you. You're completely isolated. There are millions of living organisms beneath you but you can't see anything and you don't know how many of them are hostile.
How are you NOT scared of the ocean. We're not talking just playing in the shallow tide at the beach, which even that can be scary with whirlpools, huge waves and lately sharks coming closer inland.
We're talking Sortie en Mer ocean terror.

>>342267095
August is their target launch date for 1.0
>>342267095
wouldn't say close, this seems like one of those games to do that is being constantly developed, like early minecraft and Ark, performance isn't great but supposedly they're removing the terraforming in the net patch as the game checks each section for terrain modification as it loads, so it kind of chuggers quite regularly if you're moving quick.
Gameplay wise it's pretty fun, they're constantly adding new gadgets and such and the game drip feeds just enough information for you to get in but you never feel like you're being guided anywhere... Unless you get a beacon that guides you somewhere on the map.
>>342265838
STOPSTOPSTOPSTOPSTOPSTOPSTOP
>>342266990
They're retooling it since they're removing terraforming, but the Rock Puncher is one crab-like creature they intend to put in. Won't be until after it launches, though.
>>342266990
There actually is a crab if you look in the blood kelp biome
>>342267819
>>342267958
>removing terraforming
So instead of optimizing the game, they're just stripping features?
>>342268209
Just a rumour I heard, to be fair I don't really bother with terraforming myself, I can live without it.
>>342259874
Yeah, I'm going to wait afew more updates before I dive in to the game again.
>>342268209
Terraforming was causing too many problems, plus they don't want people doing things like digging down into the lower areas or out of the map. And it's only one thing they've removed, calm down.
>>342268209
they're LITERALLY removing it TO optimize the game, kys
Damn it /v/ this game gets me hype as fuck, lets hope it doesn't turn into a blunder.
>>342268581
>kys

>>342268707

How the FUCK do you sustain/explore if you have a base at 400m?
I built my first base at shallows and slowly built a second base at some 400m point. Exploring is ALWAYS cut short by oxygen loss though. I barely get 3 minutes to walk aruound before I have to start walking back to my base for air The fuck do I have to do to be able to breath and explore? I have like 5 high capacity oxygen tanks and the ultra fins and it still isn't enough to just go out and do whatever. It's gotten to the point where I just explore until I drown then on the next trip I pick stuff up and walk back to save my inventory.
>>342269140
Build the Seamoth you faggot.
>>342269245
I only have 3/5 parts for it. What depth do you find its parts at? I kind of just swim around willy nilly.
>>342269140
Seamoth and Cyclops with depth upgrades. You'll need a bioreactor or thermal reactor for power at that depth.
>>342269140
Sustain:
Get the bioreactor, the pots and grow plants.
I really hope the devs work on this guy and put him in. He'd be at home on the Dunes and Mountains areas.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SFtfPOCQwiY
>>342269359
You're trying to tell me you dive 400 meters deep regularly enough to build a base here with only your slow as fuck fans and never, ever thought about building a sub?
Fragments aren't deep, check by the red plateaux or the kelp forests, I think I recall a few of them here. In general if you find a fragment in a biome you'll find the rest nearby or at similar depth.
While you're at it go take a look around for the Moonpool and the Thermal Reactor. In general whenever you see a peice of tech you don't already own scan that shit.
>>342262930
just had a little panic attack from this. thanks
Allright I got my knife. radiation suit, flippers, some food and two oxygyen tanks (one in my inventory and one on the actual character). Now what the fuck do I do? Exploring is difficult because I keep running out of air.
>>342269140
build the rebreather helmet, makes your oxygen last longer
>>342259874
The trick is to build a sea base so large it takes up the entire ocean. Then there's no room for anything big and scary to live in it.
>>342270563
Upgrade your air tanks, then you'll have around 135 seconds of air.
Make a rebreather helmet, but you'll have to wait until you fix the Aurora's engines and the radiation goes away to use it.
Build a Seaglide for faster long-range movement.
Build a Seamoth.
Build a Cyclops.
>>342270720
They're going to implement a mechanic where you base can come under attack by various creatures, especially if you've built a large base or a base close to where they dwell. At the same time they'll be putting in a base defense system you'll need to find and build and maintain.
>>342270930
you dont have to, just do not swim close to the aurora, and you never will need the radiation suit. it was actually one of the last things ive built
>>342270930
How do I upgrade my tanks?
>>342271260
Plenty of good stuff near or in the Aurora mate.
>>342271260
You'll have to fix the Aurora when they put in the story stuff, and they'll likely make it so that if you don't everything will become irradiated.
>Yfw real sealabs exist
>>342270930
>is afraid of a little bit of radiation
>>342261262
Since I'm a pansy and wanna play horror games, I get hammered, turn on the game and the fear is somewhat gone.
It's just I'm so drunk I don't know what I'm doing.
Come back from exploring a deep cave with a sliver of oxygen left and see this.
>>342271339
Find the parts to the Modification Station, it will let you upgrade your tanks, fins, and knife.
Fins: Go Faster version and Recharge Equipment version
Tanks: Lighter version and More Air version
Knife: Heated version and Diamond version
Personally I go with Faster fins, More Air tanks, and Heated knife.
>>342270930
I just go with the radiation suit at all times, too lazy remember how far radiation goes.
>>342271627
>You call that deep

