So I've been playing fusion and I really don't like some design decisions.
The whole 6 areas split by elevators thing doesn't help the games design at all, it makes the whole exploring part feel way less organic and it doesn't flow as nicely. Especially cause instead of finding stuff and then figuring out how to use it all next you just go to the navigation room and get told it all in detail. I think this also made them a lot lazier with the cues on where to blast open areas as they have told you anyway so no real visual clue is needed. I'm also just not very found of the new suit

each zone is at first distinctly separated with its own threats when as everything starts to become more fucked up and you learn more about the federation's projects the zones begin to connect to each other

I disagree with zero mission being a 10.
Half the upgrades require shinesparking, which isn't explained to the player at all. If you haven't played Super Metroid or Fusion, you'd have no frame of reference. And many of them aren't typical shinesparks, they require serious understanding of the capabilities and limits of the maneuver. It got to where I would groan whenever I would bomb an area and see YET ANOTHER golden arrow block.
Playing the game as a minimalist isn't any less frustrating, especially on Hard. Having no health and shit damage due to lack of missiles requires perfect play. One fuck up and you're toast.
All of this while trying to go fast and get better endings. What an unpleasant, stressful experience.

All of those are fine because they get regular releases.
Metroid does not. There's usually a short to long break between it's games, and since Nintendo usually doesn't take risks with Metroid, it doesn't do spin-offs.

Not them, but honestly, WayForward, while not a bad dev, has yet to really grasp the essence of what a Metroid-style open world game is. The games always feel simultaneously too easy and more than a little padded out.
A lot of devs make the mistake - and Nintendo is guilty of this too - of thinking that making a Metroid open-world type game is just have abilities act as keys to get to new areas. Getting new abilities in Metroid is supposed to essentially change how you play the game entirely, not just act as a block smasher or door opener.

I think the fact that Samus doesn't fit into her suit is hilarious, if only because people think it's somehow a bad design. Back when it was supposed to be just power-armor, there is an old Nintendo illustration of how she fits inside. These days? I'm going with the idea that physics don't work the same within the suit as outside, due to bird-tech, as evidenced by the morph-ball.
All that said, what the hell does it matter? Metroid is generally in limbo and forever will be, because Nintendo has no place for a stonk woman space marine in a rather serious and compelling sci-fi setting. They just want to churn out more Mario and Zelda game. I'm guessing the reasoning here, but I suppose it might be a "technology" thing, in-universe. The mechs are an attempt to emulate Samus's suit. While they can match for firepower, they can't match it to size, so a mech is necessary to be as powerful as the Varia Suit.
From there, enemies being about the size of the mech make sense to they are at eye-level. When you're out of the mech, they're large relative to you so you can be sure to see them as enemies on the 3DS screen. It also helps to make them more imposing if they tower over you.

I actually figured out the Shinespark largely by accident. My finger slipped and hit down and I was walking around like normal, but glowing. I knew it wasn't some accident so I kept doing whatever until I figured out what the trigger was, then I figured out what I could do with it bit by bit as I found secrets that I couldn't do with my current knowledge of shinespark.
It got to the point where on subsequent replays, I actually discovered sequence breaking entirely by accident, by using a morph ball shinespark into high speed rolling into a very early game super missile. Also the fact that you could use infinite bomb jumps to get to certain things like the ice beam or varia suit very early opened up a lot of stuff.
I really feel that this is how sequence breaking and secret finding should be done. Almost none of the actual game proper required advanced knowledge of shinesparking. You could go through the beginning to final boss just fine without it. Learning tricks the game never teaches you, but you must discover on your own to reach secrets or sequence break, I think this is the optimum design technique.

Other M barely had any support, it lost everything and the hype when people tried out the game. when Sakamoto was recording data on Other M's reception among japanese players, he said they all prefer playing Super Metroid than playing Other M.

i recommend people just picking up a WiiU and buy Prime Hunters and Prime Trilogy on Wii/DS VC instead of FF.
