would you rather watch a movie chosen for you, or choose what movie to watch?

you're right, literally all Western RPGs have dialogue wheels. They're all really good too, which is why everyone praises them.

I fucking hate how dumbed-down everything's getting, it's depressing.
>>
>>342219287
I choose what movie (game) to watch (play) when I browse the store, not in game.
>>
Doesn't HR show you the full line before you make a pick?
>>
>>342219339
It's the current trend. Of course classic WRPGs don't have dialogue wheel.

>>342219394
Yes. DXHR is a good example in how to do dialogue wheel right.
>>
>>342219394
yes, and there usually are more or less than 4 options to choose from, they just made you navigate it in this retarded ui.
>>
>>342219129

Dialogue wheels are fine. It's the better method when you have a voice-acted PC. Whether PCs SHOULD have VAs is a different issue.

It also loses all its charm.

I like how some dialogue in HR is treated like a boss fight.

You know who's to blame here, /v/.

its pure cancer. not saying it cant work but, the devs are just lazy with it.

Is Alpha Protocol the only game where the dialog wheel worked really well?
>>
>>342220028
Yeah, but only because each option could be wildly different and the vast majority of actual choices have impacts on gameplay, both immediate and non-immediate.

Barely anything you say in Fallout 4 dialog wheels affects what happens next

Never played it. How's the wheel in Alpha Protocol?
>>
>>342220510
Alpha Protocol is pretty short and very divergent as to how events play out. A major point is how it's possible to kill literally every character.
>>
>>342220510
It's pretty much just like any other wheel. But your choices matter and actually change things, and there is pretty much always a timer that goes down and forces you to select something without overthinking things. You know, like in real life.

Like it's not just a dialog like >>342219339 hidden inside a wheel where your choices just changes the next line and nothing else.
>>
>>342220580
>>342220672
I see. That's nice.
>>
>>342220510
My only problem with the wheel there is that the timer gives you very little time, and I find it hard to listen to the dialogue, read the options, and pick one at the same time. It was one of those rare times when I was reminded that being a non-native speaker is kind of a bitch.

Deus Ex: HR did it fine too.