>>342271646
Shit Im still only on the starter base, I bet I cant install the modification thingy in there? Should I aim to build the big submarine first or is it better to build a base first?
>>342271627
Welp. It's his sub now.
>>342271403
nothing you need from the get go.
i had a self sustaining base at 600 meters with bio reactors, thermal reactors, nuclear reactors, moonpool , scanner room and tons of decoration clutter, plus a hanging fruit garden before i considered a radiation suit to get the upgrade module you can find inside the aurora
>>342259874
Thalassophobia, op. I have it too. Don't Google it. The images that come up are some terrifying shit.
>>342271841
Base first. Then put solar panels everywhere enarby until you find the thermal reactor blueprint and find a good place to put it for infinite power.
Then build the moonpool, then the seamoth. Then go build whatever you want.
>>342271646
i never understood what makes the tanks lighter, they still need as many inventory slots as high cap tanks
pressure thread?
>>342271841
Best bet is to build a smaller base 100m or so down as you collect fragments for the other stuff. Seaglide then Seamoth are the best two first builds, the extra speed and range of exploration they grant you are worth it over saving up for the big submarine right off the bat.
>>342272052
NEVER EVER
>>342272052
SOMA was closer to Pressure in theme and tone than Subnautica. But I do feel like if someone modded Subnautica they could make pressure. It already has the modular habitat pieces needed to make randomized levels, and a flooding mechanic.
Why is Subnautica one of the only good survival games out there?
>>342271841
You'll have to build a base since you can't really put anything into the escape pod, but it doesn't need to be big. You'll need solar panels for some power and a fabricator and enough room for a few things like lockers and the mod station. Fortunately a lot of the pieces you need to scan are in the Safe Shallows and Kelp Forest so it shouldn't be hard to find them.
>>342272039
Each air tank in your inventory slows your movement speed a little bit. Lighter air tanks don't decrease your movement speed as much.
>tfw you will never be a professional aquanaut
>>342271804
There's also experimental releases where you can spawn newer content but it'll be buggier.
>>342272039
Weight effects speed.
>>342272279
orly?
i never realized this since when you start without tanks, and when you finaly have them, you also have fins, which kinda negates the speed you loose . and then you upgrade to ultra glides, and hi cap tanks... i dont really see the point of the light tanks. they should also reduce the inventory slots they need
>>342272206
It has a well crafted world, runs well enough whilst looking great and controls nicely. Most survival games fall down on one or all of the above.

