MMZ series is great. I found that the games got harder as the series progressed, but I've also heard people say that 1 was the most difficult for them when it was the easiest for me. I played 1 so much that I can still remember how to cheese cycle just about every boss, where as in 3 I struggled with most of them. Comparing MMZ to MN9? Miles better, this is like comparing a Thanksgiving dinner to a flaming bag of shit.

DS collection is a must-have for the DS, in my opinion. If you like other MM games, definitely get it.

MMZ is far superior to Mighty No. 9, no question.
Z1 has some weird shit though like the level ups and mission system. The other Zero games are better.

MMZ was the natural evolution from the X series, after the X series ran itself into the dirt. It's an improvement in almost all aspects. MMZ2 and 3 are better though.
