The physics aren't really that wonky. The whole PU shit doesn't have anything to do with physics, he's just underflowing/overflowing a position value, which is pretty small considering the RAM they were working with was measured in kilobytes. Modern games don't really have this problem because you can (memory wise) afford to assign important stuff like position huge chunks of memory, like a long long int, which has some absurd value limit well above the shorts that Mario 64 works with. The only major change is probably that modern game engines run faster update loops, and thus check the character's position much more quickly, though their method for determining collision and where the character is standing is pretty similar.

A good example you can try yourself is by hacking your speed in any open world game. Two Worlds 2 is decent for this since it has built in cheats. If you hack your speed to absurd values, then stuff in the distance won't have time to load before you get there, so it won't load the collision of the object either. Thus you can easily fall out of the world. It's the same principle, the game level is just massive. In theory if you could go fast enough, you'd encounter this PU behavior.

The final "A Press Count" of a run always rounds up to a whole number. You can't do a 0.5x A Press run of the game; it has to be one A Press, or zero A Presses. But an individual level/star can have "half" an A press if all you need to do is complete it while keeping the button held down from a prior A press.

It's just a shorthand he uses in individual star descriptions to explain how they fit into the total 27 (25?) A Press run of all 120 Stars.

Because it's not Mario. Spyro was good but not nearly as popular as Mario was on N64. The fact that the N64 library was so much smaller than the PSX's probably contributed to that, and also the fact that Mario was a well established franchise before and remained that way up to now. It does, in some ways.

For example, PS1 (and many PS2) games wouldn't load content unless the disc could be spun, but they'd retain existing content in memory until that time. You could open your PS1, take the disc out, and play.

I once exploited this in MMX8 in a hallway full of wave-spawning enemies to rack up a ludicrously high combo count by ejecting the disc, killing the enemies endlessly, then reinserting the disc to enable the game to load the next segment of the level and cease spawning.

The whole reason for calling it a half press is to put it in the context of the ENTIRE run, not just the single stage. Suppose that for 1-1 you need to press A at the end to reach the star but in 1-2 you only need to hold A down. You could clear two stars with a single A press.

Now you want to make a video of only the 1-2 star and put the number of A presses required in the title. 0.5 is just a simple way to do that and you've already explained it to your audience so nobody except some random Henry who doesn't know the context minds.

You should think of the playing field as having only two parts, part one is the door which you picked that has a 1/3 chance of being correct, and part two is the doors that you didn't that have a 2/3 chance of being correct.

Remember that the reveal is largely irrelevant because regardless of whether you picked right or wrong initially part 2 was always going to have one goat door.
In the end the question is if you think picking one or two doors is more likely to get you the car.

Current run seems to be 6 minutes. Upwarp won't help that category, though, unless it's damn near instantaneous to perform. 100% takes 1h40m, and upwarps could certainly help there if reproducable. Probably won't do anything too drastic, but I could see it shaving off a handful, maybe even a dozen minutes.
It very likely will remain in the realm of TAS, of course.