Oh hey look it's white Aziz Ansari
>>342272548
kek, he does look just like him
>>342272548
damn dude spot on
The game is terrifying at first, but here's some things to think about;
You're safe in that starting zone. The "Safe Shallows", the HUGE sea critters never spawn there. Worst you have to worry about is drowning and crashes, the exploding assholes. They respond to movement, so if you hear gurgling, stop moving.
Of the "big scary" variety, there's only one in the game right now, the Reaper Leviathan, and they only spawnaround the ship, particularly the engines in the back, and in the dunes area, which is a dead sandy biome. Not the one with the red grass, that's the grassy plains. You'll know when they're around, they like to roar pretty much constantly. They're not at all sneaky.
Most of the small carnivores are pretty easy to avoid. Get a seamoth and they're a nonissue unless you're scavenging for materials around them.
Oh and if you're on the surface of the water, don't look down. Looking down and seeing pretty much nothing but dark is the scariest part of the whole game for me.
>>342272501
Tanks don't need inventory slots anymore, they're equiped like the suit.
>>342272821
>they only spawnaround the ship, particularly the engines in the back, and in the dunes area, which is a dead sandy biome
It's not nice to lie, anon.
Just a reminder that, while the Inactive Lava Zone and the Lava Castle are the fixed encounter locations for it, the Sea Dragon Leviathan can also spawn in the large open areas and the Void.
Happy exploring.
will they ever implement weaponry or multiplayer?
my favorite aspect of 'build shit and survive' games is the eventual mid/lategame portion where you go full Judge Dredd on everything

I've been salty about subnautica the past few months because I lost my save.
My first playthrough I really liked the game and played almost 10 hours straight before it crashed. I then quickly learned that Subnautica doesn't have auto-saving despite auto-"saving" your character every time you return to your base.
I'm reinstalling now though...
>>342273731
No.
Their official stance on it is that they have no plans to do multiplayer right now. It's on permanent "maybe one day" status. until otherwise stated.

Hello there
>>342274204
Being a saturation diver for the oil and gas industry is what will let you be out in the open ocean the most often. It also pays very well but you have to stop after 5-10 years or health problems begin to accumulate. After that you have to choose something else to do with your life but you'll have a shitload of money to do that with if you saved it up and didn't live outside your means while diving.
>>342273503
Install two water purifiers for infinite water and salt
Build a tank in your base and fill it with the same specie of tiny fish, they'll reproduce and you'll have an endless supply.
You can also grow fruit from seed you get in the island but they're not as nourishing as a cooked fish + purified water and takes up more space, but it's good to have a few tree in the cyclops and the base.
>>342274453
What kind of health problems are we talking about here? This is all very interesting btw
>pop-in out the ass
>Fans suddenly go into overdrive
>>342274591
osteoporosis and glaucoma mostly, a side effect of spending too much time living in a pressurized nitrogen rich atmosphere.
>>342273927
Yeah the "auto save" just secures your inventory, doesn't actually save.
It's still in development though so you can pretty much expect big updates to break saves, if that ruins it for you then you should probably wait for the full release.
>>342274007
Like I said they know about the demand since people ask all the time but their stance is to prioritize getting a completed game experience/story out first.
My guess is they'll add it as an expansion/update as long as the game doesn't bomb.
>>342272497
I bet it smells awful
>>342274745
Just reveal yourself for the dev you are, friend.
The reaper is kinda bad honestly
If your not in a seamoth, he insta-kills you, if you are in a sea moth he two-shots you and if your in a cyclops i guess you two just sorta stare at each other for a bit
He's less scary and more annoying
Also this thing when
>Tfw there will never exist a real undersea colony you could go live in
>>342274740
>pressurized nitrogen rich atmosphere
You mean kind of like Earth's atmosphere?
>>342274526
More important question:
Is there any way to destroy materials because my base filled up with salt last time I made water purifiers.
Witness the comfiness of Conshelf 3 (this really got built)
>>342268378
same, release is scheduled for august so i can wait a month or two. this game was not bad for an early access game though
>>342269140
>i did not know that your oxygen is used up faster the deeper you go if you do not have the re-breather equipped
You have to pay a pretty hefty price to have the armored helmet equiped.
>>342275021
Yeah but way more nitrogen and at a higher pressure. Oxygen is reduced and displaced with extra nitrogen in order to increase the depth you can dive to without Oxygen toxicity kicking in.
>>342274843

Nah just like the game. Found it way earlier and its been fun to watch how much its developed.
They've kinda slowed on keeping the development trello up-to-date though I think they're working heavily on the story now for final release which they don't wanna spoil too much even though everyone knows the general outline.

I think they mentioned that they're gonna add an incinerator to destroy stuff and produce a little energy.
Where the fuck did my crash pod go? I had left some gear in it a while back and when I when back to the original spot I marked with a beacon it's just...gone. I've swam over 5000 meters from the original beacon I dropped by it to where its icon is displaying and I STILL havent reached it
I don't REALLY need what was inside of it but where the fuck did it go? Its symbol is seemingly off the goddam map.
>>342275291
Exploring wrecks can be pretty panic-inducing if you don't watch your oxygen and way back out.
>>342275684
It drifts.
For some reason it starts to REALLY drift after a couple of hours.
>>342275556
Yeah, we CAN adapt to really exotic conditions but there is a high price to be paid eventually. That's why the trend these days is towards mini subs and diving exoskeletons that keep pressure out instead of adapting you to it. Pic related.
I hate to say it but probably before these enter widespread use, humanoid ROVs will be good enough that we stop sending human divers altogether.
>>342271040

>>342275993
If I was a billionaire I'd waterproof a small plane and convert it into a submarine, then I will just dive slowly around area where plungers dive, staring blankly at them through the window as I act like everything's normal.
Does that make sense?
Subnautica is pretty much the only game for past decade or so that legitimately gave me chills and made me force-quit the game once.
Built a base at around 200ft depth near where you start and everything was fine until I learned that just a few yards away there's a continental shelf with such a sheer steepness that I cannot look towards the dark abyss because of how fuck-huge and steep the drop-off is.
Sends fucking chills down my spine.
Pic related, but replace that crappy slope in the picture with a 90 degree angle slope and you pretty much can picture what I have to deal everytime I play the game.
>>342275663
I think they're adding in the option to have a female character but you're some kind of a non-descript light-brown future ethnicity.
>>342275836
I think that's a bug, I usually get minimal drift and can just push it back the little it moves tho desu you should move to floating storage and a base as soon as you can.
I hate this game because I hate the sea. I want to play it so bad, but when I was a kid I was swimming with my folks not far off the coast of key west and a fucking tiger shark swam around me for like three whole minutes. Fuck me it looks cozy as shit though.

What you've seen are renders of resorts that are planned but never built. The only actual, existing underwater "hotel" is the Jules. www.jul.com
Hydropolis, Poseidon and many others never got built, people just assume they did. There are a couple small, shallow (15ft) one room spas, restaurants and stuff like that though

since when? the only fish I can spawn are the ones I farm in the habitat tanks
Here's one of the little restaurants. It's so shallow you could stand on the roof and your head would be out of the water.

The Reaper Leviathan has three main areas it can be found in: the Crash Site, the Dunes, and the Mountains. If you want to explore and build a base on the Mountain Island you'll have to contend with one Reaper that patrols the deep-water perimeter.
>>342278056
I'm not terribly surprised, the novelty can only last so long before you're just paying an exorbitant price for a tiny space. If you want to be surrounded with sealife then those wall-aquariums would probably be more bang for your buck.

It's funny that you say that because one of the creators of that BSG reboot, Ronald Moore, wrote a few episodes of SeaQuest back in the day. And the guy who created SeaQuest went on to do my favorite show of all time, Farscape.
The only nation actually building a proper sea lab is China:
http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2016-06-07/china-pushes-plan-for-oceanic-space-station-in-south-china-sea
9,800 feet deep, houses 12 initially, expanded later to support 33 people, nuclear powered, all for the alleged purpose of deep sea mining but located conveniently in the contested south China sea near Chinese naval infrastructure

That's cheap. Other proposed resorts were going to charge $15,000 for 2 nights. Jules is expensive but within reach for a middle class family.
This game looks cool but is there actually anything to do in it?
I don't want to fall into this trap again of "sandbox" games like Space Engineers or Hunter Primal where there are no goals and you run out of shit to do in like an hour.
>>342279651

>yfw the dev of this game is a gun grabbing libcuck
>>342279884
There is story being added in now, actually. It's just far from complete. You can find rusted broken down old sea habitats from survivors before you and read their logs.
>>342279771
>>342279884
There will be a story mode, you'll discover why your ship crashed, why only you survived, and that there were previous maroonees on the planet and something's happened to them. You'll also have to get help from the largest creature in the game to put a stop to something dangerous happening deep beneath the sea.
>>342279650
>That's cheap.

You didn't fully read the rates. It's $600 for a full day and night. You can split that up to 6 ways. So if you and 5 friends go, it's $100 for each of you.
The high cost for a short visit is to discourage lookey lous.

Why the fuck are there so few games in this genre in the first place? There's like 9,342,841 space games and 12 underwater games. Scifi ones I mean.
>>342279884
Not at the moment - The only goal you should have is to collect all the "fragments" to let you build everything. Different fragments are in different biomes, which makes exploring necessary.
In my game I just completed the large submarine. My next goal is a super deep self-sufficient undersea base. After that, I'll shelve the game until more content comes out.
>>342280303
>then only an autistic fuckwit would give a shit
>wheredoyouthinkyouare.jpg
>>342280380
There's a lot of things to collect, build, and upgrade, and many places to explore. You'll also be able to screw around with the DNA of many of the creatures and inject DNA into either other creatures to change their behavoir or into yourself to get permanent(?) buffs like withstanding pressure, more efficient oxygen consumption, faster swimming, etc. It's also set up so that you'll need to find and build better equipment to go deeper and deeper or into more hazardous areas, so you can't just swim down to 2000 meters right at the start.
>>342280321
well, I guess that´s better then.
Not like I´ll see this place anyway (German) but their website doesn´t really make it hard to assume that it´s a rip off.
>>342280638
Cool. My goal has been to construct a map-spanning grid network of tiny, single module sea bases the sole purpose of which are to store and charge power cells for the Cyclops. Like gas stations that let me go anywhere without worrying about "fuel".
>>342280884
If you're in Germany, this is what you should go visit instead:
https://www.tropical-islands.de/en/tropical-world/
It's a manmade tropical island under a giant dome with heated air inside and a wave pool that simulates the coast
>>342280914
That sounds really cool, actually. Though it might not be feasible for areas that are deep unless they're close to a thermal spot.
>>342274979

>>342281108
That does look somewhat comfy, if only because there aren´t hundreds of fat tourists in those photos. Also from what I could gather from the website there don´t seem to be any under water rooms.
Currently Subnautica suffers from that classic EA problem games like Starbound do where every other update they completely change up crafting and progression so you need to start again and spend hours and hours rebuilding the most basic tools.
It also suffers from the other classic problem in that it runs like shit.
>>342281610
Because it's fucking cool as shit nigga
>>342280807
Well you could say the same things about Minecraft but we all know that there's really nothing to do in that game.
>you can mine deep into the earth to find rare ores to upgrade your equipment and find caverns to explore and fight all kinds of monsters and build new gadgets and contraptions!
In reality you realize there are no goals, there's no progression and the whole thing is a pointless waste of time.
>>342281791
It's also not finished yet.
>>342281862
Minecraft doesn't have a story. Subnautica does.
>>342281778
That is a shame. They went to the trouble of building the artificial ocean wave pool and didn't put anything like that in it. I think the NEMO pool meant for scuba divers is in Germany and has underwater viewing windows.

Some of us would never get tired of it. If you think about it the overal luxury would be better than most cities. What's outside in a city? Asphalt, concrete and hobos. In an underwater colony the interior is all premium habitat space, like what you see in a cruise ship.
So, how do you feel about the Sea Dragon Leviathan being able to breathe fire?
https://youtu.be/WZi43vToI3Q
>>342282026
Yes, it is an Early Access game. Which means it will and has spent years in nu-beta until the money dries up and they can't afford the feature creep any more.
I really want to get into this game but it's so poorly optimized and won't run on my toaster even on lowest settings.
>>342282026
>Minecraft doesn't have a story.

>>342282026
I want to be optimistic but the same has been true of every one of these games I've ever played, Minecraft, The Forest, Space Engineers, Hunter Primal, ARK, Rust, 7 Days to Die, Elite Dangerous, I know No Man's Skly will suffer from the same problem.
>>342282193
I did enjoy Minecraft, but not because of it's Minecraft elements, just because it was basically Legos. There was nothing about the gameplay that was engaging beyond building things.
>>342259874
Everytime this game is talked about people mention how fucking spook it is. Is it meant to be scary or do you all just have a fear of the sea?
>>342282864
Building exclusively underwater adds enough extra danger and difficulty to prolong the game's lifespan considerably. I also build sky cities for a while, that was fun but I fell to my death a lot.

>>342283051

>>342282974
It's not a horror game, but it does have all of the scary things the ocean does: lack of light as you go deeper, three dimensions for things that want to eat you, predatory beasts, and the simple fact that as a land-dwelling species humans are instinctively uneasy in water.

However, I got Subnautica about a year ago and have been really enjoying it, the underwater setting keeps it fresh and interesting.
This might just be because I've always loved water levels/settings, but idk.

>>342283841
If it was on Steam I would buy it, but the whole process of making an account and logging in and the way updates work and the fact it needs it's own launcher and shit, just too much of a headache. Every update would break all my trainers and tools too.
>>342283837
Yeah I guess I can always refund it. The only game that is kind of in this genre that I fully enjoyed was State of Decay, but of course that has a story campaign. Good game though, very satisfying.
>>342283616
I really, really wanted Fallout 4 to be that sandbox game that had both engaging gameplay and meaningful crafting/construction, but unfortunately about 200 hours in I realized that the settlement system was completely pointless and nothing I was doing actually mattered.
I built massive concrete forts around all my towns ringed with missile launchers and had gates guarded by sentries with fatboys, but at the end of the day they would still complain that some feral ghouls were bothering them or that a raider kidnapped someone.
The final straw was when I built a massive town and mansion on that island settlement location, took me maybe 40 hours, it was paradise by Fallout standards. Then I went around the world and sent all my favorite followers there, where they decided they would all like to clump together and stand in the rain in the empty land between the town and the mansion.
Uninstalled it and haven't touched it since. They're only in the right place in that screenshot because I put the bell there, eventually they all wander off to the middle of the field again...
>>342285161
Are there sea bases from before the war in the Fallout universe? That would make for a cool expansion. The dwellers inside could be ignorant of the fact that the war is over and people live on the surface now.
>>342285373
Underwater vaults would be a cool idea.
I really liked the seawalking aspect of F4, and there's at least one submarine.
I'm hoping that the bugged Reefbacks that spawn at five times their normal size become a normal thing in the game. They could be rare spawns in deep-water areas.

It costs a lot of money to keep a place like that running. At the time it was mostly a stunt, done so they could shoot a documentary about living underwater for 30 days. Afterwards they brought most of it up and scrapped it to sell off the metal but left the old hangar.
There's very little you can do in the ocean for a profit that absolutely requires a human presence on the bottom. Sea farming maybe, that's just now becoming widespread, so maybe these bases will make a comeback.

Technically it does since, because the dev is scared of guns and is a gun grabber, he won't put in any actual defensive weapons that, you know, an actual person in a hostile environment would get.
Instead we have to settle for shock fields, phase rifles and whirlpool torpedoes, though those are pretty cool I admit. But no actual weapons allowed.

That only happened in a couple of movies, most notably 1974's "Godzilla vs MechaGodzilla". The other movies he's just a huge mean mother who's stronger than anything else.
Can someone explain how powering bases works? Like how far away can I put solar panels? How do other powering methods work? How can I tell hour much power I have/need?
anyone tried to kill a reaper with gastropod torpedoes?
>>342297037
because he was a fucking JOBBER
YOU SEE THAT THIRD ARM DO ONE SWING AND THEN BOOM HES GONE
heard a rumor he got more screentime in the chinese version
Fuck it's tough waiting for august. Both this and Starbound are hitting 1.0 soon and I want to try them again. This I haven't played since november, Starbound I haven't played since heat and cold were in the game still a few years back.
I expect starbound to be kinda crappy, but it's always nice having a huge content update to dink around with since I haven't played either in ages.
>>342297664
You'll see a "power you have/maximum power" indicator when inside your base. Solar Panels, for maximum efficiency, need to be right on your base's roof. The Thermal Power needs to be next to a thermal spot like a lava pool, volcanic vent, or black smoker. The Nuclear Power Plant and Bio-reactor are inside your base. There are energy transfer devices that route power from far away sources to the base, but they're annoying to use.
>>342296832
Still one of my favorite movies ever.
>>342297649
At least the 2014 did away with that. Made him a character that can be really hurt. Made him neither humans ally nor its enemy, but just the motherfucker that keeps shit intact. I hope they keep that up because he was too OP before.
>>342298136
Same, I really like it still which kinda surprises me. Also helps that Michael J. Fox is always great.
>>342297778
I wasnt exactly shocked that the cheap chinese shit died first. But what really shocked me was that the fucking aussies had the best mech. Like what the fuck?
>>342279884
I heard that they the plot is going to be that aliens shot down your ship with some kind of weapon to crash your ship idk.

Oh god, I hope they pull an underwater city like in The Abyss. Just that it's evil motherfuckers instead.
>>342298363
Australia needs the best mech because they already deal with category 1 kaijus on a daily basis. Why else do you think they lost to the birds?

Godzilla's had an interesting life.
He started as an allegory to the atomic bomb, a literal force of nature who simply appeared and destroyed, and was stopped only by a more terrible force. He stayed that way for the next three movies, but starting with "Ghidorah the Three-Headed Monster" he morphed into a giant superhero protecting Earth from aliens and evil monsters.
Then when 1984 came they returned Godzilla to being a force of nature and from then until "Destoroyah" he stayed pretty much the same, on no one's side and only fighting what was a bigger threat.
Tri-Star turned him into a pregnant iguana.
The Millennium series went back and forth with his personality from indifferent destroyer to superhero to flat-out evil.
Legendary Godzilla is similar to Heisei Godzilla, indifferent to humanity and only fighting and destroying to defeat other threats.

Never watched because I heard nothing about it, and by hearing nothing I assumed it was terrible.
Plus, where the hell would you go with it?
I feel like I'm awful at this game, I don't think that's really possible but I feel like I am. Have like 20 hours and still don't have the fucking cyclops. I finally got the place where I can edit the seamoth and shit though.
Anyone else build their base right by the starting area? I feel too nervous building it really deep or far away.
I'm gonna be mad as fuck if the sea dragon and emperor don't fight reapers.
>>342298564
According to the wiki they are called the precursors and were able to bring down ships and imprison a sea emperor
>>342299402
Same here. Too easy to find food and shit in the starting area, not to mention unlimited energy in the life pod

How replayable is this game?
I was considering buying it before, but due to the map being handcrafted I didn't want to get bored of all the content before the cool stuff was implemented. Seems pretty far along now, so I'm considering jumping in.

>sharks
Stop propagating the myth that sharks are dangerous to humans. They're endangered because of this and asians thinking they have restorative powers
>>342282193
I remember when I admined on a minecraft server called OurTown, every time we would change the map or reboot (2 or 3 times), I'd end up building Atlantis, since we always had factions stuff for plot management.
Never got anyone to actually build there since you were limited to the space inside the glass sphere I made for you but still was cool as fuck.
I had to use admin tools to carve out an ocean deep enough that it was impossible to get to by sinking without drowning. There was ONE entrance besides the teleport sign in the spawn town, and it was a gigantic whirlpool that I took a week perfecting. The bottom of the whirlpool was JUST deep enough to reach and get inside the airlock right before dying from drowning. If you didn't jump in the exact center and follow the exact path down, you'd die.
Shit was great. I miss it, even though dealing with the idiots who play on minecraft servers can be annoying.

Unfortunately, that's the reality for the romanticized view of living in the ocean and surrounded by blue water and tons of marine life.
Most of that occurs within the first twenty feet of water, especially in tropical / coastal zones.
Otherwise, visibility drops fast once you dive deep, and life forms became more scarce and more difficult to spot.

>>342299337
It was decent, but I have a terrible taste in movies so it doesn't matter I guess.
Weird things were happening around the world so they assumed it was related to atlantis after hearing of a monster they thought was leviathan. They went to investigate and the plot was all over the place but its worth watching for the characters I guess.

The Tiger Plants? Stasis them and then cut them. You can also just go straight at them and slice. They leave behind seeds that you can plant, but the seedlings will still attack you.
